St Tysilio’s Church
Church Island is situated in the Menai Strait and can be reached by crossing a small causeway from Belgian Promenade. One of the most interesting things about St Tysilio’s is how little is known about how it came to be or why. St Tysilio was a sixth century Welsh saint who was widely believed to have established a church on the island, however no record or evidence of this has ever been found.
The church that stands today dates back to the 15th century, but it is not known who built it. The church is small and has no electrical supply, however, it still holds services and weddings.
At the highest point of Church Island is a memorial for the local men who served and died during the World Wars. From here magnificent views can be seen of the Menai Strait and the two bridges.
