  • "This cottage is a gem!"

The views from the garden and bedrooms are spectacular. The location is perfect in that it gives you tranquility without feeling too isolated. It is also well placed to access the quieter parts of Skye. Excellent standard of cleanliness throughout on arrival. The large and secure garden is a godsend if you have children and/or dogs and also perfect to appreciate the views whilst enjoying a glass of wine. The property comes with everything you'd need, kitchen well equipped, fast WIFI for streaming TV shows, powerful shower, decent sized bedrooms and ample storage. The welcome pack of wine and biscuits was very kind. Tide permitting there is a quiet beach about 10 mins walk from the property. The village of Broadford is easily accessible for any supplies you may need. The price of the cottage offered exceptional value for money considering this is on Skye. Being able to book this property many many months in advance is helpful given the popularity of Skye. The information offered by Doug in the welcome via email was also appreciated.

Thanks for this very kind and comprehensive review! Property Owner

A very comfortable house, great secure garden for our dog, with everything you need to self cater. Tea room close by, as well as great ideas on what to do. The only negative is Sykes website bombards you with daily pings that are unwanted.

Doug even thoughtfully sent ahead copies of the most recent newspapers, so we were in the loop with current events on the island. Doug was happy to assist with queries and was an attentive host, whilst allowing for our privacy. The cottage is conveniently placed - while also in such a beautiful, peaceful setting. It is clean and has everything you could possibly need, with treats left for all (including our dog!) on our first evening! Highly recommend. Thank you for a 5 star stay.

  • "Stunning quiet location overlooking the mountains, nice clean cosy property."

Log fire was great with temps below -7 on a few nights. Even saw a couple ice skating on the nearby loch!!. Property was very clean on arrival, welcome pack superb, bottle of wine too! Don't agree with previous comments re. shower curtain, it looked brand new and what's wrong with a shower curtain, hardly can be described as unhygienic! Only improvement I could think of would be a dishwasher but just being fussy! Overall fantastic property, great communication by owner, would not hesitate to return.

Thanks for your kind feedback. In an ideal world we would love to add a dishwasher, but this would involve a rejig of the whole kitchen to make space, which we can't really stretch to at the moment. Hope it is a bit warmer next time you visit! Property Owner

The weather while we were there was unbelievable pure sun shine 5 out of the 7 days ! Couldn't ask for anything more perfect than a glass of wine my husband with his liqueur sat in the Beautiful garden watching the sun go down behind the mountains...we both agreed that is the definition of perfection!! Everything you need for a comfortable stay. Lovely big fluffy towels! Comfy sofas and great size TV! Comfy bed loved your pillows to the point I'm going to order one for myself!! The bathroom was lovely my only niggle about the bathroom was the shower curtain we would of preferred a screen as just think it's more hygienic. Kitchen was well equipped with plenty of pots and pans if you wanted to cook at home. Only thing I would say about the kitchen is the oven needs a scrub before use but that didnt bother us as we ate out. We loved our stay and we would definitely go back! Thanks again

  • "We had a great week touring around Skye and the cottage is situated in a great position to reach all points of interest , and in a most beautiful setting in Torrin with the convenience of getting to Broadford for supplies."

The welcome pack including an Easter chocolate gift was much appreciated. The owner and caretaker were responsive when I contacted them at the end of my stay. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need for self catering. The heating is good so it is always warm with lots of hot water available. The listing is accurate about the stairs , I slipped down them on last couple of steps wearing socks - bring soled slippers ! Bag of kindling supplied only so buy logs if you want a decent fire. The WiFi is good and we were able to access Netflix etc on TV. The main bedroom double bed mattress is too soft / used, we ended up in the 2 single beds and our son was in the double! Bed linen clean, small bath towels , bath mat with bleach marks for hand towel in bathroom, no rubber mat so need to be careful accessing shower (not the most hygienic so hand rail on wall as another guest mentioned, would be useful). The cottage looks like it is partially upgraded with some new carpets / flooring in dining area with other areas like the kitchen units // flooring looking tired and bit grubby. The oven is dirty. Many of the surfaces were dusty and behind pieces of furniture / skirting need a good clean. (We dropped something behind a bedside chest and had to pull it out) The owner advised that there is some leakage/ roof work being undertaken , that will hopefully solve the musty smell / dampness particularly in the main bedroom / dining room fireplace along with a deep clean.

  • "Doug is very prompt at responding and very good at establishing contact."

The cottage was very spacious with a very relaxing lounge. However, the oven was dirty and had not been cleaned in quite a while. As a result, a stale smell emitted from the oven upon use. The lampshade over the dining table was thick with dust. The hoover had not been emptied in a very long time as it was full of dust, dirt and hairs. Unfortunately, a shower curtain was in place instead of a, more hygenic, glass shower screen. The shower curtain was also well worn and not as clean as it could be. I would suggest changing to a shower screen. Either that, at least, or ensuring either a cleaner shower curtain or that the shower curtain be replaced between each new booking. With a little more attention to cleanliness, I would rate the property much higher.

Dear Dawn, I am very sorry to hear your stay at the cottage fell short in the areas you have highlighted. We will of course be looking to address the points you have raised. Thanks for letting us know. Property Owner

The dogs loved the garden to run around in. Shame weather was not good, it rained all week. At least at the end of the day coming back from exploring Skye you came home to a warm cozy cottage to unwind in. Would definitely recommend to friends and family and will probably come to this cottage again for a holiday on the beautiful Isle of Skye.

  • "First visit to Skye and instantly captivated!"

Doug is a communicative and helpful host and the house is very lovely apart from the rather unpleasant and unsightly carpet stains in the living room which without even a nice rug over them to at least conceal are rather off-putting. However, as I saw Doug's response to a previous guest's review highlighting the same issue, that the flooring would be redone in December, I have rebooked the cottage for Easter 2023!

Sarah, we are delighted to have you back so soon. Skye does that to people. You are right the living room carpet has taken a hammering this year and looks terrible. It is scheduled to be changed before our next guests arrive for Christmas. Property Owner

  • "What a lovely little cottage and very easy to find."

My first major disaster? I was unable to get the telly working (not very tech savvy tbh). I e mailed the host and i swear to God he must have responded to it before i even sent it! Excellent service and great to have a telly where you didn’t need to get your binoculars out to see it! The garden is very secure. My dog is an escapologist but he didn’t suss it, so i could leave the back door open without worrying. Sad to see though, when i was patrolling the garden to collect his ‘presents’, that some owners hadnt bothered to do. Disgusting really. Anyhow, the cottage was very comfy with everything you could require in the kitchen and the bedding and towels were lovely. The bed itself was a tad too soft for me but nothing that a couple of tablets in the morning couldn’t sort out. Lots of info to peruse, walking books and so on. The welcome pack too was a nice thought. I was a little disappointed to see there were no grab rails in the shower which necessitated me taking baths instead, and also an old fashioned shower curtain. i find them to be annoying as they tend to cling to you and i feel are unhygienic. Having said that as i didn’t use the shower i avoided the clinging curtain. Also i thought that some carpets were a bit dirty and needed a clean and the kitchen, although extremely functional, was a little dated and also not much work tops, although there was more than enough space to rectify this. Had i been with a family, i may have struggled at meal times, but as there was only me, i coped ok. All in all a very nice experience and if i were to go back would stay here. I certainly would recommend it to others. Thank you xx

Thanks for your detailed feedback, which we will be taking on board. We have new floorcoverings on order for downstairs and fitting is planned for December. Property Owner

We liked the nice touches such as having maps of the area in the house and some goodies on our arrival- even dog treats (just a shame we haven't got a dog!). We agree with other reviewers that the photos on the website don't do it justice. I was very wary of the kitchen as there were no pictures of any equipment but there is a full size fridge freezer, lots of cupboard space, washing machine and a great cooker so no need to have worried. Also the dining table is full size whereas the picture on the website only shows it at half size. This is actually a really nice room just off the kitchen. The lap trays provided were also a nice touch, We would certainly stay here again.

Plenty of storage space - under beds, hanging space in cupboards upstairs and hooks galore. Love the little torches provided too. The television has FreeSat so plenty channels. The garden is great - really big so great for kids to play in and totally enclosed so perfect for dogs. There are sheep roaming around so dogs would have to be kept on leads when walking anywhere from the house. Can't fault the cottage at all.

Kitchen was well equipped but could do with dish washer which would also reduce water usage. A compost bin would be useful for food waste and would be environmentally friendly . The bed mattress in master bedroom too soft and chest of draws would be useful in main bedroom. Upstairs of house could be better ventilated and in smaller room their was smell of mildew. I’ve been visiting the village my whole life, and used to stay in a family friends’ traditional Croft. This brought back many memories of that building, it’s got some lovely old features to the building, but has been sympathetically updated. The plot is great, having fantastic views to the Cuillins, ample parking and great space for the dog to run around. We found the facilities spot on, absolutely nothing to grumble about, and a logo for thought had obviously been given to what would be needed whilst staying there. The instruction pack was one of the best I’ve ever received for a holiday property, too. We’ll definitely be back some time.
