  • "We had a great weekend."

The place really suited our annual siblings weekend get together (party of 12). Large, good kitchen, good areas to eat and to socialise together. Grounds were particularly interesting. But I wouldn’t rush to recommend to others due to the bathroom issue on the main corridor 4 bedrooms (8 people) and only 2 shared bathrooms (and only 1 shower). We managed Ok, but it wouldn’t suit most visitors. Met Nick? who was friendly and helpful. Other small points: - high level of cleanliness in general - nice to find the biscuits, tea, coffee etc in the kitchen on arrival - we appreciated that you’ve tried hard with the Wi-Fi access - heating / hot water system was excellent - towels were a bit disappointing (especially for my sisters!) - the grass area available to guest (outside the main door) wasn’t very attractive/enticing to use - have you done all that is possible to deal with the fly issue in the kitchen? - dealing with Sykes over the EV charger was tortuous - I have fed that beck to them already I hope this feedback is helpful. But the main thing is that we had a very happy and memorable weekend. Many thanks and best wishes with the ongoing renovations.

  • "The Generals Quarters surpassed our expectations."

beyond measure! We booked it for our son's 30th birthday, but what a fabulous location for a celebration of any kind. In fact there is also an orangery, in the grounds, which would be perfect for weddings with the Generals Quarters for accommodation! I was slightly nervous that there were steps to the entrance, as my 88 year old mother was travelling with us. The owner kindly put my mind at rest and I'm so glad that we went ahead and booked! My mother loved the place so much, we regularly found her whizzing up the stairs. alone (which are easy and have a good hand rail) so she could explore the surrounding premises! We were lucky to meet up with Nick who was restoring another wing of the house. He really brought the place to life so much, answered our endless questions and showed us lots of interesting features we would otherwise have missed. The panelled dining room was fabulous for our celebration and we appreciated the huge basket of logs for the beautiful fireplace fire too. With two staircases and such a wide choice of bedrooms and lounges and the pool room, we had a lot of fun just getting lost in the glory of it all for the first few hours! The kitchen is well equipped - we'd pre-prepared our food for ease, but it has a double oven cooker and lots of crockery, cutlery, glassware The grounds are fabulous and the photos of the outdoor area which is part of the Generals Quarters really don't do justice to how lovely this space is. In the wider grounds, the treehouse is just so quaint and rather incredible to think that Queen Victoria watched a hunt from here when she was a young princess! Recommended without hesitation and we are just looking for an excuse to go back!

The house is huge, the rooms are spacious and the grounds are beautiful. Some of the fittings and trim are a little worse for wear but that doesn't take away from the grandeur. There was tons of room and ample equipment to cook for a party of 10 in the kitchen. We also made great use of the BBQ and log fire. The internet was a little spotty so I don't think we could have worked from here, but for our needs it was totally fine. Can't recommend highly enough for celebrations and we felt like this was incredible value.

The house is beautiful, and had plenty of room to accommodate all 14 of us and 2 dogs. We had plenty of room to sit together for meals and games, but also enough space for each of us to find a quiet spot when wanted. Also, the outside courtyard was great for the kids to run around and play. The kitchen is big and a very cheery room, we found ourselves naturally congregating there quite often. It had everything in it that we needed. Each of the bedrooms were spacious, warm and comfortable. The grounds around the house are beautiful, and there is a lot to explore. James and Rowena were really friendly and it was great to have a tour of the main house and to hear more about its history and the restoration work. Nick was also super helpful and gave us a great tour of the attics. The grounds were lovely too, some info about where we could/couldn’t walk would have been really useful - perhaps a map of the footpaths and places of interest? as it was muddy would be useful to have a hose near the house to wash off the dogs! The General’s Quarters is so historic which made our stay very interesting, exploring the property and land. The rooms are grand and kept spotlessly clean and warm. We had intended on eating in the kitchen as it is plenty big enough, however, we moved to the dinning room as the log fire was burning away and so inviting. There was 9 of us, plus our dogs and we all had sufficient space to be together but have our own privacy. The property is unique and we enjoyed exploring our wing and the grounds. The kitchen was extremely well equipped for catering for 12 with excellent bathroom facilities and quirky bedrooms that suites all the different people in our group. We enjoyed the games available with guests playing chess and had the perfect setting for our murder mystery evening - Murder at the Manor! The intermittent wifi was actually a positive for us, having teenagers in the party they participated more in activities(!) We found the bell great for early morning wake up and dinner call (apologies to any neighbours). Tracey was very helpful and was able to get mugs, tea towels and booklets about the house to me to purchase very last minute which enabled us to give gifts to members of our party. Please can you provide guests with a map of the area and possible walking routes that they can take with them? It was definitely a weekend of making memories in a wonderful, historic and unique setting. Thank you very much - The Stone, Sturgess and Thomas party.

From the first view of the house as you travel its long lime drive, the age and scale of the place takes your breath. We were there as a family group to celebrate Mum-in-law’s 92nd birthday, ages from 92 to 8, and we all had a wonderful time. The huge rooms were warm and comfortable (quite an achievement in a house of that scale, I would think), the beds were deep and cosy, the kitchen was well-fitted for a large group, and the house had everything we needed. It’s not perfect, there is plenty of work still to do, but this didn’t detract from a wonderful experience. The grounds were peaceful and quiet, and we were lucky enough to meet the owner a few times. She was more than happy to tell us about the house and its journey back to life from dereliction, and her passion and love for her family home is very obvious . The little church in the grounds is beautiful and well worth a visit to see more of the house’s history. We all had such a good time and are planning a return visit next year! Comment not to be published, but as a possible improvement - full-sized non-slip shower mats for inside the shower would be very useful indeed!

Comfortable, warm and very well upgraded to modern convenience, for example lovely showers, yet still retaining so many interesting touches for such an old property. The owners have obviously listened to previous comments re towels, Wi-Fi etc as all were well provided. Wi-Fi was good throughout the property ( unfortunately the phone signal is not great in most of the location). It was very well equipped for the numbers (slightly small fridge?) with nice welcoming touches. The gardens provide fascinating exploration and everyone we spoke to was friendly and interesting. It was easy to get ‘lost’ and for all members to find their own space. (Just need to watch out for slamming fire doors). A very enjoyable stay for our family celebration. We would recommend it as an interesting place to stay with a group.

We have stayed in a few period properties but this one has to be our favourite so far. My only comment on this one and reflected in my score for accuracy of the listing is that the pictures online just don’t do the property justice. It is beautifully decorated and it was extremely warm. As soon as we opened the door we were greeted with a very cosy and homely feel. The kitchen has everything you need to be able to effortlessly cook for a large group and the fridge is a great size. The place was absolutely spotless and not a cobweb in sight in any corner as you may expect in a property of this age. We had permission to look around the grounds of the property which was equally fantastic. We plan to come back again in the future. This property is well worth the money!

We came as a group of friends to have an early Christmas gathering. We have a selection of babies and a couple of dogs, so we need somewhere with lovely walks, peaceful surroundings, and space for cooking, gathering, and games. The General's Quarters has this in abundance! Every bedroom has enough space for a couple, and there are lots of choices of rooms to spend time together, from the grand dining room to the cosy living rooms. Even though it is huge, and we've stayed in November/December time, it's always been lovely and warm. The water pressure is great, we've all said there's some of the best showers we've had here, and with 3 or 4 baths/showers you're not queuing for ages even with a big group. The kitchen is well equipped, we usually get a food delivery and then everything else we need is there. The main access is via an outdoor staircase, so be prepared to carry things up and down when you arrive. We absolutely love it here, and couldn't rate it highly enough. I just hope that some more of the rooms get renovated so we can carry on coming for years to come as our families grow!

History oozes from every beam and flagstone. The location is magical, you feel like you are in your own private world. 13 of us spanning from the ages of 2 to 95 stated here for my birthday. We had an incredible time. It is true that for the older members we had to be careful due to the 16 steps down to the house but the owners opened up a lower door for us. We had to carry my grandma up six steps in her wheelchair but she felt like it was the entrance of the Queen of Sheba so loved it. For such an old historic property it is incredibly well appointed and very clean. Of course there are issues with bits of restoration needed and the odd cobweb here and there but that is to be expected. It is an ongoing project in a Tudor house. The occasional power cuts in one side of the house could be seen as annoying, or you could just go to the fuse box and flip the switch and see it as an adventure. The internet is sketchy but fine in the sitting rooms and the big bedroom I stayed in upstairs (which was breathtaking) and you are having a break so maybe park those incessant Instagram flicking sessions for a while! The grounds are lovely. The treehouse is stunning and the orangery with peacocks was very peaceful. I cannot overstate how much I love this property. If you are looking for a pristine, sterile, modern, luxury box then go somewhere else, but if you have any kind of a soul and imagination then stay here. It was transformative for me for a week. A complete and utter joy from start to end. I cried when I left as I did not want to leave. Amazing.

Very poor value for money We are pleased to note that since our visit in July and feedback given, reference to the property being suitable for those with limited mobility has now been removed from the description. It is not at all suitable and sadly that was the main reason we had booked this property. Wifi was extremely limited - just one or two rooms adjacent to the owner's part of the property but not available in the rest of the accommodation. It is a shame that the owners/Sykes did not properly take on board the comments from the feedback given in May before our stay in July as that would have been most helpful to us. The price quoted by Sykes increased by £1,000 overnight whilst we were booking and despite our request for the original price quoted we had to pay the increased price for the booking. The accommodation was not particularly well appointed, especially considering the price we paid. The General's Quarter's are part of a very interesting and historic building but not as well equipped for the 14 people it can sleep as we had anticipated - e.g. one fridge freezer was a real struggle for all of us for a week. On the plus side the beds were comfortable.

It is more an experience than a holiday really. Amazing grounds, amazing location the house is understandably a bit tired after being there for 1000 years but is a great experience. It isn't totally clean but again that's understandable as there are a lot of spiders around! Overall it was great thank you a very memorable time was had by all.

  • "A very well kept and well provisioned location."

For our 60th birthday celebration it was perfect. Lovely location with walks all around and very peaceful. The kitchen and Dining room are large and ideal for a large family ( in our case 13 people). We had external caterers come in for the special night and it was no problem at all. The property is ouzing with character and is an outstanding example of a Tudor period Manor house. We would definitely go back.

  • "What an amazing place!"

We loved staying in this most unusual house and exploring its grounds. It really was a unique experience to stay in a 16th century half-timbered house with its quirky layout. Plenty of space to relax and comfortable beds! The kids amongst the party thoroughly enjoyed exploring the nooks and crannies, and were delighted to find a bell-pull in the back staircase - very useful to summon the family together for meals and so forth. By prior consent we were able to launch a kayak on the lake which added another dimension to our stay. We'd love to return some day.

  • "A very beautiful and quirky property."

The kitchen, bedrooms and dining hall are absolutely stunning and very well equipped. A perfect family getaway. The only negative and it’s a small thing is the WiFi or lack of it. The WiFi failed to reach a lot of the bedrooms or the lounge area making it difficult communicate with the outside world as there is no phone signal either. However I would recommend 21 century problems in a 16 century house. However, I would highly recommend this wonderful property and it’s beautiful grounds.

The recycling boxes were insufficient for our needs as we did all our own catering.

  • "Probably the best equipped kitchen we have seen."

Beautiful old house with lovely gardens - perfect for dogs. Fantastic dining room. Tracy was also very helpful. Thoroughly recommend this property to anyone who is planning a large family holiday (we had 9 in our party and we never felt crowded). The house also has a very interesting history.

  • "We arrived late evening, it was dark and raining, the steps down to the propeerty were more than I was expecting when carrying bags."

But when the fridge was loaded and the fire was lit in the wood panelled lounge/ dining room we sank into the comfy chairs with a glass of wine, things began to look a lot better. The bedrooms were very well decorated and comfortable. The next day we all went walking round the estate, the views of the Hall were amazing. The whole estate is stunning, and well worth a visit. We loved the quadrangle where the dogs could play without bothering anybody else and the need to put them on leads. If you are considering a visit read up on the History of Pitchford Hall it will be well worth it. Amazing.
