  • "The property was perfect for our needs, it was clean, well presented and had lovely views."

All in all we had a very enjoyable stay and would both highly recommend the property and use it again on any future trip to St Ives. The only minor issue was that the previous weeks occupants left their cars in the parking bays after their rental had finished, which meant our own arrival was more complicated than it need be and I feel this issue should be addressed in the rental instructions. Communication with the owners was fine, but with Sykes however it was very poor. Their website links and message service doesn't work, they communicate via no-reply emails and and if you need to speak to anyone you have no way of getting through once you have booked.

Thank you for your lovely feedback and we hope to welcome you back in the future. Although the check-out time is given in our guest information pack, we have more recently made a point of asking outgoing guests to vacate the house by 10am and to vacate the parking spaces immediately afterwards. However, on this occasion our request was unfortunately not complied with and we do apologise for the inconvenience caused by the previous guests. We are pleased that you found us as owners easy to communicate with, but we are sorry to hear of your experience with Sykes Holiday Cottages. We will raise this with concern with them. • "This a very large spacious holiday house, it is comfortable and well furnished."

We really loved sitting on the seats outside the front of the house with a cup of tea first thing in the morning. The outside courtyard was great for washing down our boards and wetsuits. The games room was a big success with young and old and the kitchen table comfortably seated all 10 of us. Porthminster Beach is the closest but the walk up is quite steep as you might expect if you know St Ives. The kitchen could be improved with the provision of oven gloves and some large roasting trays. Some of the cupboards in the kitchen could be emptied to allow you to put away your shopping. Too many seem to contain on odd assortment of dishes that someone needed to find a home for. A lock on the main bathroom door is needed. There was a lack of space for clothes storage in some of the bedrooms and a need for longer hanging space. Hooks on the walls would be a better arrangement than the stands presently in some bedrooms. The "Goody Bag" was very disappointing a triple pack of biscuits, tea bags and decaffeinated cappuccino coffee capsules some milk for a cup of tea after a long journey would have been appreciated. Clearer information regarding which containers to use for recycling is needed. We did ask Sykes Cottages for the type of coffee maker in the house but never received a reply. We would have expected all the necessary information about the house to be in a folder in the house but this came by email and was not seen immediately. We had a wonderful holiday and these comments are meant to be helpful for future guests. We would stay again.

We are so glad that you had a good holiday and enjoyed your time in Albany. We also love sitting out the front with a cup of tea and looking out to sea. Thank you for your very constructive feedback which we are happy to take on board in our endeavour to improve our future guests experience. We apologise for no milk being left in the fridge for you - the housekeeper was supposed to leave 2 pints for you in the fridge. Post COVID we have been advised that emailing our property instructions is more hygienic! We are glad that overall you enjoyed your holiday and we hope to welcome you back in the future. • "Beautiful property lovely location."

However this was let down by the lack of facilities. I found them to be poor. One teacloth for two weeks, no bathroom facilities or cleaning equipment , and the beds had the cheapest duvets . No welcome box on arrival. All details which make a holiday home exceptional. And I think for what we paid ?

Thank you for your review and we are so pleased that you liked the property and the location. You should have received our welcome pack of triple packs of Cornish biscuits, tea, coffee, sugar and fresh milk. If you did not receive these then we do apologise and we will take this up with our housekeeping team. We provide reusable hand soap dispensers in all bathrooms, the kitchen and utility room. We also provide starter packs of the standard cleaning products needed. The house is a self catering holiday property so we do not provide everything. We provide tea towels in the kitchen drawer. As you were staying for two weeks we offered you a free mid-week cleaning service that would have provided you with fresh tea towels and bath towels, but you declined the service offered. We have not had any other complaints about the quality of the duvets, but are happy to consider upgrading if necessary. Property Owner

Such a lovely well positioned home, fabulous views. Plenty of room for us all to spread out, have our own space, but also to be all together too. The adult children and grandchildren enjoyed the games room. Although I never like to cook on holiday, breakfast is as much as I like to do……, the kitchen was very well equipped. The owner Sue was very helpful with any questions that I had and came back to me very quickly. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you.

  • "This is a really beautiful house in a brilliant location."

It's very spacious, comfortable, attractively furnished, well equipped, all the appliances and the plumbing work well, and the sea views are stunning. It's only a 5-minute walk to the beach (down a fairly steep hill), or perhaps 10 minutes if you prefer a route with a more gentle gradient. It's only a short walk to the shops and town centre and the 3 parking spaces are so useful. We really loved the house and would very happily stay here again. The house is already wonderful as it is, but to make it even more comfortable for future guests, I've got a few minor suggestions. The family bathroom would benefit from a lock on the door - not all guests can be trusted to notice/respect signs! A few bedrooms only have Venetian blinds at the windows which don't keep out early morning light very effectively, so the addition of curtains would benefit light sleepers. I would have found oven gloves very useful, although I realise perhaps they aren't provided as it may be hard to keep them clean. An additional drying rack for washing would be useful for guests who prefer not to use a tumble dryer. There's plenty of kitchen equipment provided, but I didn't find any baking trays, and a big draining spoon for vegetables would have been handy. It would also have been a nice touch to find soap and dishwasher tablets provided in the kitchen. More importantly, the helpful email containing comprehensive guest information arrived on Saturday morning after we had already set off on our long journey to Cornwall, and I didn't find it until a couple of days into our holiday. It would be very helpful to send this email out a few days earlier, and additionally to provide a printed copy of the information in the house itself. The email attachment contained lots of useful information, but I struggled to read it on a tiny mobile phone screen. It would also be very helpful to have a sign on the kitchen wall with a clear explanation of the recycling, as there are multiple bins and coloured bags. I had to search the council's website for an explanation of which items went in which containers, not helped by the fact that there were some new food caddies by the bins which I believe were delivered for a recycling scheme that hasn't been introduced yet. I would also have welcomed instructions on what to do with the beds before departing - I wasn't sure whether to strip them or not. But please be assured that these suggestions are only intended to be helpful, and to make a wonderful house even more perfect than it already is!

Thank you so much for your lovely review and rating, and for your constructive feedback. We shall endeavour to implement your suggestions as soon as we are able. We would be very pleased to have you stay again. Property Owner

  • "This is a lovely, well equipped property with stunning views."

There were a few issues that took the gloss off for us initially, ranging from not being able to park in the 3 bays from 4pm, as the cleaners were still working and occupying them, to issues of poor maintenance. I reported the concerns to the owner at the outset of our holiday and I’m sure she will have sorted asap. I absolutely recommend the property but would point out 2 things that I don’t think were obvious from the description 1) there are some steep steps to the detached garden at the back, but these can be avoided as the front garden is fabulous, 2) the steps to the second floor are quite narrow and steep, so if you have elderly and/or young persons in your group, you will have to plan your accommodation well. However, there are 6 bedrooms and with a bit of shuffling we were able to find the best fit for us and had a very enjoyable multi-generational holiday in a great house in a great location.

Thank you for your constructive but positive review. Maintenance is always an ongoing issue with holiday homes but we always are very proactive in sorting issues which at times can be challenging during a busy season. But we take on board any constructive comments and try to improve our guests experience. Overall was nice location but too pricey for our disappointment. Have rented with sykes 4 times now so we were confident it would be upto scratch unfortunately it wasn't.

Thank you for your feedback. If this is your honest opinion of our property, we can only apologise for your experience. However, despite having telephone numbers and email addresses for both us and Sykes Holiday Cottages, you did not contact either of us at any time during your stay to raise these issues. Our previous six reviews rated cleanliness at 100%. We do understand that some guests have differing opinions and we are sorry that our house did not fully meet your expectations. Although we are happy to have dogs stay, we do not state that the gardens are dog proof. Property Owner

The house is beautiful and was spotlessly clean in all areas . It is well maintained and cared for . Everything worked well and easy to operate ie showers and heating , cooking facilities. There was so much space for us all, the house is huge and has lots of character. We were two families, Those who had the top floor were delighted with their rooms especially as they could escape and get some privacy . They felt they had their own apartment. They love reading so they used the top floor settee for a reading area. The beds were super comfy and large . All the bedrooms were spacious and beautifully furnished . The bunk room was a bit smaller but still ample space for the teenager. Lovely view from the 2nd floor front bedroom with two seats strategically placed so that we could sit in the huge window and relax . The kitchen was well equipped . It has two fridges and a freezer which was useful with a large group . Lovely comfortable furniture throughout the house. It felt very home from home and we could have gladly stayed another week . We really fell in love with the house . A short distance from the beach and shops . This was helpful as the older children were able to walk into town independently. I’m sure we came home much fitter due to the incline back to the house but even for two seniors it wasn’t a difficult walk and it was enhanced by the view. The weather was mixed but it didn’t spoil our enjoyment. The games room provided much entertainment for the children and teens . The neighbours were very friendly and helpful too . Last but not least, Sue , the owner was extremely friendly, welcoming , patient and helpful with all our enquiries and easily contactable. When we return to St. Ives we would definitely want to stay in this property .

Thank you so much for taking the time and for your consideration in leaving your review. We are delighted that you enjoyed the house and facilities. It gives us great pleasure to have guests appreciate our house almost as much as we do! We hope to welcome you back in the future with your family. • "The owner was very quick to rectify a fault with the cooker, even though it was a Sunday - so thank you very much."

We still found the cooker a pain, all the markings had been rubbed/cleaned off, so difficult to see when the oven or grill was on! Games room was a boon with a multi generational family. Bedrooms and ensuites wonderful a 5 minute walk to the beach was great with the dogs. The detatched back garden was not used, too inconvient with the dogs - one of them escaped through the cat flap too. We tended to let the dogs out in the shared front garden and made sure all the poo was picked up. bar b que had been put away for the winter, which was a shame. A big welcome basket of logs was appreciated too.

Thank you for your constructive feedback. We have recently become aware of the worn markings on the cooker having just visited Albany ourselves. Unfortunately we did not have time to sort a new unit, but the cooker will be replaced with a new one shortly. With the summer at an end and the weather deteriorating, we decided to put the barbecue away for the winter. We have found that most previous guests have not wanted to use it so late in the season. In future however, we will ask our guests if they require it left out. Garden space in St.Ives is quite rare, but we are aware that the rear garden could be made more accessible and plans are in place to improve this. Thank you for being considerate dog owners in the front garden and picking up the poo. The back gate with cat flap is going to be replaced before next spring, so that should deter the escapologists! We are glad that our other facilities met your expectations and that you particularly enjoyed the bedrooms, en-suites and the very popular games room. Update - a new cooker has been installed (December 2023). A new back gate has been fitted to the courtyard (November 2023), and the other gate into the rear garden has been removed altogether to make the garden more visible (February 2024). Neither the front or rear gardens are dog proof though. Property Owner

Having an en-suite bathroom for 5 out of the 6 bedrooms was brilliant and the bedrooms were all lovely with very comfortable beds. We all slept well. The games room was a hit with the younger and older guests! Beds are comfortable and linen and towels provided are all of great quality. No, it’s not an ideal spot for anyone with mobility issues, but we knew that before we arrived. The kitchen is really well stocked with everything needed to cook for a large number of guests. 3 parking spaces available were fine for our 3 large vehicles too. Only hiccup for us during our stay was to do with the dogs. Still puppies and over eager, one ventured through plants into a neighbours garden. The neighbour was less than impressed (we were profusely apologetic) but he was fairly rude. Lesson learnt and dogs only went in the front garden when on leads. A lovely house that I’m sure we would venture back to ( with older more obedient dogs !).

Could do with clearer instructions on how to leave the bedding and the contractors did not deal with clearing all the rubbish as had been advised. A few more games in the games room would also be helpful. Overall our family had a great time apart from the above relatively minor issues.

Thank you for leaving your review. We always like to know what we are doing well, but also what we can improve upon. As soon as you let me know about the refuse collection I chased the company and they did come the next day, but this was after you had checked out. I have asked our housekeeper to leave more precise instructions as to what to do with the bedding on the day of departure. In accordance with Covid guidelines, we removed all books and board games for hygiene issues. Maybe we should think about returning them to the games room again. The house is a traditional Victorian terraced town house and does have steps and different levels. We have tried to child proof where possible. Although we do have a stair gate to stop adventurous toddlers exploring the 2nd floor we have yet to find one that is fit for purpose on the 1st floor. This is something that I will rectify during the winter months as it may have to be bespoke due to the bannister configuration .It is not wheelchair friendly and maybe this is something we need to make clearer. Finally we are very glad to hear that you and your family had a great holiday. Property Owner

Lovely to have a wood burner. Owner was very responsive and helpful. One thing perhaps helpful for people to know is that it’s fairly steep down to beach and if you have more than three cars or big cars / then parking is tricky. !

Thank you for leaving your review. We feel that your comments about "cheap poor quality" bedding /furniture to be harsh and a little unfair. The bed suppliers are those used by hotels and recommended by Sykes. We are aware that it is important for people to have comfortable beds to sleep in and we are sorry that you did not find this to be the case. All pillows and duvets are manmade, as we have to be careful with allergies, and with Covid concerns it makes the bedding far more hygienic and easy to clean. The furniture came from many different shops. We have tried to blend new with old so that the house feels more of a home and less like a hotel. This maybe is not to everyone's taste perhaps. We are mindful of all reviews given and we are sorry that your expectations were not met on this occasion, but we will look again at the bedding and furniture and endeavour to improve where necessary.
