"We loved the boathouse at Greshornish, Sitting on the lounge with the log burner in use and large picture watching the wildlife (at dawn/dusk) through a large picture was a real joy for us."
The lounge is comfortably furnished and the kitchen has the basics required. We would recommend visitors come with the provisions needed for the stay as the nearest larger supermarket is 30-40 mins drive away on Portree. For us the boathouse provided us with a much needed quiet break from the pressures of daily life however we personally however it may not suit every visitor as it has no internet connectivity and is relatively remote (accessed via a single track road). We would book again to stay at the Boathouse if visiting the Isle of Skye again. Wd would recommend the Sunday lunch or a drink at the neighbouring Greshornish House Hotel (a family run house/hotel with a warm friendly welcome)

"First the positives, the location and position are lovely and the general comfort was great the heating very efficient for that odd cold day/evening."
The quiet and peacefulness of the location seconded to none. However as mentioned by other visitors there are a few things to note. The access road is extremely challenging with dodge the pot hole game, and beware sheep will leave droppings for the unwary very close to the entrance. A certain amount of general maintenance to the property inside and out could be improved, only very small things but does indicate future potential problems.
Other things like cutlery kitchen equipment have seen better days and need updating. A Welcome pack is a nice touch even if only a small bottle of milk we have been using Sykes for many years now and stayed in a substantial amount of properties, this is the first time nothing! However looking back through the older visitors books this used to be provided here. Ladies be aware bring a hair dryer we could not find one.
To finish I must say we did enjoy our stay and and the views and location excellent the lack of phone signal and wifi to us was not a problem and it does mean you have talk to each other

Wait on water to come thru faucets. No water pressure. So outdated. Towels were rough and hard. Furniture too low. Fold out couch mattress is terrible . Picture window is so low short people have a hard time looking out . The road to the boathouse is rough and has big potholes that could give you a flat tire , no gravel.

"Incredible 1 week stay at the boathouse - absolutely exceeded expectations!"
Located on a breathtaking lochside, surrounded by beautiful countryside and local wildlife. As if this wasn't enough, the boathouse itself is so cosy and warm with all the facilities you could need.
It honestly felt like a home from home, and was the perfect place to return to after a day exploring. We actually opted to stay in and cook for a few nights of our stay, followed by a drink by the fire overlooking the loch.
Although we attended as a couple, I can imagine coming here solo would be somewhat of a retreat. Already thinking about my next visit!

The view from the window overlooking the loch was captivating, and it was lovely to wake up to the sound of the cows, the sheep and the birds. The boathouse had everything we needed and more: the leaflets, maps and walking guides were extremely helpful and the washing machine was a god send. We would not hesitate to book again and will definitely recommend to family and friends. Thank you for allowing us to stay.

..its so lovely and peaceful...you can hear the cuckoo's in the surrounding trees...its such a great base from which to explore skye..
All you need is a good read and you can really relax...we took our paddle boards...but didn't use them as there's a boat yard next door, and the currents can be quite strong
There's a really nice hotel only a 2 minute walk away..the food and staff are amazing...even if you just want a cuppa!
The boat house itself has everything you might need...but there is very little mobile signal...I really didn't mind the lack of signal as I went with the sole intention of relaxing and enjoying skye
There is a picture view out of the main window that is so very captivating...absolutely fab
I would so book again when I need to relax and switch off from busy life

The property has a wonderful view. You can walk out from the property around the Grenhornish peninsula but it was a bit boggy in December when we visited. The property is very warm and cosy, with storage heaters and a log burner if needed. It is also well equipped for cooking. A great place for a get away break.

"There are a couple of small things which I think would make the cottage even nicer, it did feel a little unwelcoming with no “welcome basket”, even a little milk in the fridge would have been good, also on a wet & chilly evening, a fire laid & ready to light instead of having to clean it out would have been really nice."
Outside the front door a couple of live plants or flowers in the tubs would have made it all look much cheerier. My only small complaint is that the cutlery is not great - the knives bend & the handles of some fall off! I really enjoyed my stay here & managed 4 great walks.

The size and layout suited us just fine. We had our Kayaks and a RIB with us which we found easy to launch on the slip and anchored for the week just offshore. "To Sykes Cottages:
RE: 275EF23SA
My family was not able to utilize our planned (and paid) rental at Greshornish Boathouse (July 22-29) because of regrettable, unforeseen circumstances."
Sadly we could not make our trip (to attend the quadrennial Clan MacLeod Parliament in Dunvegan, Skye). We are disappointed that we never had the chance to see the Greshornish property.
In the days prior to our planned rental, having learned of the need to not leave the US, I sought to cancel and obtain any possible refund from Sykes. In turn, I communicated with the Greshornish property owner -- Ian -- and he informed me of his willingness to cancel and refund.
At his recommendation, I contacted Sykes and spoke to your representative and was told the matter would be considered. I was open to any full, partial, or negotiated refund.
However, I did not receive from Sykes the promised answer to my inquiry.
As an active MacLeod, I -- and my fellow MacLeods -- travel regularly to our ancestral site on Skye. In the interest of future visits by my family, relatives, and MacLeod friends, I again request any possible refund.
Thank you,
Respectfully,

"To preface, despite my other comments, I really loved this little boathouse."
Waking up on the Loch and visiting with the sheep was wonderful. I even enjoyed dodging sheep every time I left the house. It is a really beautiful, unique location and staying right on the water and seeing the moonlight reflected on the Loch was something I’ll never forget.
All that said, this boathouse is NOT for everyone.
- It is remote. Despite google maps, it is a solid 25/30 minutes into Portree and the house is located at the end of a two mile single lane road which requires navigating into the grass to let other cars pass and having to watch out for sheep, which are frequently all over the road. Do not stay here and expect to be able to walk anywhere or have easy access to food. Dunvegan is also about a 20 minute drive, Uig is closer but has 1 restaurant.
- Everything on the island closes around 7:30 pm and if you will be arriving later than that you need to plan food around that fact. There is a grocery store in Portree that is open late, however.
- You need reservations for any restaurant on the island. If you can get a booking at the Greshornish House Hotel that would be great because it is the only walkable thing from the boathouse.
- The shower is terrible.
- There’s not a lot of cell service and there is no Wi-Fi.
But again, even with all that, I really liked it. It’s very off the map and staying right on the Loch with the sheep and cows was so special.

Unfortunately when we got there there was a note saying the shower wasn't working & late in the week the storage heater in the hall stopped working.
Whilst the cottage was comfortable & well equipped , having to 'climb over ' your bed partner , to get into bed as it was 'built in' against the wall, was not always easy & could be awkward if not too agile.

"We really enjoyed our stay, and especially the view out of the window, which varied each day as the weather varied."
We've never stayed so close to the sea! The settees were really comfy, and it was a bonus to be able to use the downstairs part of the boathouse; the machine washer-drier was great, as the cottage is damp and nothing dries indoors. There were people working in the fish farm next door most week days but they were pretty quiet unless unloading boats or moving equipment with their tractor - the fish farm was fallow so they weren't working as much as usual.
A couple of little things - would have been good to have some pegs to hang wet things on the line outside, and a metal scrubber for cleaning dishes (although I appreciate the latter is not practical during covid).

"A superb retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life; it was wonderful to be “off-grid”."
Clean, warm, a wonderful bothy but with modern conveniences well placed for beautiful walks.
However, it isn’t ‘near’ the fish farm it’s practically in it! Not a problem in the colder months but it could be in the heat of even a Highland one! The 0830 start loading the farm service boats wasn’t a problem....it told you what the time was if you were still recovering from the day before! The beach doesn’t exist and the hotel whilst it looked good wasn’t dog friendly.
All that said, we had a fantastic eight days.

"The boathouse is a lovely warm and cosy little place, perfect for 2 people."
There is a sofa-bed in the living room so could accommodate 4, and there is certainly seating for more, but the kitchen area is only big enough for one person to work comfortably and there’s only space for two at the dining table, so I think any more than 2 people would be a bit of a squeeze. The bed was very comfy, though I literally had to climb into it, it was so high off the floor, and the bathroom as you would expect, except with towels and toiletries included. The shower was the only down point really - the flow was so slow that I had to take the shower head off the wall in order to get under it, and it took ages to rinse the shampoo out of my hair. Other than the shower, the only thing I’d change would be the window in the living room - make it bigger so you can more fully appreciate the picture postcard view! All in all though, a warm and cosy retreat and one I’d certainly visit again.

"Accommodation is overpriced."
The view is excellent but a bigger window would help when 2 people are sitting there wanting to look out. The carpet was full of dog hairs and needs a good hoovering. Other areas such as lampshades needed dusting. The shower is no good for tall people because of the sloping roof and is of poor quality anyway. The lounge seating is shabby and needs updating and the double bed being against the wall so that you could only get out one side was inconvenient. The accommodation is already advertised without the convenience of wifi or a TV signal so we expected much more with the rest of the amenities in view of the price charged.

"We stayed over the Christmas period 2018."
What a 'Gem!!' A wonderful peaceful hide-away with views that will take your breath away. We had such a restful, interesting week and the sights to see on Skye are well worth the 12 hours travelling to get there. The wood burner was awesome and with a plentiful amount of wood (although we took two bags of our own) meant we were warn and cozy all week. We tried the Country Hotel about 200 yards away and it was wonderful. Great menu at very reasonable prices, saves cooking any way, relaxing atmosphere. On the down side of the Boat House, the bed and pillows were too soft and the shower was the usual electric shower which was not powerful at all (hence only the smiley faces for comfort and facilities). Everything else was just what we wanted for a bolt hole over the festive period. Well done Boat house!!

"The shower temp couldn’t be controlled and the rail for the head was broken."
Someone had tried to reattach with elastic band. The furnishings were all jaded and main light in bathroom didn’t work and extractor was blocked with fluffy stuff. The extractor in kitchen had grease dripping from it. And bulb out in that area. We had snail trails 2 mornings when we got up and eventually caught it.
The location views were wonderful but the boathouse was surrounded by local industry making fish food one side and small workshop the other. The smell from the fish food was awful like rotting fish so windows were kept shut, especially when eating. It has so much potential but there is a lot not mentioned about location.
Not value for money, too expensive. Had much better rooms in b&bs and hotels on this trip nowhere near this cost.
