  • "The house is in a great location with amazing views and plenty of space, but be aware that that unless you are paying the extra to hire the pool there is only ONE shower in the house, & this is only accessible through the main bedroom."

This was far from ideal for our group of 8 adults & teens. The house is very dated, not just in decor, but a number of items simply need replacing such as rusting toilet seats, curtains which don't fit the windows & bedding which had rips & holes in it, as well as blood stains. The toilets hadn't been properly cleaned & there was a lot of cooking fat left in the deep fryer which smelt. Dartmouth is lovely & we would recommend the guided tour of the naval college & boat trip to Totnes.

Amazing views. The pool table was a big hit with the family, many a late evening spent on the table. Lots of room for three dogs and a large family. The swimming pool is lovely which was used everyday. There was a lovely surprise to see a TV in every bedroom, which meant no fighting over who was going to have the bedroom with the TV. Dartmouth is a wonderful town with lots of walks and places to see. I did not want to leave.

It was as said very hard to tear our selfs away from the place, but we were blessed with some lovely sunny weather so teared our selfs away for a short while! Then realised how close every thing is and how lovely the town of Dartmouth is. What a treat stay this was, the owner answered any queries quickly and all communication was clear. Fantastic place and love all the effort the owners have made to ensure you have every thing you need and all the info you could need especially thoughtful welcome book that helped poo t out every thing nearby, loved the pics of the build of the boat house process. I personally feel for the views around you and the quality of the place you are staying In the price is fair. We woke up one day to a massive cruise ship infront of us! It was incredible. We will be back thanks so much for having us.

A remarkable location with excellent views and only a short walk into town. Off road parking for 2 vehicles. Very spacious with plenty of equipment (eg 4 toasters!). The heated swimming pool was a great plus with young kids. The negatives. Everything is a bit dated and not in the greatest condition, though very clean. We did get very quick responses when we complained of problems - eg wifi not working; shower head damaged; washing m/c not working, defective light in a shower. In summary, we enjoyed our stay despite problems, especially the 6 and 9 year olds.

So nice having breakfast on the balconies with such a magnificent view. With all the facilities (including the gym and pool and a well equipped kitchen) it would be so easy to just stay and relax all day but it is also such a good starting point for so many walks that we drag ourselves away to appreciate the fresh air and exercise but always nice to come back! So pleased I found this listing and next year is booked for another return. Thank you

  • "I do not usually complain even if I have a really bad meal but because this property costs a fair bit, I felt I had to."

The view was outstanding...... but what a dump. The smell of damp as soon as you arrive hits you hard. There are not enough toilet facilities to accommodate the amount of bedrooms and the whole (hole) place needs gutting and updating. It feels dirty everywhere. My sheets on the bed were still damp from having been washed (hopefully) there is no downstairs loo but plenty of room to install one.... only mentioning this as it could be a big issue for people with mobility issues. The outside terrace needs a good tidy up with the removal of a large pot which contained numerous cigarette ends. We were greeted with the previous occupiers rubbish bags in a downstairs (outside) cupboard which had not been emptied before our arrival. The carpets are stained and have seen better days. I would advise anybody to think again before booking. What a shame as it could be stunning if completely knocked through and started again.

I do not usually respond to feedback but I suspect this property was only booked as few would allow your three hairy dogs or early arrival. There are two baths, two seperate shower units and three toilets in the property, We advise not the least because Dartmouth is hilly that it is not suitable for those with restricted mobility but many come. The one thing the property is not is damp, but yes if open the window you are adjacent to the estuary, a bonus in clement weather. There are plenty of photos which accurately reflect the property and there are many returning guests. Not many better locations in world than Dartmouth and surrounding areas, Property Owner

Felt airy and space for a large group. To improve rating really need to upgrade main bathroom for 8 guests to include shower. That bathroom was the main let down in facilities. Definitely looking a bit tired in places and sofas have definitely seen better days. Leisure facilities were a bonus but quite an expense on top of cost of holiday (still glad we paid the extra though!). Parking is restricted in location, avoid taking more than 2 cars.

There is normally plenty of free roadside car parking towards the castle approximately a five to ten minute walk from the property. It is also possible to park at the park and ride car park and renew the fee currently £5 per day charge on a daily basis, see park and ride for details . Property Owner

Really not great and despite the amazing views and the fact it has a private pool, the extortionate price paid for both house and pool is just unrealistic

I am sorry to hear you did not enjoy your return trip to the property, having stayed previously. I am a little surprised about your comments about decor as there are extensive photographs on website of the property. The swimming pool is expensive to run and despite the energy crisis charges have remained the same and many pools are obtaining assistance from government due energy crisis. The cleaning company does their best, we use hotel quality towels and provide cleaners details in travel directions if there are any issues you have on arrival. This is a user friendly, pet allowing 3 star property. We are not a minimalistic, new , not pet allowing five star property and would encourage people not to book if that is what they are looking for. Property Owner

  • "Great property, the bed in master bedroom needs new mattress as I didn't get one good night sleep."

The curtains all need renewing as most are off rails or not straight. But we all had a really good stay and so we should for £2500, dispite our good time, unfortunately it's not worth that kind of money. If it was new like the when the pictures were taken then maybe. Don't get me wrong the house is fantastic but we feel like we massively overpaid. The pool was a great feature but again not worth the extra £600. Not cleaned, mouldy tiles. Dirt and sand left in the bottom of the pool. Also there is a pool up the road by Lidl so just go there. Sorry but will be looking for something else next time

Glad you all had a really good stay. The swimming pool is an optional feature and the charge merely reflects the very considerable cost in providing this private in house facility which includes constant running of multi sourced dehumidification system and air source heat pump. The pool is serviced by personnel almost daily and the tiles are not mouldy but merely reflect natural colour of the ceramic grout. The pool is both chlorinated and filtered under pressure through a large sand filter to maintain crystal clarity of the water which is the sign of health of the pool present throughout your stay. It is inevitable that there might be tiny collections of sand on bottom of pool from time to time. This was put in place many years ago as a necessity as people do not shower before pool use so that all filtered material can be backwashed out of pool circuit. It is not considered that a charge of £250 per person per week for a great property is overpriced when one considers the overheads. We have a snagging book in the property and always attend to things brought to our attention on a rolling basis including feedback and we want everybody to have a really good stay for a fair and reasonable price. Yes as some reviews say, it could benefit from some TLC but that in no way detracted from our enjoyment. It is very spacious, with a retro vibe and has all you could need for a comfortable stay. There are lovely views from every room, with a balcony running from three of the bedrooms and a large terrace off the living room. It is ideally situated for a five minute walk into Dartmouth and a ten minute walk to woods, coastal walks, Dartmouth Castle and a small cove ideal for a dip. The swimming pool was the icing on the cake, enjoyed by all five adults (two who are seventy year old) and an eight month old baby. None of us wanted to go home.

The views were outstanding but due to location and natural beauty of the harbour. Pool area photos need updating as some listed equipment no longer there. TV in snug very difficult to work due to lack of remotes. I did contact owner who responded immediately. Overall cleanliness really needs immediate addressing for such a beautiful house in a stunning location. Likewise quality of bedding needs attention. The instruction to take bottles to park and ride car park was not expected. You wouldn’t necessarily need a car to stay here so not sure how that would be achieved. If some of the negatives were addressed we would definitely return.

The council provide two large bottle bank facilities for recycling of glass bottles in Dartmouth. One is in their town centre car park which is only a five minute walk from the property, the other is in their park and ride car park which is by the large Sainsburys store which is a five minutes drive. There is a specific empty bottle shelf by the refuse bins of the property for storage and this is how glass bottle recycling is undertaken . Property Owner

The furniture was well worn and the throws on the settees were covered in dog hairs so needed washing or replacing. The vacuum wasn't safe as it sparked when used. One of the mattresses in the family room needs replacing very uncomfortable it looks like there's has been another mattress placed on top of a worn one. The windows are extremely dirty cant have been cleaned in months and its a shame as the views are great. We paid extra for the swimming pool which the kids enjoyed. Left a snagging list in the property when we left so hopefully these things will get sorted. Also sent 2 email to sykes whilst we was there they still havent answered them so wasn't happy about that. The pool was a godsend, (definitely book that, you won’t regret it) as was the pool table and sky TV (including sports) and the living area is incredibly spacious. The only issue is the bathroom situation which isn’t ideal given that one is en-suite and can’t be shared with the room next to it without having to go in the actual room (there is no door between the room the bathroom is in and the bathroom itself so you can’t really share it at nighttime if someone is in bed) and there is only one other bathroom (which is the smaller, less well equipped of the two). The whole place could do with a few hundred hundred K chucked at it and then it would be off the charts amazing. The views are something else and the location perfect.

  • "Just come back from a delightful few days at The Bight Boat house."

The house itself is a lovely house. We went with a party of 10 and there was plenty of room to accommodate us. The house is well stocked with everything you need for a nice break. The kids enjoyed the pool area and kept them amused. There are plenty of things to keep everyone amused, swimming pool, pool table, gym, sauna, games, books and films. The view is gorgeous, so relaxing to wake up to in the morning and to sit and have breakfast looking over the harbour. The kitchen is fully equipt and has plenty of room. As it was February not many of the shops nearby were open but there are so many cafes, resturants and pubs to visit. Very pretty and quaint shops that are about a 10 minute walk from the house. Very easy transaction with the owner for the trip. There are plenty of information books in the house to find things to visit in Dartmouth.

  • "1) The accommodation was excellent."

Everyone had plenty of space everywhere...critically so in the bedrooms and the kitchen. 2) The furniture was good with plenty of big comfortable sofas, and with excellent breakfast and dining tables. 3) The pool was bigger and better than the photos suggested. Our grand-children aged 7 and 9 are keen swimmers and were in the pool two or three times a day. 4) The view of the Dart estuary is breath-taking. 5) A nit-picker might make some minor criticisms, but we would not like to spoil our over-whelming impression which is that Bight Boathouse is an amazing place which we all loved.
