Nestled in the picturesque and famous town of Windermere is our next Lake District dog walk, the circular route up to the summit of Orrest Head. Offering a wonderful vantage point over Lake Windermere, this is an idyllic spot for you and your pooch.
As one of the shorter Lake District dog walks on our list, measuring just under 3 miles, Orrest Head is a great choice for a mid-day ramble. The Orrest Head footpath sign marks the beginning of this walk in the heart of Windermere, off Church Street.
Join the lane and take the left-hand path that ascends up the hill and branches into three; opt for the right path which leads to an ornate gate. Head through it and admire the surrounding trees as your dog trots by your side.
After heading through the next kissing gate, climb the steps to the summit to marvel at Lake Windermere from 784 feet above sea level. You will also find a view indicator detailing the landmarks visible from Orrest Head.
When you’ve finished taking in the beautiful panoramas head back down the hill to continue exploring Windermere or head to one of the UK’s best dog-friendly places to eat; The Flying Pig.

Begin this Lake District dog walk at White Moss car park, north west of Rydal Water. From here, you can head west along the glistening River Rothay before brushing past the eastern side of Grasmere Lake.

This Lake District dog walk is the perfect choice for those seeking a route that runs alongside one of the Lake district’s most iconic lakes! Start at Legburthwaite car park before turning left, crossing the road, and heading through the gate on the right.
You’ll soon reach the shores of Thirlmere. On sunny days, the light dancing on the water’s surface, surrounded by lush greenery, creates a magical sight not to be missed. In the distance, Raven Crag, High Seat, and Watendlath Fells can all be seen.

Pack up all you and your dog need for a day of adventure, then head to one of the pay and display car parks in Pooley Bridge before embarking on the route.
As well as stunning views of Ullswater there are ample other must-see landmarks. Head to Aira Force Waterfall, a majestic 20m high waterfall or climb Gowbarrow Fell which rises to 148m is decked in heather and overlooks the Ullswater Valley.
You can also explore The Ullswater Way Heritage Trail during this dog walk in the Lake District. It comprises 12 installations by local artists celebrating the valley’s heritage.
