For a fourth consecutive year, we are proud to be in partnership with National Parks UK. To celebrate, we would like to recognise the work they do for our beautiful green spaces and demonstrate our ongoing commitment to UK nature.
Discover National Parks, Discover You
Home to powerful and extraordinary landscapes that are unique by their heritage, natural beauty and wildlife, National Parks have the ability to educate, inspire creativity and relieve stress and anxiety for many.
The UK’s 15 National Parks offer thousands of kilometres of public rights of way, over 1,300km of which are suitable for those with accessibility issues. For over 70 years, these designated protected areas have inspired the nation; their story is one of romance, rebellion and a growing appreciation for the great outdoors.
Welcoming over 100 million visitors every year, they are ideal locations to escape the everyday with a collection of adventure experiences and wonderful things to do. Discover how to make the most of your next day out with our one-day guide to 15 National Parks.
National Parks Protectors
Last year, National Parks either took the lead in or took part in 337 conservation and wildlife projects. In 2021, we have committed to supporting two significant conservation projects at Northumberland National Park and Snowdonia National Park.
Pollen in Love is a project that aims to provide early sources of pollen and nectar to the bees in the area, by planting goat willow and working with farmers and landowners to increase the number of wildflower species in hay meadows and verges.
Through funding this work, Sykes will be extending the bee season in Northumberland National Park, helping to increase the bee population and provide important habitats in which rare species can thrive. Not only that, but the funds will enable pollinator surveys to take place so rangers and volunteers can monitor progress. You can find out more about the different types of species of Bumblebee that can be spotted at the park, just here.
As well as this encouraging initiative, Snowdonia National Park is celebrating their 70th anniversary and as part of the celebrations, they will plant a tree in the National Park for every child born within 20 miles of its boundary in that year, plus everyone marking their 70th birthday. This will equate to around 5,000 trees being planted over the course of the year. We are delighted to get Sykes’ staff involved in this project to help make a difference, with some worthwhile volunteering sessions at the park.
To plan your next visit to a UK National Park, head over to their website to find out how to get there, how to get around once you’re there, plus discover a plethora of activities you can get stuck into during your trip. There are many ways in which you can get involved with volunteering and apprenticeship schemes too.
