Blessed with an abundance of mountains, hills, lakes and rivers, the Lake District is the ultimate destination for those seeking outdoor adventure. In the post, we highlight some of the best outdoor activities in the Lakes and where you can find them.
1. Ghyll Scrambling in Newlands (near Keswick)
Keswick is a great destination for those searching for an adrenaline rush and what better way than scrambling your way down a Ghyll?
A Ghyll (or Gill) is a narrow valley in the North of England and is an extremely popular activity in the Lake District because of its abundance of valleys and streams. The water running along a Ghyll is referred to as a Beck, and during Ghyll scrambling, you will scramble your up or down the Beck. This is a very family friendly activity, however, a level of fitness and a head for heights will be required
Prices start from £25 per person and this includes all equipment. View more information here.
2. Canoe or Kayak in Windermere
With lake Windermere being over 10-miles long, it is the ultimate location for those wanting to try their hand at canoeing or kayaking. Its beautiful shorelines offer plenty to explore and it is a perfect way to reconnect with the great outdoors. Guided tours and instruction courses are available for those with limited experience.

A trip to the Lake District wouldn’t be complete without taking to the fells. This walk is suitable for the whole family and along the way you’ll experience both steep climbs and relaxing stretches. The route takes you across Loughrigg Fell to the tarn, before heading to Skelwith Bridge. This is not a circular walk, but, if you’re feeling energetic, you can always head back the way you came.
