  • "The cottage is close to a busy road!"

The noise affected our sleep badly. The back yard is inadequate, insecure and very badly maintained. The oven was unusable due to a broken seal. The upstairs bedroom was uncomfortable, the ceiling slope made it unable for us to stand fully! The property would benefit from some TLC. We cannot recommend.

Hi Sue. I would like to thank you for booking our place in Portsoy. We do appreciate every booking. Also thank you for taking the time to review. I would just like to go over some of the points you have made. The cottage is indeed close to a busy road hence within a few minutes walking distance of shops, bakeries, cafés and the beautiful harbour & beach. We are staying here at the moment and the noise at night is very minimal. Perhaps the windows had just not been closed properly or the vents were open but they really do block out any normal traffic noise so you might just hear the occasional lorry. Also we do provide ear plugs in the welcome basket for anyone who would like to use them. With regards to the back 'yard' to say it is inadequate and badly maintained is extremely unfair. The decked area with furniture and fencing around is only 2 years old and was re-stained and varnished this year. Cushions can't be left out due to the weather but are kept in the shed which you have access to and so if you do get nice weather it's a lovely little place to sit and have a drink and a chat. As for the fence and gate to the side of the property we completely hold our hands up here! They were damaged in the last storm but we weren't aware of how badly so we really do apologise for that. We are here this week for maintenance and this is top of our list! I have also ordered a new oven seal but I was able to use the oven last night with no issues. As far as the bedroom ceiling goes there is obviously nothing we can do about that. We are not very tall so it's fine for us but if you are tall I can see it would be a problem. We have shown the slope of the ceiling in the photographs so people are aware before booking. Lastly the scores you have given. Aside from the side fence the cottage looks exactly as it does in the photos and everything in the description is correct, we have provided everything you could need to make a cosy holiday home. Kind regards, Maria Property Owner

  • "This is a great property, it is in the village centre so all the amenities are on you doorstep."

Four minute walk to a panoramic view of the Moray Firth. Gives an opportunity to see dolphins and grey whales. Buckpool is also home to a large seal colony. The house is the same as many in the area. It is clean, well appointed with everything you will need. The stairs to the upper bedroom are steep and the roof there is tricky. But at 6’1 and with an arthritic hip I managed easily… so don’t let that put you off. All in all a great stay visiting family in Fordyce and Sandend, a perfect base.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a lovely review. So happy you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

  • "A lovely little cottage and perfectly located!"

Everything is just a few minutes walk away, bar, bakery, ice cream shop and the best chippy we’ve ever had, Hook, Line & Sinker! The harbour is great and we were lucky enough to visit at the weekend when the Folk Festival was on. The cottage is cosy and well stocked with everything you need. The only slight negative is the sloping ceiling in the bedroom which takes a while to adjust to. We had a few bumps and knocks until we remembered to duck! All in all I would recommend a stay in the cottage and the very picturesque Portsoy.

  • "Great base for exploring Portsoy & the surrounding areas."

Just off a main road, close to shops and within short walking distance of the harbour. Well equipped. We only occupied the double bed which was very comfortable, and the low part of the ceiling in that bedroom wasn't too much of an issue for us. Parking right outside address was very useful.

  • "We had a wonderful few days staying at this lovely cottage just before Christmas to celebrate our ruby wedding anniversary."

We had been keen to escape from the stress of Christmas and recharge our batteries and the appeal of a little fisherman’s cottage near the sea was hard to resist. The weather as predicted was awful but the cottage was so welcoming and warm with its log burning wood stove, lovely furnishings and decor. The bedrooms comfortably furnished with seaside themes and the beds so comfortable. There was a lovely welcome pack on arrival and the kitchen is well equipped with everything you could need. The upstairs main bedroom and shower room has a very low sloping ceiling which it takes a bit of getting used to and I did manage to bang my head on it once so something to be aware of but you only make that mistake once and just something to be aware of. Being a thick walled cottage, we never heard any loud traffic even though we were not far from the town centre. There are also so many decent shops nearby for supplies, eg. Places to eat, coffee shops, gift shop, bakers, fishmonger, co op, hotel, fish and chip shop etc all less than 5 minute walk away and a lovely harbour and beach 15 mins walk away. The cottage can comfortably accommodate a family of 4 or 2 couples or even just one couple like us looking for some peace and quiet. We loved our stay here and would definitely like to return again in the summer. Thank you so much for helping us celebrate our special anniversary and take home some lovely memories to treasure.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review. So glad you had nice time and have some special memories of your wedding anniversary. Hope to welcome you again soon x Property Owner

  • "We had a great holiday at the cottage."

Portsoy is a lovely village and the coast around this area is spectacular. The EV charging point in The Square in Portsoy was just 2-3 minutes walk away and was reliable, so we started each morning with a fully charged car. The cottage was very warm, comfortable and well equipped. We hope to come back.

  • "Very clean and comfortable."

The double bed was very comfortable. The kitchen was good and well stocked with dishes etc and equipment. Good shower upstairs and nice bathroom downstairs. Should mention that upstairs has coomed ceilings which would be difficult for a tall person. The house is on a small lane but near the busy main road which can be noisy at night - not to mention the seagulls!! The owner was helpful and friendly. Portsoy is a lovely small town on the Moray Firth coast which has many coastal walks. Aspire is a good place to eat but booking is recommended and check opening times.

Thank you for your lovely review. We are booked in to Aspire in a couple of weeks and are really looking forward to trying it, thank you for the recommendation Property Owner

  • "Stairs to master bedroom quite steep."

Wouldn’t recommend them for older visitors or people with mobility issues. We couldn’t use this bedroom. Garden is very small and not really suitable for dogs in my opinion. The cottage is beautifully clean and well equipped. Parking outside was excellent and the location is fabulous. The welcome pack was very generous and the cottage is cosy, we had a lovely 3 days in Portsoy.

Thanks for your feedback and for the very positive comments about the cottage. Just for helpful information, it is an ex-fisherman's cottage, albeit completely modernised and equipped for creature comforts. The photos give a true representation of the cottage and the garden, with the garden being an easy maintained nice space to relax and catch the sun (when we have some!). These cottages do not have vast swathes of land with them as the photos show. There is a large and beautiful park which runs around Loch Soy just behind the garden which you can get to within a 2 minute walk in either direction from the house if something bigger is required for exercise. We've updated the description to advise that the stairs are a little steep for those with mobility difficulties, thanks again. Property Owner
