It was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Lots to see and do locally. We were fortunate with the weather and amazing sunsets watched from the top of the village and the coastal path.

The beds were comfortable and the house in general was very clean. The house had everything we needed except some oven trays and sharp knives. The outside area was great for the dogs and a great suntrap on the nicer days we had. There's a grassed area literally a minute from the house leading upto a war memorial and amazing views over Findochty pronounced Finechty by the locals. A great base to get to Buckie, Portknockie and Cullen. A lovely house overall but just needs a little updating in places, other than that it's in a great location.

  • "The house is huge!"

So much space for the four of us and our two labs. Lovely and clean, with good parking. The enclosed courtyard area was perfect for the dogs. Washer and dryer an added bonus. Short walk to the local stony beach and just a 7 minute to the beautiful Cullen Beach. We had an amazing stay and would definitely be back. Only downside was the previous guests hadn’t put the bins out so the yard next to the back door was a bit smelly.

Cullen beach 2 miles away is amazing for water sports and the house has plenty of room so that you can have privacy with 2 sitting rooms and a formal dining room, very friendly neighbours who made the area feel welcoming.

The settees were so low, soft and old and also had stains on them, the kitchen table and chairs were cheap, rickety and just poor quality. The dining room furniture also was lacking. Carpets were old and the house had a very odd smell. There was no clothes horse. Such a shame as Findochty was a lovely place. The house just needs updating. A welcome pack would be nice. We’ve spent nearly £700 on a weeks accommodation before and had a nice pack with local produce such as milk, eggs, bread, jam. This encourages visitors to shop locally having tried the products, and also if you’ve had an 8 hour drive, arrived late and been unable to bring cold milk a cuppa makes everything right!

The location is stunning and everybody is really friendly. However there are really very few places you can go in if you have dogs. There is only one pub in Findochty which only allows dogs in the public bar not the lounge where the large dining area is so if you want to eat there you either have to sit outside which is fine if the weather is good or they have one small table in the bar which is also quite a small space dominated by a pool table, the views from the outside seating are amazing though. The most dog friendly place we found locally was Portsoy where there is a small cafe where dogs are allowed both inside and outside., and in the marble shop in the 17th century harbour.

About the location

FINDOCHTY

Buckie 3 miles; Elgin 20 miles.

The delightful fishing village of Findochty, which dates back to the 1400s, sits on the edge of the natural harbour known as Crooked Haven. Nowadays, Findochty is used more by leisure sailors than fishermen, whilst the fishing boats have moved down the coast to Buckie. Findochty has a small sheltered beach at Long Head and a popular pub on the harbour front. Why not visit the delightful town of Cullen, situated beneath spectacular railway viaducts and renowned for its hearty smoked haddock and potato soup, or enjoy a spot of golf at either of the Cullen or Strathlene golf courses? Take a pleasant drive to the lively town of Elgin, home to an imposing cathedral, museums and the mesmerising Biblical Gardens. With the whole of the Moray Coast to explore, with its Whisky Trail, an abundance of historic houses and gardens, sparkling golden sands and hospitable inns, this is a superb base from which to enjoy the delightful north east coast of Scotland.
