  • "As group leaders, we found the property lived up to expectations."

There are a few things that need addressing: 1) The heating is not straight forward. Most of us are practical... run our own homes. Couldn't sort the heating out. Texted the property owner, Chrissie. She was quick to respond. Soon after we found that new batteries were needed and the terminals needed cleaning. 2) We couldn't get the TV's to work. The remotes need sorting. Might be an idea to provide an HDMI lead to the main TV and for guests (who will probably have their own TV licence) to use WIFI on their own laptop to access BBC iplayer, ITV player, etc. 3) Not enough toilet rolls. 4) Washing up liquid? Washing up scourer/scritcher? More tea towels.

  • "We’re so glad we came back to “Breeze Cottage” for another family holiday two years after our first experience of Church Bay … the sun shone for most of our week there, and we took the ten minute walk to the beach every day!"

Our swimmers and paddle-boarders enjoyed the safe water, and the local walks are many and varied. Location is everything, and the views over to Holyhead harbour full of interest, though we were glad that cruise liner passengers head elsewhere! We ate on the patio every evening, and the under-tens enjoyed playing in the garden, which thankfully is grass rather than lawn, and with no plants to damage. The garden gate to next door’s garden enabled occasional play with the youngsters in the adjoining holiday-let cottage. When we tired of cooking for ourselves (and there’s plenty of kit, so it’s easy to self-cater) Church Bay offers an excellent restaurant (The Lobster Pot) and the Wavecrest Café, both of which we sampled with pleasure. Just be aware that it’s safest to pre-book at the former, though you can always get a drink at their bar, and that the latter’s lovely strawberries and cream scones are only available Thursdays to Sundays. Some (mostly external) aspects of the cottage would benefit from maintenance, but the facilities all work well, with lots of hot water – having three bathrooms helps when you’re accommodating three family groups. The nowadays-essential Wi-Fi was fast enough to support all our many devices. The TV system needs some care to navigate, but we were able to enjoy watching the Olympic Games, even though our own swimming skills wouldn’t have taken us to Paris! When our next family holiday heads to Anglesey, Bwthyn Awel will be on the short list.

  • "Thank you for a wonderful holiday."

This was a very last minute booking as we had been badly let down at a previous property. The house is in a wonderful position overlooking the sea with views over to Holyhead harbour. We all enjoyed watching the boats and ships. Sitting on the balcony was a delight. Church Bay beach was perfect for all the family and was only a ten minute walk away. The kitchen was very well equipped. There were two fridges and a freezer, a microwave and oven. A table in the kitchen together with a table on the deck, plenty of room for us all to eat. The bedrooms all had plenty of storage. The upstairs sitting room was comfortable. Unfortunately one of our showers had luke warm water but a plumber was contacted. There was plenty of hot water for the rest of us. We would thoroughly recommend this property.

  • "A beautiful property and setting."

Church bay has a great beach, cafe and restaurant and is very accessible to the other parts of the island in the car. The property is very comfortable and well set out. The upstairs sitting room and balcony have amazing views and the kitchen is well equipped. We had an issue with the washing machine, but the communication with the host was impeccable. Thank you - definitely worth a return trip.

Thank you, we are delighted that you enjoyed the house and would welcome you back Property Owner

  • "This property was ideal for us."

There were 10 of us - 4 adults and 6 teenagers. There was plenty of room. The kitchen was very well equipped and the lounge on the 1st floor was comfortable and had lovely views over the sea with fantastic sunsets. The local beach was within walking distance. We all enjoyed our stay.

Thank you for your review, we are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay and would be happy to see you again Property Owner

  • "Bwthyn Awel is the western half of a property with three sections, but we hardly saw the other occupants, and there was space for our three vehicles."

It's set well back from a quiet road, so there are no issues with noise. The internal organisation of the house worked very well for our group (three couples; three under-8s from two families) as regards allocation of bedrooms and the layout of the kitchen/eating area. The equipment was excellent and there were plenty of utensils, etc. There was plenty of hot water (LPG boiler), even with our heavy requirements. The lounge area was spacious and comfortable and its balcony had a view to die for! We ate outside most of the time, and enjoyed a similar view from the decking ... the garden is basic lawn, but large enough and safe for the kids to run about in. Found Church Bay a great place for a holiday with youngsters and the beach is an easy walk away using the short-cut along a footpath, is safe for swimming and has lots of interesting rock-pools. Add a clean public toilet and a cafe (Thursday-Sunday) with great strawberry scones, and what's not to like!

  • "A beautiful location."

An unsightly outside rubbish area near the entrance door. Cleanliness did not meet our standards, kitchen work surfaces, cupboards, skirting boards, carpet edges, patio door, bath all needed cleaning by ourselves in order for us to feel comfortable. Dead flies, wood lice and “muck”on bedroom carpets and behind furniture , the hoover was blocked and the filters were filthy. We invited the owner to visit in person or we offered to do a video link to show the lack of cleanliness, she declined. A toilet cistern continuously running and not flush-able. Carbon monoxide monitor not working. Issues reported to owner and Sykes Cottages

Many thanks for your feedback. When you raised your concerns regarding cleanliness I did arrange for my House Keeper to attend the property who arrived to find the only cleaning required was to pick up items you left behind the sofa. My Handyman attended due to your concerns about the toilet and they were unable to find an issue. Since reading your review we have ensured that the carbon monoxide monitor is in working order. As I explained to you I live 100 miles away however for this reason I do have a local team that manage the property for me and are always happy to attend where necessary, to address any issues as they did during your stay. • "We stayed in the beautiful Bwthyn Awel cottage in January 2022."

The location, in Church Bay is lovely and peaceful with the Lobster Pot restaurant just a short walk from the cottage and a little further on is the beach. The house and facilities are as shown and detailed on the Sykes website but feels much homier than pictures can convey. It is modern looking inside and out with lots of lovely and thoughtful finishing touches. Bedding was charming and the beds very comfortable (which I was happily surprised to find!). There is a 1st floor balcony with decking which will be a lovely place to relax, sip a drink, read, admire the view… in the warmer months. Speaking of temperature, it was cold outside when we were staying there but we never felt a draft in the cottage, the water was hot and the temperature was cosy without being too warm. We had Wifi, Netflix and TV channels which we enjoyed from the comfy sofas in the first floor sitting room. Oh yes, and in the beautiful kitchen/eating area with the picturesque view there is a Nespresso machine so don’t forget to pack some pods – or pop to Holyhead shops (a short drive away) to stock up on essentials. Holyhead also has some nice shops, cafés and pubs. If you want to eat out nearer to your new home from home – the the Lobster Pot restaurant is open throughout and I have to say the food there was delicious! Lots of seafood as you would expect but other carnivore and vegetarian options available too. We also saw a nearby café, but understand that is only open “in season”. Overall, from our experience, it exceeded our expectations (as did the area) and the new owner couldn’t have been more helpful re the very few queries we had. We will definitely be booking another stay in Bwthyn Awel later in the year.

  • "The property was in a nice location with all the facilities listed."

However the televisions were really difficult to get working( we only managed to get the lounge tv working). The ensuite bathroom downstairs had no hot water to the shower. The surrounding area is lovely however there is a lack of places to eat. The lobster pot was great but the church inn was not serving food during our stayand we found the places we visited lacking in character and with very little to do.

Thank you for your feedback its important to us. We have a local team who can assist with any queries during your stay. We hope to see you again in the future, kind regards the owners. Property Owner

  • "The property more than lived up to expectations as described on the website."

The bedrooms were immaculate and the living room upstairs is so lovely and light, bright and airy . We were only a small group but there is plenty of space inside and out for families or groups of friends . The scenery is stunning and we were luck enough to have good weather and enjoyed the sunsets from the decking . It is the perfect place to relax and unwind and retreat from the world and we hope to book again soon . The nearby beach is stunning and only a short walk from a fantastic restaurant called the Lobster Pot . The house is so lovely you could just stay there for your entire holiday but if you want to take in the sights there are so many places in easy reach . We were able to visit Trearddur Bay and a visit to Rhosneighr is also recommended . The gardends at Plas Newydd were stunning even though it was mid September when we visited . Beaumaris is also somewhere to put on the "to do " list We understand this is under new management and the owner could not have been more helpful with the last minute questions . We had a very quick response to anything we asked We would thoroughly recommend a visit to this house

Outstanding views and just a short walk to a fab burger van, cool cafe and the wonderful Lobster Pot restaurant. The bedrooms were spacious with lovely bedding. The new owner could not have been more helpful with our enquiries. Church Bay was just idyllic and the coastal path either way took us to fantastic look out points and quiet spots. Great for launching the kayak and rock pooling. Sainsburys deliver too!
