  • "As it’s a self catering holiday it would have been helpful to have a freezer."

The details did state it only had a fridge so we had to take food that had long dates on it. The cottage details stated that the heating programmes were already set times and set at 21 as per Scottish law. Considering we paid extra towards the fuel cost It would have been nice to have an over ride button so that we could have the heating on when we wanted as there were times we felt cold.

  • "Darnhay Milk House was of exceptional quality."

One of the group was extremely ill whilst on holiday and the facilities provided enabled them to isolate in a separate bathroom to their partner. Its location is stunning. We loved the far reaching views and the sunsets each night. Once we navigated the country lanes, it was easy to find our way back but we got lost initially a few times!! Pity I couldn't find anywhere who sold Mauchline ware. I really wanted to buy some. Also when I wanted to send a postcard to Australia, the post office assistant in Mauchline didn't know where Australia was when working out the postage!! Apart from the challenging health issues, really enjoyed exploring a new area of Scotland.

  • "We have just spent a fantastic week at this beautiful cottage."

The cottage is definitely one of the best we have stayed in. The cottage is so well equipped throughout, that there was nothing it didn’t have. It is extremely clean and comfortable to the highest standards, the views from the picture window are amazing and, the location is perfect for visiting Ayrshire completely. The homemade cake was delicious and Jason made us feel very welcome. It was lovely speaking to Erin about her painting and ours has pride of place in our home! We will definitely return in the future and, in the meantime, will recommend it to family and friends.

  • "This place was in a beautiful location."

The cottage was stunning. We were so pleased when we arrived. Owner left a wonderful homemade cake for us. We had a few problems, nothing major, more annoying than anything else. No trays or dishes for oven. No rope or whirly to dry washing. No way to get air into main living space. The only windows that open are in bedroom. All in all, we had a great week. Just needed to buy a few things we expected to be there.

Hi Julie, Thank you for the feed back on your stay. I can confirm that there are roasting dishes and tray in the drawer under the oven. There is a clothes drying rack in the cupboard off the lounge, along with an ironing board and iron. We would have been happy to direct you or indeed offer up additional equipment as required, as set out in the property folder. Regards, Cristy & Jason Property Owner

Very peaceful and lovely views. The only things I would improve on are a lack of storage for provisions due to all cupboards being full of equipment and the lack of a shelf in the ensuite.

  • "Holiday property was very clean & comfortable."

Lovely setting. The only suggestion for improvement would be perhaps a small cupboard or sideboard as there was no room for food storage. Also we had elderly relatives in our party & they suggested a small stool in the bathroom - ample room for one. The homemade cake on arrival was a nice touch & very much appreciated.

The property was good value by the description but exceeded expectations- larger and more comfortable than expected, and with fabulous views. The hosts were fantastic and made great recommendations, and there is more than enough to do in the area- Dumfries house as a start. Even with poor weather we had a great time- the property is very homely and easy to chill in especially with great log burner. With X2 Tesco near by, self catering is easy and the kitchen is functional and Local butchers at Garson are friendly and sell great produce. Lucky to have one great sunset, and we would absolutely stay again- really enjoyed the property and chats with Jason.

Made to feel very welcome and there was a delicious homemade cake upon arrival, perfect after a very long journey. All the rooms are a good size, and the facilities are great as the owners have thought of everything you need during your stay. It is lovely seeing the cows and sheep outside the picture window and the kids especially enjoyed it. The cottage is a good place to explore South West of Scotland. Recently converted to an incredibly high standard the cottage was the perfect base for our holiday. With more than enough room for two adults and two children - the cottage feels cosy while also allowing plenty of daylight stream in through the roof windows. The picture window in the lounge faces west and is the perfect view to watch the sun set with a glass of wine. Located just outside of a small town the cottage is far enough away from everything to feel secluded yet close enough to amenities like a co-op, bars and restaurants. A perfect getaway with lots to do in the vicinity, walks a plenty and some great places to eat. We will be visiting again!

The property

Positioned near the quiet village of Mauchline, set amidst rolling countryside and beautiful Ayrshire scenery is Darnhay Milk House, newly-renovated by the owner in December 2018.

This converted barn offers a well-presented interior with a high vaulted ceiling and uplifting décor, ideal for a family of four or a group of friends.

The bright and airy spaces, combined with modern fittings add to the comfort of your stay. Snuggle up by the wood burner on a cold night and unwind in front of the TV with your loved ones, or play a game at the coffee table over drinks after dinner.

Velux windows overhead allow the natural light to stream through and the dimmed lights create a soothing ambience of an evening. Cook up a delicious meal in the well-appointed kitchen and gather together around the dining table after an adventurous day exploring the local area.

When the night draws in, you have two lovely bedrooms to choose from; the super king-size double offers zip/link beds and an en-suite, whilst the twin is ideal for kids and is served by the family bathroom.

Outside you have a private patio, perfect for balmy evenings watching the sun setting beyond a patchwork of fields and enjoying long-distance views over to the Isle of Arran.

Just over two miles away are the nearest amenities in the village of Mauchline, with shops, pubs, cafes, art gallery and the Burns House Museum.

The award winning SORN INN is also 3 miles away.

Ayrshire is one the best golf destinations in the world with nearly 50 courses to choose from including 5 of the UK's top 100 courses and 3 open championship venues close by. The seaside resort of Ayr boasts plenty more shops along with sandy beaches.

Prince Charles' philanthropic Dumfries House and estate, with its unrivalled collection of priceless Chippendale furniture, is just 8 miles away.

A little further away is the jewel in the crown Culzean Castles, a favourite day-trip destination of many Darnhay guests.

Cross by car ferry from Ardrossan Harbour to Brodick on the Isle of Arran and discover Brodick Castle, hiking on Goat Fell, and the Arran whiskey distillery along with scenery-filled walks along the Arran Coastal Way.

You also have access to the cities of Glasgow (45 mins by car) and beautiful Edinburgh (under 2 hours by car) with its Old and New Towns. A well-deserved break in Scotland.
