  • "We booked the cottage for our mini moon and it didn’t disappoint."

The cottage was beautiful and very cosy and the Christmas decorations gave it an extra wintery and homely feel. The cottage and surrounding area was as described so we knew what to expect and planned accordingly with no mishaps. Both downstairs and upstairs were clean and dust free. The kitchen and bathroom were fully supplied with dish soap, hand wash, and toilet roll, as well as shampoo and body wash. The hosts were accommodating and friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We hope to return soon in the future and couldn’t recommend the property enough!

  • "This is a very comfortable place to stay."

It is well equipped and is in a very interesting local area with great walks. We enjoyed visiting Woolsthorpe Manor and Barnsdale. Perfectly well equipped for self catering. We had problems with the internet and the owners were very quick to respond and help to sort out the problem. They were friendly and helpful. If you enjoy walking as we do then you will be very happy with this area.

  • "On day of arrival 3/9/24, I telephoned the owner's (14."

05hrs) to inform them of our arrival and that we would soon be at the property to collect the key and was advised that they were not expecting us on that day, but 4/9/24 and explained there was a mix up with dates, we had booked this break 6 months prior. Collected key at 15.00hrs from owner. The accommodation was very clean and spacious with lovely views. A couple of minor issues which I feel should be addressed:- No washing up bowl, no dust pan & brush, no broom, no decent hoover, so unable to hoover on our last day, no kitchen roll, no pillow protectors on bed , which is a big MUST have, the mattress protector was too small for the bed. Just another issue, you had to drive to the nearest pub/restaurant and shop. Which was 1.8mile and 4 miles as described on site. On saying that the scenery was lovely and we had a nice walk, yes your thinking we should have done our research, but even so would of liked a pub to walk to (not too far a walk)

  • "This is a lovely property, perfect for visiting Rutland and the pretty villages and towns nearby."

The cottage has all you need, very clean and bright, with everything to a high standard. The owners are very welcoming and quick to help if you need anything. We loved our stay here. I would point out that the hob is an induction hob - made clear by the owners but not listed as such by Sykes. (People such as myself with a pacemaker cannot use this type of hob, but the owners quickly made other provision for me, So kind!)

  • "Car parking was a grassy area on the opposite side of the road which was a bit wet and messy."

This did not feel secure as the car could not be seen from the cottage. More detailed instruction for the hob would help. Containers for bread etc needed.

  • "Several issues as noted in the guest book."

On arrival fridge not switched on and ready to use. No kitchen roll or kitchen hand towel. No bread bin or board. Only one saucepan lid. Tin opener did not function correctly. No detailed recycling information. No indication of nearest local shop. Storage for provisions minimal and above the induction hob - a costly repair bill if something dropped on it. In the en suite, the hand basin/tap arrangement left pools of water on the surround. The windows could not be opened leaving the air smelling stale and dank if the door remained closed so we left the door open and the bedroom windows open to maintain fresh air. Not ideal. The shower was good and the toilet flushed well. Although the bedroom is spacious the bed was a small double. A king size bed (2 x 3ft zip linked is normal) would have been more comfortable. In the early mornings we saw fox, deer, rabbits and squirrels from the bedroom window. The Annex was warm and the settee comfortable. The oven and hob were efficient. The wifi was adequate for our needs. There were many TV channels available - a list of the numbers for BBC1, 2 and 4 would have been useful and time saving. In conclusion we would say that, although the Annexe is "bijou", it did not fulfil our expectations regardless of the glowing reviews from previous guests .

The fixtures & fittings were of a high standard & with the exception of a washing machine; we wanted for nothing! Current Covid restrictions were adhered to & we felt very safe. The annexe is located in a very quiet area but has easy access to Peterborough & other pretty villages. For us, it is close to a large geocaching series so we spent our days pounding the bridleways in pursuit of our hobby! Greatly enjoyed trips to Kings College Cambridge, Ely & Peterborough Cathedrals. Wimpole Hall and Anglesey Abbey (National Trust) properties worth visiting. Oakham, with 5 hole stocks and Rutland Water surrounded by many small picturesque unspoilt villages. On a par with the Cotswolds but without the crouds.

  • "The Cottage was excellent and the owners most helpful."

We would certainly recommend the cottage to other people. The Sykes information about where the Cottage could be found indicated that Sutton was near to the village of Nassington. This may be true as far as the crow flies but certainly not true for car journeys and you cannot walk it! Very misleading. Fortunately this did not spoil our holiday and the things we wanted to do but .... Could we suggest these details are updated on the website.

Half Acre annexe is equipped and furnished with style and good taste, and the bathroom is just lovely. There is a private sitting out area which we were unable to take advantage of at this time of year, but it would be lovely in the summer-time, as the cottage is situated in a very quiet backwater. Sally and Simon were charming hosts although we only saw them briefly due to Covid restrictions. We would happily return if in the area again, and recommend this cottage to anyone looking for quality accommodation in rural Cambridgeshire.
