  • "We really loved the house with its fantastic view."

It was clean, only the single toilet room had a lot of dust in the angles, but that was the only thing I noticed. The mattresses are very(!) soft. Bring washing powder for the washing machine (it's a good one) and the dishwasher! Parking was easy, groceries are around the corner. And Port Isaac is really lovely!!!

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Merlin's View, and the lovely scenery. However, we are sorry to hear that you encountered cleanliness issues in the W/C room. Your comments have been raised to our housekeeping team. • "We had a lovely holiday at Merlin's View and, as the name implied, the view from the back of the property was stunning."

We found the property very well equipped indoors and found all 3 beds very comfortable. Outside there were broken/un-useable sunloungers and BBQ in the garage and the woodwork on the decking needed attention. We loved the conservatory though, particularly in the evening, and the garage was really useful as parking can be an issue in Port Isaac. Overall a lovely property (if a little tired in places) and a great location!

Thank you so much for your kind words. It's great to hear that you had such a fabulous stay and had the perfect base to explore the local area from. - John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner. Property Owner

  • "Nitially the cottage looked good."

Packing at the rear of the building was ideal. Kerb appeal wasn’t exciting, needing tidying and maintaining. Rear of the property is rundown and could also be better maintained. Some of the double glazed windows had moisture between the panels. Some mould growing in the conservatory. Microwave did not work, creating a cloud of smoke when turned on. We had to supply more toilet rolls. The beds were very soft and the sofa was very uncomfortable. There wasn’t any personal touches for example: a small welcome pack containing Cornish biscuits or a small pack of coffee or tea, just something to say hi. Overall, we did enjoy our stay in an ideal location. Other rental properties in the same location were more appealing and would grab our attention for a return visit.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are pleased that your enjoyed your stay overall at Merlin's View. However, we are sorry to hear that the above points had a negative impact on your time at the property. All feedback shared with the owner and our maintenance team to look into further. • "Very comfortable and spacious house, and the view from the garden was very pretty, sadly, the weather wasn't on our side, however, sitting in the Conservatory looking through the window was great."

The drive at the front is very small, so we couldn't park our vehicle at the front of the property so we had to leave it on the road as we couldn't get access to the garage. It wasn't a big deal because there were spaces outside. The house is very well furniture could need a bit of TLC but nothing that will stop us coming back.

It was well equipped and the garage was really handy as our car was too big for the parking space at the front of the house. We loved the conservatory, it has underfloor heating for when it gets a bit chilly and the views were amazing

  • "When booking merlins view we did take on board some of the previous customers comments regarding comfort of beds, some maintenace issues etc."

, As these were historical and the owner had allegedly taken the "comments on board" we thought the issues may have been dealt with. However not so. The matress was indeed needing replacement and every single pillow in the house was lumpy and hard. The bathroom was very tight to fit in a bath with shower over and the shower screen very cumbersome. The lounge sofa and chairs were very uncomfortable. Very very low seating and slippery faux leather. Thankfully we were able to sit outside a lot. The garden and patio areas were very pleasant with great views. Just a shame there were no comfy recliner chairs to sit to relax. Kitchen was well equipped and even a washer and tumble dryer provided in utility area. We looked around for ages to find instructions how to use the oven and hob. Eventually found folder under tv. Folder would be better in the kitchen. However there were no instructions how to use the cooker. I guessed it in the end that you had to set the clock in order to switch on the oven ! Some refurbishment is overdue and the photos must have been taken quite some time ago. We had some problems parking. The garage door was not working when we arrived so we had to park at the front. Having a small car we did manage this but scraped the car in the process ! James at sykes customer help did deal with this hastily and the garage door was fixed promptly. I have to add Sykes have been fab and answered all our queries straight away.

We are sorry you encountered these issues and hope you still enjoyed your holiday. Please allow me to address these issues. The electric garage door , this was new only a couple of years ago so we hope it may have been a battery in key issue. The mattresses, We will certainly look at this, we did purchase soft mattresses from a very well known “never knowingly undersold company” as these were our preferences we are sorry they were not to your liking, the pillows will be changed upon us visiting the house in July. We will also investigate the sofas, which are leather not faux and except for beds and mattresses were purchased along with all other furniture in the house from a local reputable Wadebridge shop, we wanted to furnish the house from a local supplier.this is the first complaint re bathroom. It is a smaller bath but we found it very useful with small children to use the bath as well as the shower, guests seemed to prefer both options . There should have been sun loungers, stored in garage for guests use. We are pleased you enjoyed the outdoor seating with that spectacular view and also hope you enjoyed the conservatory with again the lovely views and comfy seating . We take great pride in our house and although live a large distance away do, on our stays try to ensure everything is in place, in good order and comfortable for our guests to enjoy their holiday and will continue to do so. We have received so many positive and glowing reviews and feedback on Merlin’s View and like to feel we have responded to any issues raised to ensure our guests thoroughly enjoy their stay and so it is of course disappointing for us you were not fully satisfied with your stay but thank you for your feedback and the issues that may need addressing will certainly be addressed. The property was spacious with everything that we needed. Fantastic base for exploring the local area and we loved Port Isaac with its eateries and shops all within walking distance. Nice extra touches such as the outside tap for rinsing wet suits and the secure garage parking. • "We booked the cottage at very late notice for a stay in March and everything was handled very nicely by Sykes."

The house itself was clean, well equipped and recently decorated. Views over the sea were excellent, particularly from the conservatory with it's heated floor, making it a very pleasant place to sit during the very stormy Saturday afternoon! The house was easy to find and we quickly came to realise the value of having our own parking space. The location was excellent - just a few minutes walk from the village centre and only two minutes walk from a small Co-op supermarket. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return. (Top tips - take a couple of extra loo-rolls with you, and a couple of extra dishwasher tablets).

Having the woodburner whilst outside it was gale force winds and heavy rain felt cosy. My only gripe personally was the bed, mattress was soft and uncomfortable and unfortunately for me struggled to sleep for the week. A modern divan bed instead of a wooden base would help.

The underfloor heating in the conservatory was very welcome too. Overall the downstairs area is comfortable and spacious The only down side (which didn’t affect us as there were just two of us) is that the one small bathroom would be difficult if 5 people stayed. Might be worth considering one big shower rather than having the small bath. We would definitely come back here again
