  • "Overall the accommodation was adequate however there were a few issues."

Firstly there were a few things that needed to be fixed, like bathroom skirting boards, light bulbs and overall the plug sockets seemed flimsy and low in power. Secondly the crockery and cutlery, was short and damaged. Only four forks for five people and the teapot was broken. Lastly and more importantly there was a mouse in the house, which freaked out a few of the guests.

Oh my goodness Mr M, so sorry you had some issues, but what a pity you didn't contact our housekeeper who lives just up the road. She would have sorted these things out for you immediately. She's baffled about what happened to the skirting boards in the bathroom which had somehow come adrift since her last visit, but got the handyman in straight away and had them fixed. We're also at a loss over the cutlery and crockery which started out in good condition and enough for five but fortunately we've now found replacements. Regarding the mouse, she could find no sign of it. It's puzzling because normally mice don't try to come indoors in the summer. Perhaps it was a field mouse that got lost? Anyway she's standing by with mouse traps just in case. Do hope that despite all you had a good time. There's so much to see and do in the area, a week's not long enough! Property Owner

  • "We had a very enjoyable break here."

The information and directions were accurate, and the instruction booklet was very handy. Didn't find the laundry room, but didn't need it anyway! TV options were limited (compared to our home setup), but spent the evenings reading or on laptop, so it didn't really matter. If planning to stay in this area again, would definitely consider the Olde Mill and recommend it to friends,

Delighted you enjoyed your stay Mr I. Do hope you're able to come back for another visit and should you need to visit the laundry room and have any difficulty, our housekeeper would be very happy to help. Property Owner

  • "The property is in a lovely location and perfect for a quiet peaceful holiday but within easy reach of the North Cornwall coast."

The accommodation was a little tired but you accept this with dog friendly accommodation. We had a few cold days during our stay and found the gas fire not working and a convector heater not working but this wasn’t a major problem as other heaters worked. The grounds that the property is in are kept very nice but the flower beds along the cottage wall were completely overgrown and neglected to the point where we had to cut back brambles growing across the front door. Overall it has great potential but is in need of attention to detail to justify the cost of rental.

So glad you enjoyed your stay Mr R though sorry to hear about the heaters not working properly. All fixed now. We have regular clear outs of the flower beds but sorry to say all the rain we've had this year is making everything grow like crazy and the weeds faster than the flowers! Property Owner

  • "Just a couple of small issues."

First was the fridge door. It needs a good shove to close it especially at the bottom of the door as we noticed the inside was becoming increasingly wet as seal not tight and the food was all wet. The shower wasn't the best regarding pressure but not sure if that's fixable. And although clean the bedding on the main bed had a real musty smell . Maybe due to how it is stored . We couldn't get the fire to work at all but we didn't need it luckily. Thank you for a lovely week at Mill Cottage The grounds are just beautiful and the cottage had more aless everything we needed .

  • "Lovely cottage with lots of space Unfortunately the cooker oven didn't work only the grill part worked ,all our frozen food was wasted, fridge door didn't close properly so ruined our food in there."

Lamps broken and some didn't work at all. Could do with a freshen up inside. Also the drain pipe wasn't connected outside so had to keep re attaching it when we used the sink. The games room was a disgrace pool balls missing and not fit for use at all had more spider's than Charlotte's Web n giant spider's to match. The smell in there was awful and you couldn't use anything. Having said all that we managed to have a good holiday and would return if updated On the plus side the beds we're very comfortable

Oh my goodness Mr B! So sorry you had all these problems but why on earth didn't you let us know or contact our housekeeper who lives just up the road on the number provided? She would have got a repair man in straight away and we would have got a replacement oven if necessary. Thank you so much for bringing these things to our attention now though. Our housekeeper is going up there immediately to see what's happened because everything seemed fine before your stay. Do hope you were able to use the microwave and hob at least, if the oven wouldn't work and we're so glad you enjoyed your holiday despite all. Unfortunately the games room is provided by the Manor House in the grounds so we don't have direct input into its maintenance but we will certainly pass your comments on to the owner. Anyway we're so glad you'd like to come back. Do hope you can make it soon and will find everything the way we like it to be.. Property Owner

  • "Lovely property in a quiet location."

Cottage was in fantastic condition and was very clean. We really enjoyed our 3 night stay. Only downside was games room facilities that need some updating (weather was poor so needed some indoor activities)

So glad you enjoyed your stay though we're very sorry the weather was unkind. Such a shame because there's so much to see and do when the sun shines. Unfortunately the games room is not managed by us but it sounds like it could do with some TLC. We'll certainly pass your comments on. If you've got any suggestions of what you'd like to find in the games room do let us know and we'll see if we can persuade the owner! And of course as long as it's not raining there's always the outdoor playfield for more boisterous games. Property Owner

The owner was very helpful with directions and advice on outings - we felt very welcome. The cottage and surounds were delightful - thank you Now that Covid restrictions are lifted it would be helpful if instructions on things like the gas log fire & where the main rubbish bins were located were available (this did not however spoil our week) The weather was great -- having a choice of the sunniest coast each day was an extra bonus

Thank you so much for your kind words. We're absolutely delighted you had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed Old Mill Cottage. Sorry all the tourist info and instructions had not yet returned to the cottage after the COVID stripping of all non essential items. We're currently hard at work on updating a big house book - as obviously after such a long time, a number of things have changed. It will be ready to greet our guests next season so we do hope you'll come back and let us know what you think! Property Owner

Perfect base for a family holiday exploring the area. Clean, tidy, nice facilities and friendly owners. Had everything we needed and beautiful surroundings. The only downside was the games room advertised is tired. The pool table wasn't available due to balls being stuck all week and the football table was extremely well used. It didn't change our view of the cottage or holiday though and we would definitely be happy to rebook.

Delighted you had a good time at Old Mill Cottage and discovered the gorgeous beach and lovely walks in the area. Unfortunately the games room doesn't belong to us - the owner allows our guests to use it during their stay but we have no input. We'll definitely have a word with him and pass on your comments though. Hopefully it will be spruced up for next season.. Property Owner

The cottage was a great base to explore Cornwall the only downside was the late check in and the early check out but cottage was lovely and clean

We're so glad you enjoyed your stay. Very sorry about the later check-ins at the moment. Most cottages in the area have had to use similar times ever since COVID to allow our housekeepers time to complete the extra rigorous cleaning required to keep everyone safe during the pandemic. Delighted though that you had a good time. There's such a lot to see and do in this very beautiful part of Cornwall - it sounds like you made the most! Property Owner

  • "So I hadn't spotted that this didn't have wifi it was only when I was reading a review about facilities that I saw it."

I think making this more on the website has since been rectified but it wasn't at the time of booking and I was hoping to work from there. Old Mill Cottage is absolutely delightful but another reviewer was right about a lack of 'items' so there are very few pieces of cutlery and it might sound trivial but things like a water jug would be handy. However, I did bring my own Nespresso machine - which is a priority for my family!! I had lovely texts from the owners about walks, and Trebarwith Strand is just the most beautiful place to see the sunset. Due to covid every pub or decent restaurant needed a reservation, which is why WIFI is needed these days. I'd also appreciate a dishwasher but that's because I'm lazy

Many thanks for your kind comments about Old Mill Cottage. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay. Sorry though about the cutlery and water jug situation. We do have more cutlery and kitchen equipment (though sadly not a coffee machine!) But unfortunately we were asked to put every non-essential item away due to the COVID-19 precautions. I suspect the things you wanted are probably in the loft along with our cushions and extensive DVD collection! These will be coming back again very soon I hope now. Regarding WiFi, this has proved complicated to arrange due to Old Mill's situation but we're working on it, and hope to be online next season. Alas we were told a dishwasher is out of the question as our water comes from an approved natural spring and we can't make any more demands from it, but we do hope the idyllic situation of Old Mill and the surrounding area makes up for the chore. Lastly, we are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the sunset from Trebarwith Strand - it's magical isn't it. Property Owner

Lots of walks on the doorstep but within a short drive to Camelford for supplies and the coast a little further on. We wouldn't hesitate to book this cottage again.

Thank you so much for your very kind comments and we're absolutely delighted you enjoyed your stay. We're biased of course but we reckon our little area of Trethin is a very special place. The walks right from the cottage door are glorious and it's so nice to have the best of both worlds - the beach in one direction and magical Bodmin Moor in the other. Then of course you can head back up the road to Camelford for fish and chips at award winning chippie Peckfish! Property Owner

  • "Despite the lovely setting and pretty decor, the cottage is very basic and lacks the substance required for a good holiday."

There is a gorgeous roll top bath for example but not enough hot water to fill it - nor enough for showers for all four of us. There’s no dishwasher and there’s nowhere to hang wet swimwear and wetsuits. There’s no reason at all for the laundry to be closed - just a simple person limit would do in covid times. There’s a letter of instruction to put everything in a bin before departure but unlike the other cottages, there isn’t a bin outside. There’s a nice bench outside to sit at but no though has been given to positioning and it stays in shadow rather than the evening sun. Finally there’s not enough glassware and it’s mismatched too. Apart from the water issue which requires investment in a new boiler, it wouldn’t take much to turn this into a lovely cottage but as it stands its far too much money to pay for what there is and we won’t be returning.

We are so sorry you didn't enjoy your stay at Old Mill Cottage as much as you'd hoped. We work really hard to try to give guests the best possible holiday so we're very disappointed that you're disappointed. It can be a bit tricky with the hot water sometimes as both the bath and the showerhead are quite large and it can take a while for the immersion heater to reheat the tank if several people have been using them. As regards the positioning of the pic-nic table to catch the evening sun, obviously the sun moves round the garden throughout the day and is also in different positions at different times of year so it's difficult to please everyone. However the table is portable so we do hope visitors will feel free to move it as they please, to suit their requirements. Regarding the laundry room, unfortunately this has been closed on the advice of the tourist board for the protection of guests during the lockdown. There should have been a notice on the door explaining this but I'm happy to say that as of 'Freedom Day' July 19th it is once again open to everyone. Finally thank you for your suggestion about somewhere to hang wet swimsuits. Hadn't thought of this before but now we're ordering an indoor/outdoor airer for just this use. It will be good for wetsuits too as we have a lot of surfers in these parts! Oh and sorry if the glasses were mismatched. Sometimes this is unavoidable if accidents happen and odd breakages have to be replaced at short notice. We're on the case though and installing new ones shortly. best wishes, Linda & Mick Property Owner

It had everything we needed (including a lovely gas log burner) and was a great base to explore the north of Cornwall from. Was also handy to have an outdoor area for the dogs. The only slight downsides were that it doesn’t have wifi and the shower/ wet room did not drain very quickly. Having said that, would definitely recommend and return!

  • "The cottage was fab lovely location and generally clean and very comfortable."

The bathroom was lovely particularly the bath. The only issues were the kettle didn't work kept cutting out the wooden work surface in the kitchen was very sticky which wasn't nice although we ate out mostly as were were there for a short period and the bin in the garden absolutely STANK which was horrible every time you walked past to get to the car. Small points but needs addressing.

  • "The cottage was exactly as pictured, had comfortable beds and was clean."

The gas stove means you can warm the living area up within minutes and there was seating both inside and outside. All games and dvds have been removed due to Covid so you need to take your own (that is mentioned in the pre-holiday information). It's amongst a few other cottages but it was very quiet when we stayed. The cottage is located in the remote rural village of Trethin, with walks from the door, and is a great base to drive to a number of costal resorts (Polzeath, Summerleaze, Daymer Bay were our favourites). The place does smell a bit damp and the kitchen is under-equipped (possibly they've removed to much due to Covid or just don't think people want to cook on holiday) - really could do with providing some serving dishes and serving spoons, a fine mesh sieve, a decent chopping knife and more tea-towels. That's said, we would happily return to this lovely holiday let.

  • "This is the third time we have stayed at Old Mill Cottage and as previously had an excellent holiday."

The cottage is situated with others set in lovely gardens at Trethin and the hydrangeas were in flower this time and looked fantastic. It is a quiet location and a drive to the nearest beach (although not that far) so not for those looking for a high octane beach holiday but ideal for those looking for a quieter holiday and want to enjoy the countryside and walking. The Old Mill is an ideal base with all the necessary facilities and comforts - we really like it and so did our dogs and granddaughter who learnt how to walk during our stay.

  • "What a pleasant surprise."

This was a last minute booking and we are always wary of booking new places but the old mill cottage was a little gem tucked away in a part of cornwall that we have visited hundreds of times over the last 30 years but have not stumbled across. Beautiful cottage, beautiful grounds. Good facilities. Everything we needed for a fantastic Easter break. Unfortunately as we were out enjoying ourselves for most of the time due to the lovely weather we were unable to meet the owners but would like to pass on our thanks for allowing us to stay. The only thing that stopped it being 10/10 all around was the lack of wifi which is always useful for planning visits if staying longer and lack of it's own washing machine which wasn't a problem this time but may be a problem for longer stays. Other than that everything was great thanks again
