  • "The cottage was lovely and very clean."

Nice to have tea, milk, biscuits, dishwasher tablet etc on arrival. We would have liked a couple of comfy outdoor chairs to enjoy sitting outside with a glass of wine, there were two sun loungers but they were too low for us to use. Just a thought as a slight improvement for the future. Also we did put our recycling in the boxes provided but no info as to when we needed to put them out for collection. All in all a great cottage.

Plenty of space for the two of us. The only minor issue was that I could not find an electric shaver socket in the bathroom. However, that did not significantly detract from an most enjoyable stay.

The cottage had everything we needed and was clean, comfy & well equipped. We found a lovely walk from the cottage down by the stream and back around into the village. So very peaceful & an ideal base for both North & South coast.

  • "This is a beautifully presented and comfortable holiday home with everything we needed internally for a fantastic stay."

Unfortunately we have a large vehicle and found the access and parking to be very tight. A standard car would be fine and this was our only issue for what was otherwise a great property.

Property was very well presented, clean and tidy. Everything you needed was provided, including a welcome basket of goodies. The local pub (Cornish Arms) provides excellent food for eat in and provide a take away service of full menu, they certainly don't skrimp on potion sizes. Overall a lovely place for a holiday or weekend break. Thank you for a great place would have no worries recommending, definitely a 5 star award.

  • "Partially enclosed garden leading to a road and field ."

. advert says enclosed garden . Not suitable for dogs and it spoilt our holiday. Skye’s and the owner were not interested . How can you say enclosed garden when only two sides are fenced . We asked to move and they told us to keep the dogs to the bottom part of the garden and keep them under control !!! We paid for a enclosed garden so the dogs could have a holiday too . We will not use this company again

  • "Fabulous holiday cottage."

Had everything we needed, location was perfect and outside space was perfect for our 2 young children and dog. We requested a travel cot and highchair during our stay and they weren't there when we arrived. But a quick call to the owners and he soon arrived with both, the highchair was brand new as he wanted to get us one quickly after a long day travelling and the one he usually provides was at another cottage which would have taken him longer to collect. Absolutely faultless owners and cottage, would 100% return

  • "The property was clean, comfortable, warm and modern."

There were some VERY minor niggles in terms of missing bits and pieces of household equipment which could be easily solved if the owners lived there for two or three days. The 'enclosed' garden would not keep in any self respecting dog, unless perhaps it had a couple of wooden legs! Nevertheless recommended

  • "We had a fantastic two weeks in Chycoose Barn in September."

Everything was spotlessly clean and comfortable, with a delicious welcome pack. Chycoose Barn is situated in an ideal central location with beaches and attractions within a fairly short drive. We spent most days visiting the many dog friendly beaches within a 30 minute drive and, other than multiple visits to Perranporth, it was a different beach every day for Barkley to explore. We were very lucky with the weather and after our days at the beach it was so relaxing to sit in the garden as the sun was going down. The garden was perfect for our very energetic Labrador "Barkley" to run around and explore safely. The kitchen was well equipped and included a Tassimo coffee maker which was certainly welcome. The beds were very comfortable and I actually had the best nights sleep for some years. Thank you Lee-Anne for a wonderful relaxing holiday.

  • "Just returned from a lovely relaxing week at the fantastic Chycoose Barn."

The property is in a great location to explore this area of Cornwall and sits in a peaceful, rural location with large garden/grounds safe for our two mini dachshunds to have a lot of fun! We were welcomed with a fab goodies pack and the property was spotlessly clean throughout, this is something important to us. Chycoose is spacious with a high spec kitchen with excellent appliances, a large lounge area with a big smart TV and the bedrooms/bathroom were clean and comfortable throughout. Chycoose has facilities and equipment to cater for every need and we would definitely rebook when next staying in the area. In our opinion, ignore previous negative reviews, so many positives about this property and you won’t be disappointed if you book a stay here.

  • "This house is GORGEOUS!"

Perfect tranquil location, sparkling clean, and beautifully furnished throughout with good quality furniture - my daughter wants the exact same sofa on her own house! We slept soundly all week in the comfy beds with no noise as mentioned in previous reviews. We are told that the beds have new mattresses. There was a slight ‘new glue’ smell from the wardrobe in the main bedroom but this was fine after we left the wardrobe doors open a few days to air it. The owners had clearly tried to think of everything to make our stay as perfect as possible, including arrival pack of Cornish goodies, pod coffee/hot chocolate maker, hairdryer, shaver socket etc. The outdoor space has a lovely big wooden picnic/dining table & BBQ (with coals & lighters,) sun loungers etc. - all of which we put to good use - but sitting in the lounge with the big sliding doors open to the patio & garden / countryside beyond was equally relaxing. We could also rest assured that our little dog was safely contained in the well-walled & gated area around the house. There was also a lovely little walk with waterfalls along the stream accessed by turning right out of the drive then following the public footpath signs left. The rural location was a relief from the hustle and bustle of the coastal towns. We felt miles from anywhere but were within easy reach of Truro, Falmouth & south coast beaches as well as St.Ives & Newquay beaches on the North coast. We found the location to be fairly central for Cornwall in general & most places could be reached in around an hour, including Lands End, Minack Theatre & the Eden Project. We also took advantage of the Quad-biking in nearby Truro, as well as the off-road coast-to-coast bike ride along the old tin mining trails, with bikes hired from nearby Bissoe, less than a mile away. Thank you!

  • "Negatives: Cheap and uncomfortable furniture."

Awful smell from the wardrobe in the main bedroom. Squeaking from the cheap bedstead whenever we moved - kept us awake. Sykes rating is 5 star - this is not accurate in our opinion Positives: nice location away from the madness, nice new modern building with plenty of space.

  • "The barn is in a lovely location and was very clean on arrival, this is where the positives end."

Sadly everything in the barn has been done with a low budget in mind, so hence you are not getting 5 stars. The beds in particular were very poor quality and I dread to think how they will end up by the end of the holiday season! If you want 5 stars-this isn’t it, look elsewhere.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you felt the property did not meet 5 stars, the pictures on the website show the property as it is. We have discussed your comments with the owners who have confirmed that all of the furniture is brand new and of good quality. Due to the global pandemic, mattresses for the beds were difficult to source, so deluxe semi orthopedic mattresses were purchased. However, these will be replaced and 1000 pocket sprung mattresses have been ordered for the single beds and a 1000 pocket memory foam mattress for the master bed. Property Owner

Thank you for your feedback. We hope you had a lovely time at Chycoose Barn and we are sorry to hear you found the beds to be uncomfortable. Mattresses preferences tend to be pretty personal but we have forwarded you feedback to the owners. For the cutlery and utensils we'll make sure more are added to the property. The property

Nestled on the outskirts of the pretty village of Cusgarne, with easy access to the coastal resort of Falmouth, Cornwall, is this handsome detached farmhouse, Chycoose Barn.

Set in a picturesque location beside an orchard and private meadow, Chycoose Barn is a tranquil and homely setting for your next escape to Cornwall.

A gravel driveway greets you upon arrival at the property, offering three sought-after parking spaces, making it easy to park up and enjoy a day exploring the area on foot.

As you enter the property you're welcomed by a cloakroom with a washbasin and WC and a handy utility area featuring ample storage space as well as a washing machine, offering a convenient place to wipe off any sandy toes or muddy paws and freshen up your wardrobe before continuing through to the living areas.

The designated chef will be delighted with the spacious galley-style kitchen, beautifully appointed with gleaming fittings and a contemporary design, with a dining table positioned in the center of the room, providing the perfect place to socialize with your loved ones as you tuck into a heart-warming meal.

In the warmer months, head outside to enjoy a spot of alfresco dining on the patio, where you're enveloped in the picturesque scenery of the surrounding countryside and the neighbouring orchard and meadow, both of which are exclusive for your use during your stay.

Head back inside and gather the group in the sitting room, leaving the patio doors open to invite a calming breeze indoors, and nestle in on one of the plush sofas to enjoy a movie night together.

After an adventure-filled day, climb the stairs and prepare for bed in the family bathroom, fitted with a bath as well as an overhead shower, so you're able to decide between enjoying a leisurely soak or washing away the day.

Rest your head in one of the three bedrooms, choosing either the double with king size bed, twin or single, all thoughtfully presented with a light and airy décor and offering dreamy views across the countryside.

Take the short stroll into the village of Cusgarne for a traditional Cornish delicacy from the local family run bakers, Pete's pasties, followed by a wander around Bissoe Valley Nature Reserve, once a mining site and now a nature reserve homing woodland, ponds and colonies of butterflies.

Avid cyclists can enjoy a welcome pitstop at Bike Chain Bissoe, where adult bike hire is available, and refuel with an energizing cup of coffee or a spot of locally-sourced food before embarking on one of the exciting Mineral Tramway Trails nearby.

Pack up the car and head to the coast for a fun-filled day out at the seaside town of Falmouth, home to miles of golden sandy beaches stretching along the coastline, including the Blue Flag award winning Gyllyngvase beach, the largest in the town and offering a great place to experience water-sports whilst you soak in the panoramic views.

The town has a host of local history to discover at The National Maritime Museum Cornwall as well as a number of pubs, trendy bars and world-class restaurants along the promenade where you can enjoy a refreshing drink or a bite to eat with a captivating view across the water.

Alternatively, why not visit the vibrant Cornish locations of Porthtowan, Portreath, Truro, St Ives, and the awe-inspiring Lizard Peninsula slightly further afield.

Whether you plan to explore the countryside or the coast, Chycoose Barn is the perfect base for your next getaway to Cornwall!

About the location

ST DAY

Porthtowan 5 miles; Portreath 6 miles; Truro 7 miles; St Ives 20 miles; Falmouth 10 miles.

St Day was once the mining centre for mid-Cornwall until nearby Redruth took over the title, and you can still see the terraces of granite cottages originally built for the miners. The village was originally named after the little known Saint Day or Dye (better known in Brittany). The village now has a pub and convenience store, as well as a granite, gothic-style church dating back to 1828. Six miles away is the popular village of Portreath which attracts visitors from around the world with its wild and rugged coastline. High cliffs, secluded coves and sandy, surf-washed beaches typify the area while all around are reminders of the area's rich industrial heritage. Portreath offers a small fishing harbour, shops, a number of pubs, three cafés and a Chinese restaurant, while its safe, sheltered sandy beach is a popular attraction. For a great day out, visit the cathedral city of Truro with its cobbled streets, shopping centre, theatre, museum and great restaurants, just 7 miles away, or travel a few miles along the coast and follow the vast expanse of sandy beach, which leads down to Hayle and on to St Ives. A delightful holiday location.
