  • "The two sofas and armchair are in need of restuffing."

The seat cushions are very flat so making the seating very low and very uncomfortable. We’ve stayed in rack of these cottages before over 25 years and it’s probably time for a refresh of the seating.

  • "Great cottage in a lovely setting."

Ideal for a quiet retreat, no traffic noise and really fresh air to breathe. Bit of a trip to nearest supermarket down narrow Cornish roads, but soon got used to that. Loads of places to visit in the area The dog enjoyed it too. (Would have liked a bath mat in the shower )

It is pretty and unique. It has all the facilities required to make a good self catering holiday. Kitchen well equipped. We were 2 friends and a Border Collie who loved her 1st holiday. It was lovely and safe for her, no traffic to worry about. Location was good, easy to find and well placed for any days out. We would come back. And would recommend.

Ideally placed for North and south coast as well as the moors. It was a real bonus to have an ev charger because it freed us up to enjoy each day without having to think about where to charge our all electric car.

We have already booked again for next year! The house is gorgeous, the grounds are just beautiful and you’re in the perfect spot to travel to either the south or north shore and to visit all the bigger local attractions. Can’t recommend it enough!

Glad you enjoyed your visit. We have made significant improvements to the cottage over the last few years. I hope you discovered the unusual Victorian water garden which we are in the process of restoring. There is a grotto, a secret tunnel, an ancient holy well and a wildlife pond. Property Owner

We had booked to stay in Dick Cottage but were offered the bigger cottage Tom and accepted. The cottage was very comfortable and the setting very quiet and peaceful. There was a swing outside that the kids loved playing on. We even got greeted by sheep in the garden one morning.

The position of the cottage was pleasant and peaceful. Kitchen well stocked. Smart tv excellent which pleased us immensely as we could watch our programmes from our hard drive. I enjoyed the variety of birds that could be seen and heard around the estate. Only one thing very minor no facility for depositing the dog poo and felt uncomfortable putting it in the ordinary refuse bin. Otherwise we loved our holiday there and might return in the near future.

Stayed in all three over the last decade or so. My only suggestion for improvement this time concerns the sofa and armchairs. Their seat cushions are getting very flat which means we were sitting very low. I suggest the seat cushions are re stuffed so the two sofas and arm chair are comfier to sit in.

  • "Dick cottage was a wonderful place to stay with everything a family could need and with very accommodating hosts."

The delights of Cornwall are easily accessible and Bodmin provided us with a lot of interesting things to do. I would highly recommend the cottage (and my wife has all ready done so, to Her family). For the owners, I have only 2 minor areas which could be improved upon. 1. Applying some sort of frosting or a one way mirrored film to the window in the bathroom would allow daylight in and maintain privacy. and 2. The dining room table was difficult to sit at if you are tall, I was unable to sit at the table and fit my legs under as well. I realise few people are more than 6’4’’ but a different kitchen/dining room table would make for more comfortable meal times.

Thank you for your feedback. Your comments have been passed onto the owner. There is a blind in the bathroom when needed for privacy. Property Owner

  • "The artwork in the cottage is very eclectic and dated and could do with being refreshed, I appreciated its down to personal taste but maybe some pictures of Cornish landmarks or landscapes?"

The bathroom could do with an extractor fan fitted to reduce condensation when using the shower. I’m not meaning to be critical here just making suggestions, on the whole we were very pleased with the cottage and had a very pleasant stay. We like to think we will return in the future and have no hesitation recommending to others.

Thank you for your feedback. Since your stay, a whole lot of new pictures have been put in. Thanks for your suggestion. Property Owner

  • "We have been going to all three cottages for some time."

I would say given the high costs of fuel these cottages are now over priced based on their location. On this occasion there were students booked into the neighbouring cottage we were not made aware of this and the sound of violins, piano amongst other instruments was constant. Whilst we did not mind the music it could be problematic for a lot of people who are just after the peace and quiet. All paying customers need to be made aware if music students are staying so they can make the decision if this for them or not.

Thanks for your feedback. We're sorry you were disturbed by the music. Very occasionally we do invite music students to Lavethan, as part of our plan is to support and encourage young musicians, especially those from the South West. We try to make sure that any disturbance to other guests is kept to a minimum and we apologise if on this occasion we fell short. We will be more careful in future! Property Owner

Not the best experience think it is overpriced for where it is. The less impressive of the three cottages.

Thank you for taking the time to complete the feedback request, following your recent stay at Dick Cottage. We have spoken with the owner who has apologised that your stay was affected by a mouse, there have been no previous sightings but unfortunately is one of the hazards of visiting the countryide! The affected area has been thoroughly cleared and there has been no further visits from said mouse. Dick Cottage is indeed smaller than the other 2 properties, many guests have found it cozy and welcoming. We hope to welcome you back to Blisland once again in the future. Property Owner

Pub and village shop, people make you very welcome food at amenities were very good! Our only criticism is its not quite Dog friendly would have liked garden secure at one end to enable us to let our dog have freedom had to always be on the lead ! Otherwise a very nice stay clean cottage was made very welcome and close to all attractions.

Many thanks for your feedback, we are glad you enjoyed your stay at Dick Cottage. Around the property there is immediate access to beautiful dog friendly walks. We feel it would detract from the character of the beautiful gardens to fence them in completely. Understandably some care has to be taken when there are sheep and lambs in the adjacent fields. About the location

BLISLAND

Bodmin 5.7 miles; Wadebridge 8.4 miles; Polzeath 13.2 miles; Tintagel 13.8 miles; Padstow 16 miles; Fowey 17.2 miles.

Situated under the western edge of granite-bound Bodmin Moor, the village of Blisland retains its age old character and is the only village in Cornwall to have a village green with trees. Around the green, cluster old houses and cottages, as well as the famous, award-winning Blisland Inn. The village is located less than three miles from the A30, and so provides an ideal central location for touring Cornwall. Nearby, Poley’s Bridge marks the beginning of the Camel Trail, a 17-mile long route, which follows a long disused old steam engine railway line to Padstow. The route is completely traffic-free and perfect for walkers and cyclists. You can even explore the trail on horseback and a purpose-built hide has been constructed between Wadebridge and Padstow, so even birdwatchers are catered for! Pull on your walking boots and explore Bodmin Moor, or venture to the coast with your buckets and spades and enjoy a day on one of the many beautiful beaches that stretch along Cornwall’s northern coastline. A fabulous part of the country for all!

Note: No pets between 20th July and 31st August.
