  • "First impressions very good – excellent location, just right for the two of us."

Very clean and tidy and the welcome box and drinks in the fridge a real bonus. (could have done with some tumblers or larger glasses for squash or beer – largest glass was a wine glass) However when going on the balcony or looking through the downstairs window we were confronted with scaffolding which blocked the view to the sea. The view although limited was one of the main attractions of the property. It then became worse the next morning when a workman was on the same level as the balcony painting and playing his radio. Very obtrusive. It got worse again when early one morning he started up a power washer to clean the outside in preparation for further painting. This put pay to having a peaceful breakfast on the balcony enjoying the sea view. I sent several messages you about this situation and sent photos, but your response was totally inadequate throughout. Surely one of your maintenance people or the cleaner would have been aware of what was going on so you should have at least given us some prior notice. The other major issue was the television and free sat box. The instructions were inadequate and try as I may we could not get the free sat to work to enable us to watch terrestrial TV. In the end I had to log into my iPlayer account to at least watch BBC programmes. Eventually you offered a maintenance person to come out but by that time it was just not worth it. Decent instructions may well have solved this issue. I would suggest that the file needs updating with more detailed instructions and information. We did enjoy our stay at The Loft but not being able to use the balcony was a major issue to us and I feel that your responses to our messages were inadequate and did not address the problem. From your records you will see that we have booked a number of times with Sykes and have been very happy but on this occasion you have fallen well below your usual high standards.

  • "We had an amazing holiday in The Loft."

The attention to detail did not go unnoticed. It was spotlessly clean and the owners clearly take pride in the accommodation they offer. We have family in Porthleven so this is perfect for us. We will definitely be back. Thank you for having us.

  • "The Loft is a lovely comfortable bolt hole for two with lovely views over Porthleven."

We had a relaxing stay and the weather was fabulous for January. There is pretty much everything you need in The loft and the bed is super comfortable with lovely pillows. We loved the shoe storage cabinet in the lounge - it’s super handy. Thank you for the treats on arrival and for providing the kitchen cleaning essentials- we really appreciated it. It is quite a steep walk up the hill to The Loft so it would not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues. Unfortunately the shower decided to break down during our stay but Sykes were amazing and a new shower was installed within 24 hours. The bathroom window also does not open which we reported as this will be a problem as mould is beginning to appear on the bathroom walls. Storage for clothes is very limited but we managed fine for the week and made use of the under bed draws for additional storage. One useful addition would be a clothes dryer for winter months as we found it difficult to dry bath towels as this isn’t possible on the tiny towel rail. All that said, we loved The Loft and had a really lovely stay and will definitely return again.

Thank you for taking to leave feedback on your stay at The Loft. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at the property and would like to return. The bathroom window has now been repaired. We hope to welcome you back to The Loft soon! Property Owner

About the location

PORTHLEVEN

Helston 3 miles; Penzance 10 miles; Hayle 11 miles; St. Ives 17 miles; Falmouth 17.5 miles.

Porthleven is one of south west Cornwall’s hidden, coastal gems, located near Helston, famous for it's annual Flora Dance Festival. Situated between Lizard Point and Land’s End, Porthleven retains the feel of a traditional Cornish fishing village, enjoying uninterrupted views of the Atlantic Ocean and the beautiful Cornish coastline. The iconic clock tower sits on the harbour entrance and the pubs, shops, cafés and restaurants cluster around the historic picturesque inner harbour, where there is plenty of boating and marine activity. With a warren of streets lined with classic Cornish, granite cottages, an extensive beach manned with lifeguards, the chance for alfresco dining in one of a number of well reviewed restaurants, and crabbing off the harbour, there are plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy, all year round. Porthleven is building a reputation for eating out with a popular food festival established in the spring. Out of season, Porthleven has one of the best surf breaks in the country where you can sit down and get lost for hours watching the energetic surfers riding the waves. There are some fabulous hidden coves along this stretch of coastline, including Praa Sands, Poldhu Cove, and Rinsey, a magical setting for the more energetic. You may have even seen pictures of Porthleven on television, being one of the best spots in the UK for storm watching, with the crashing winter waves often being used as the backdrop to weather forecasts. Walkers will enjoy the South West Coast Path, adventuring west past Rinsey Head with spectacular views, or south across Loe Bar to Penrose Estate with it's National Trust cafe, and on to Gunwalloe Church Cove. Take a trip to the Isles of Scilly by boat or plane and marvel at the display of sub-tropical gardens at the stunning Tresco Abbey. The Eden Project near St. Austell offers an interesting day out. Porthleven is the ideal base for discovering the delights of west Cornwall and the Lizard Peninsula.
