Yes it is a trek to the property, but it is so worth it. Thanks Adrian and Sue. From Andy, Anita, John & Julie

  • "Postcard Lodge was all we wanted from a holiday cottage."

Fantastic views, amazing house so well layed out with everything you could ever need. The quality of everything was second to none. Yes it is a climb up to the house but this is Cornwall and most villages this old are like this but dont be put off by that the views from most angles of the house are worth that climb. We had a very enjoyable holiday and would certainly come back to Postcard Lodge. Thanks also to Adrian our host who was very helpful throughout our stay

  • "We had a lovely time at Postcard Lodge but unfortunately for us Polruan and accommodation was far too hilly."

The thought of going out and climbing back up the hills put us off going out sometime. Also not really suitable for young children because of stairs to kitchen. We still spent lovely time in Hot Tub and went to Fowey a few times.

  • "The description of how to drive as close as possible to the property was useful, but it would have been very helpful to have a description of where to walk once we got to the top of School Lane."

It took us ages to find Postcard Lodge, looking about in every direction. We found the stone stairs between the kitchen and the lounge area treacherous, since they are black and stony, and twice nearly tumbled it down them. As nice as the open plan room is, taking the chrome rail across the top of the steps to leave a smaller gap may prevent a serious injury to a guest in the future, and we highly recommend it. All that said we loved Postcard Lodge! It was a superb venue for our nuptials.

  • "Postcard lodge was a dreamy Cornish getaway, we loved everything about our weeks stay here - The luxury living space, the hot tub with an amazing view, the spacious bedrooms (with the added bonus of comfortable mattresses) and the social living and kitchen area."

Everything about this property was well thought out and planned, the kitchen was one of the most well stocked holiday homes we’ve been to. There is plenty of bathrooms for everyone, the owners have really outdone themselves in terms of quality holiday provision. Like previous reviews have mentioned you don’t get car access to the front of the property but this in no way should put you off, it’s definitely some extra effort when arriving and leaving but it certainly added a little adventure to our half term break and gave us a laugh when we arrived in the dark. We travelled as a party of seven - four adults and three teenagers and there was plenty of space for us all. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring this side of Cornwall and having postcard lodge as our base was a real treat.

  • "This is a superbly appointed property which affords excellent accommodation for up to 8 adults."

The property is high spec with top of the range white goods, all fairly new, two kitchens, and lots of quality touches like the movement activated night lights integral to the bathrooms, which are well designed with excellent showers and one bath on the ground floor. The master bedroom has superb views over to Fowey through the balcony doors. We did not use the BBQ but again its a top of the range Webber BBQ, we did use the hot tub which had easy to operate instructions and plenty of room for all with good outside lighting. Polruan itself is small but has two friendly pubs, and the Lugger does food all day, nice breakfast. There is a local store which stocks all the essentials and a bakery, and a cafe which serves food, the Russell Inn were happy for food purchased in the cafe to be eaten in the pub as they are under common ownership. The foot passenger ferry works really well providing swift easy access to Fowey, be sure to check times of the last one back. The car ferry further up is also easy to use but possibly more challenging in the busier months. Access to Polruan is challenging the local roads are very narrow and we preferred to loop into town staying on the B3359 towards Polperro and then taking the local roads as late as possible. Polruan is effectively pedestrianised and it is not possible to get a vehicle up to the property so unloading and loading may take a little time especially as the town is on a steep slope which gives great views but means you are walking up (or down) each trip. There are then 14 steps when you get to the property. Despite arrival and departure requiring a little thought and some effort the benefit of enjoying the luxurious accommodation once settled more than made up for the effort. The car park at the top was £30 for 7 days if aid in advance and you can pay by card. We enjoyed our stay very much and will return.

  • "Postcard Lodge certainly lives up to its name - the views are spectacular."

As was the property. Everything was high quality and the level of cleanliness superb. The only issue to be aware of, as many others have mentioned, is the steepness of the streets and the stairs up to the property. But we managed fine with a retinue aged from 3 months to 60. The property owner was also really helpful. I have no hesitation in recommending Postcard Lodge.

  • "Beautiful property, well equipped, they have thought of everything."

Fabulous views and lovely outdoor space with the hot tub an added bonus. Great places to visit, Fowey and Polperro definitely worth visiting and hiring a boat to go up river is great fun. Pack wisely, the trip up and down from the carpark with your luggage is not for the faint hearted.

  • "WOW, Postcard Lodge is 5 star luxury home."

We have recently stayed at the property, 6 adults, a baby and a small dog visiting friends who live in beautiful Fowey. It’s an immaculate property with amazing views and facilities. The owners really have thought of everything you would need for your stay. Parking is at the top of Polruan at a cost of £30 per week and yes, as previous previous reviews have mentioned access to the property is a little hilly however the property with its stunning views and facilities are worth the little extra effort. Polruan itself is a gorgeous little fishing village with 2 pubs, a bakery and a little store stocked with things you may have forgotten - we had a Sainsbury’s delivery the day we arrived. We ate at the Lugger pub, delicious food. We also had a takeout of fish and chips one evening from there which we ate on our beautiful sunny patio. The Russell pub has quiz nights a few times a week which we thoroughly enjoyed. The ferry crossing to Fowey is idyllic, day & night. Its costs £5.60 for a return and runs from 7am to 11pm. At Fowey we ate at the Pintxo tapas bar, the Haveners (pub grub), the Harbour Hotel (fine dining) and the Indian restaurant. We would highly recommend all of them. We travelled to Looe, Polperro and St Ives, all of which are beautiful places however we were always pleased to get back home to our idyllic village of Polruan. Overall we had a fabulous holiday and would highly recommend Postcard Lodge - it’s what Cornish holiday dreams are made of. We’ll definitely be back!

! The most beautiful house in a most spectacular location. The only issue was the climb to get to the house but that gave us an excuse to eat even more of the local delicacies! We certainly left fitter. Facilities were excellent and we have never been to a holiday home that was so well equipped with literally everything you could need. The Lugger Inn down the hill was a fabulous pub and the little ferry to Fowey was so easy to use giving us even more choice of places to eat. We loved everything!!!

  • "What a property and what a view!"

The finish of this property is exceptional. There certainly has been no expense spared. The surprise extra of a kitchen upstairs close to the outside hot tub is a genius edition. The views are incredible from the kitchen, master bedroom and outside spaces looking to Fowey. Sadly though this property is not suitable if you have mobility issues. Both directions are steep and you can’t park particularly close to load/unload the car before dropping it to the car park. We stayed for a week, two families totally 8, plenty of space for us all and the children. Bedrooms were massive, bathrooms luxurious and spacious, games room for the kids. Hot tub for us adults! We were very lucky with the weather and often took the Fowey ferry taxi, return for a family of 5 was £21 and 3 was approx £13.20 Lovely owners - very helpful. In terms of rating this has five star quality property and views. Thank you

About the location

POLRUAN

Polperro 6.5 miles; Looe 10 miles; Lostwithiel 10 miles.

Polruan is a small fishing village situated on a steep hill on the Fowey estuary, made famous by the author Daphne du Maurier. It remains unspoilt and retains the atmosphere of an old boat building community and has a small beach. The Polruan chain tower known as Polruan Blockhouse is one of only five known to exist in England, and is a small structure built beside a river or harbour to house the mechanism for raising and lowering a defensive chain to prevent the passage of ships in times of danger. It and the chain tower on the opposite bank of the River Fowey are the earliest chain towers to have been constructed. The village has a Post Office, local store, gift shop and pubs. A five minute ferry ride will take you to Fowey, with a range of sophisticated shops and restaurants. In August, the Fowey Regatta is a fun-filled week of activities and events, including RNLI displays, a carnival, spectacular firework displays and a display of classic yachts.
