  • "Overall we were so pleased with our stay at the lodge."

Great location for the beech, super quiet and great views over to Plymouth. The inside of the lodge was great, excellent facilities and everything provided so 5*. If I was to raise anything it would be the decking area could do with a bit of TLC. This is in no way criticism but more feedback on what if anything could make the stay complete. Great value, great location, great facilities and the weather was with us also. Will be back!!!!

I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay. We didn't have the opportunity for regular maintenance on the decking this year as the spring weather was against us. Property Owner

Very clean and tidy on arrival. Fresh bottle of milk in the fridge on arrival and tea bags, sugar, salt, pepper, vinegar and sauces. Ideal if anything was forgotten. Neighbours were polite and friendly. All good. Will look to return next year.

Other than that the lodge was great.

I'm so sorry you found the bed uncomfortable as, this season , we have invested in a new, good quality mattress. It was difficult decision between firm and soft - I hope we haven't made a bad decision Property Owner

  • "A lovely place to stay."

Quiet, beautiful views, easy access. The whole lodge had everything you need. A glass for every type of drink, plenty of crockery, cooking pans etc. The lodge was lovely and clean, smelt nice and was so open and spacious. A few of the full time neighbour's were friendly and stopped to chat. Beautiful places to visit nearby. We only came over from Plymouth but it felt like we were 'holidaying' for sure. Would stay again and recommend the loge as a place to stay. There are trolleys available to move your belongings from your car. There is a slope down to the lodge but it's easy ish to navigate. The great thing is no vehicles driving past your accommodation. Private and quiet.

I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for your lovely comments Property Owner

  • "The lodge itself was lovely home from home ."

Although we knew we would have to leave our car in the carpark and walk to the lodge we didn't realise just how far and a steep slope too. We are in our 70s and did struggle getting the our luggage in and out , shame really because we loved the lodge but wouldn't go again.

I'm sorry you struggled with your luggage, I appreciate the path is steep, however we enjoy the area being pedestrianised so there is no disturbance from vehicle lights and noise. I have confirmed with the park management, who have motorised buggies, that if our guests are struggling with luggage transfer they can request assistance at reception. This would only be available between 9-4pm, and providing staff are available. Property Owner

  • "Bed in main bedroom very uncomfortable."

It wa not pointed out that the lodge was approached down a steep slope with no vehicular access and the car had to be unloaded and loaded using a barrow which was very difficult to pull up the slope. People with walking difficulties would find getting around the site very difficult.

I'm sorry you found the bed uncomfortable, after a busy season we will replace the mattress this winter. We do state in our description that the chalet area is pedestrianised, and the car park is at the top of a sloping path, therefore is not suitable for visitors with limited mobility, I apologise if this description was insufficient for you Property Owner

  • "Only downside it was a bit of a pain transporting the luggage down to the lodge."

As it was down a gravel path of about a 100 meters. Luckily we had taken a collapsible trolley truck but still has to make 3 trips on arrival and departure. The complex has electric golf type trollies outside reception but presumably for booking made through Whitesand bay holiday park. Ours was privitaley owned but we were offered there luggage trolleys. The view from the Lodge patio deck was amazing looking over Plymouth sound and rolling hills. The only sounds we could hear came from sheep on the hillside, birds and the wind. It was quite breezy for all of our 5 night stay. But welcoming in the hot sunshine. We could not fault the lodge as it had everything one needed for a home away holiday. The owner catered for a pleasant stay with milk tea and coffee in the fridge and cupboards. The park facilities were good with a pub and restaurant. Although as it was early session the pub and restaurant closed at 20:30 during the week. We enjoyed a plentiful lovely Sunday lunch on the patio outside the restaurant. There was a pool opposite but didn't use on this occasion. There wasn't a shop on the park but don't know if there is one in high season. The nearest shop was a few miles away in Millbrook down narrow precarious country lanes. The nearest major supermarket was Sainsbury's in Torpoint about a 20 minute drive also down narrow lanes until you reached wider B roads. I did a major shop there the day after our arrival. So we had enough supplies for a few days. After a day out to Perrenporth we topped up at Tesco Extra in nearby Plymouth. We came back to Cornwall on the Torpoint ferry, not to be missed. There are some wonderful places to visit nearby like Cawsand and Kingsand villages next to each other with charming streets houses an little sandy bays. A visit to Mount Edgcumbe House and gardens is highly recommended. A walk down through the park takes you down to the shores of Plymouth Sound where you can watch the boats and ships sail in and out. Pont Avon departed to Santander while I was there. There's also a foot ferry from there across to Plymouth. An enchanting pub to the left of the lower entrance gates. I can't wait to go back to the lodge to explore beautiful Cornwall Futher!

Really appreciated the milk and coconut cakes on arrival. So close to beaches local towns/villages. Looe is definitely worth a visit for great fish and chips and ice cream. Also can buy looe gin. The only reason I didn't give full marks is because the oven needs replacing, it took 2 hours to cook a meal which should take an hour and still the roasted potatoes were still hard. It just doesn't do the job and get up to temperature. Also the extractor fan in the main bathroom needs replacing as it did not work.

  • "The lodge was amazing."

The views were stunning. We would love to go back again. The only bit of downside to it was even though we could not park our car outside the lodge which we accepted , what we didn’t know is it we had to carry all our luggage etc from the car park down to the lodge which is quite a hike unfortunately the owners of the site seem to have a bit of an attitude towards privately owned lodges as they had Electric vehicles which they could’ve taken our luggage down, but it was a no , also, if you come in 2 cars you have to pay an extra £35 a week . I’m sorry owners, but I think you need to pay a bit of tension on the crockery as we found the dishes was still dirty. No doubt not cleaned properly from dishwasher also had to retrieve items from under the settee could do with being hoovered. We are looking forward to going back again because we had such a great time , don’t be put off by what I’ve just said as it’s only really trivial, but I felt as though I should mention it ,happy holidays .

Thank you for your feedback, we're glad you enjoyed your stay. I'm sorry the site owners were unhelpful, there should be trolleys available in the car park to assist you transferring your luggage. I appreciate there is a steep access path but it does mean there is no vehicle noise or nuisance around the lodges. I note your comments on the cleanliness and will make sure we are more vigilant in future Property Owner

  • "The lodge was in a ideal location for exploring Plymouth and the Cornish coast."

The bed felt it was ready for a refresh and did not support my back, this aside we had a lovely relaxing week. The lodge is a ideal location for people with dogs and both my dogs had fun running on the beach and local area especially Mount Edgcumbe. I would highly recommend this property, just one point for people to consider there is no access to the property by vehicle and all luggage has to be carried, the site does provide trollies.

So glad you enjoyed your stay, thank you for your comments regarding the bed we will look into replacing it. I appreciate your comments about no vehicle access for luggage but this does make the lodge area safer and quieter Property Owner

  • "Lodge 23 at whitsand Bay Fort, immaculately presented with fantastic views, There are some nice little touches such as milk, tea, coffee and sugar on arrival."

We took our dog and relieved that the veranda is totally enclosed and gated at each end so he could 'potter’ around safely. Very Impressed with amount of storage in all areas of the property, (small thing -could do with more clothes hangers) Bedrooms felt warm at night, even though the outside temperature was 14° so a fan would be welcome particularly on the very warm summer nights. Contact with Lodge owner has been great, they emailed us a map of the site and have answered any questions we had swiftly. The site facilities are very good, though the swimming pool was closed for refurbishment on our visit. Restaurant is very good, with reasonably priced food, all the staff were very friendly. The site cafe great for a good cooked breakfast. Car parking, you get one allocated space, any additional car is charged at £10 a day, which I felt was excessive, you can park free on the road but space looked limited. I would certainly recommend Lodge 23 as a lovely place to stay, we’ll certainly stay there again.

Thank you for your positive comments, a fan and more coat hangers on the way. I believe there is a cheaper weekly rate for additional car parking Property Owner

Bed was really uncomfortable- in fact my partner got severe backache. Site also very messy. And adjoining cabins noisy on one night. Additional parking bring charged £20 a day is outrageous and unnecessary. Love the area but won’t return to that site.

Such a lovely view and location. It had everything that you would need like iron, washing machine, cleaning bits and even tea and sugar! was so cosy and warm regardless of the endless fog. Lovely veranda with gates both sides so our dog could run around freely. We watched some lovely sunsets from the pathway on site. I’m sure it will be even better once all the works are completed on site but it didn’t cause us any bother at. There is a beautiful beach just across the road that is down the cliff side and even a surf school that hires out wetsuits and boards. Would definitely recommend this place.

Thank you very much for your kind comments, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and the improvements that are being made on site didn't cause any problems Property Owner

About the location

TORPOINT

Wilcove 1.3 miles; Antony 3.2 miles; Whitsand Bay 5.7 miles.

Torpoint is a town and civil parish on the Rame Peninsula in southeast Cornwall. It is an eighteenth-century planned town, with the grid-based design having been commissioned by Reginald Pole Carew in 1774. His family continue to have a strong influence in the area, having become the Carew Poles in the twentieth century, and still reside at their family seat, Antony House. Torpoint only became a town in the early nineteenth century. Before this, the nearby village of Antony was the main centre in the area. The area is home to an array of gardens, museums, pubs and restaurants - with surf schools boat trips, cliff top walking and cycling for the more active types. Let's not forget some of the finest historic houses on display and open to the public to explore. Torpoint is a wonderful town with plenty of activities and sightseeing opportunities - you will not want to miss this.
