  • "The farmhouse is a lovely property."

Excellent parking, pretty outside area with plenty of seating. Set in a rural valley with lots of wildlife, Roe deer frequent visitors. Pleasant and helpful owner. Close to M4 junction 17 so very easy to get to places. The only negative we found was the cottage could do with a deep clean, saying which, the bedding and towels were immaculate. Excellent layout for family or friends holidaying together.

  • "A lovely, spacious, well equipped cottage in a beautiful, peaceful location, yet with easy access to a number of interesting towns and attractions."

The garden is also a great size, with nice furniture for relaxing or dining outside. The kitchen was particularly well equipped and really spacious. It was generally very clean but a few areas are ready for a bit more attention (eg shower floors need a more thorough clean, and headboard in main bedroom), and there was a broken toilet seat (which has been faulty for months according to guest book comments) and the bathroom door handle. Also only 8 clothes hangers for 6 people! However the caretaker responded quickly to some issues and queries we had, which was appreciated. We did feel that an info folder would have been handy and there was no welcome pack (eg bread/milk/biscuits) which is unusual nowadays, however we were given a dozen eggs the day after arrival which were lovely and much appreciated. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and found the cottage and its location to be really good.

  • "Beautiful location abound with wildlife and farm animals."

Very comfortable cottage but needs tlc. Ovens were quite dirty and garden furniture were strewn around the patio after the days storm. This should have been checked before we arrived. The pictures on your site were not true anymore. Much vegetation had grown but the gardens were still very beautiful after the gardener had been to cut some of this back. Many customers, however, would book this cottage based on your pictures.

Thank you Colleen for your feed back. It would seem your holiday was a tale of two halves. A damp chilly storm blowing a gale on arrival to a scorching heatwave come midweek. Good old British summertime! It’s nice to finally switch the heating off! You are right that the gardens have grown and established over the years as gardens and plants do. Do I feel the photos are no longer representative? Not at all. The gardens are and always have been beautiful. A gardener will know that a garden is never the same two years in a row. Plants grow, self seed and get divided and the charm is in seeing it change over the seasons and years. Our gardeners who are here 3 days a week are very good and passionate about their work and skill set, however this time of year things grow very quickly and need to be wrestled on a weekly basis to keep in control. I shall make note on the cleanliness of the oven. Besides a weekly wipe round the ovens across the farm are on a rotation for professional cleans that cannot be done during the few hours over a back to back change over. Property Owner

Lovely garden which is great for relaxing in whilst watching the birds. Maintenance required on the door handles and the loo seats and the loo in the utility room is very smelly. Lots to do in the area, would recommend Devizes and Bradford on Avon and the canal boat trip run from there.

  • "This is the first time we have ever stayed in a holiday cottage where there was no 'Cottage Information Folder'."

There was no information on: recycling/rubbish dispisal; what to do with linen at the end of the stay; emergency contacts, owner, hospitals, doctors dentists etc. We had to hunt through various draws to find operating instructions for kitchen equipment, likewise for local information. This did not make us feel very welcome.

Hello Peter, thank you for taking the time to review the property. You found no positives to write in your summery of your stay. Is that true? You are right, across all our properties for the last 10 years we have avoided offering a 'Cottage Information Folder'. We find it slightly old fashioned, and we try to be a little different down here. We like to believe that the properties are straight forward. We are on site pottering around, enjoying natters with our guests and always happy to answer any questions. Therefore, we’re saddened to read you found your experience on our farm unwelcoming. Our contact number is provided automatically with the Key code information when final payment is made. NHS 111 is now the first port of call for any non-emergency medical requirements instead of contacting local surgeries who undoubtedly are overstretched 'in this day and age’. Opposite is the communal bin store that is clearly marked for what goes where. Our lovely guests often review their time in the guest book left on the coffee table that you also managed to leave comments. Here you have an abundance of personal experiences from our guests that recommend where to visit and places to eat etc (and places to avoid) instead of being reliant on our own opinion. Thats said, there is also a selection of local visitor attraction pamphlets located in the entrance hall along with a box containing manuals for the appliances for those that need a little more direction. The Farmhouse is a beautiful property with a lovely interior, lush wrap around gardens and positioned to capture farm life at its best with views of the Chickens ‘doing their thing’ and spotting wildlife from the comfort of the sofa. Whats not to love? Perhaps you should give us another go? Martin Property Owner

Martin the owner was friendly and very helpful. As an egg farmer it was interesting to hear about his business and watch the happy hens leave the coup excitedly each morning. Thank you for our lovely organic free range eggs Martin. They poached beautifully. Would have liked a TV in the bedroom for those cosy lie ins but not essential. Loved the deep comfy sofas to relax in and there were lovely views from the windows. The dining table seated us all comfortably for our long post meal conversations. There were books and games which we didn't get to use but we needed more time here! Would love to return. It was well placed for lots of local attractions and easy to find. Parking was safe and right next to the cottage for anyone with mobility issues. There was no ev charger as advertised by skykes and I paid an extra £10 for this. I'm new to having an electric car and this was a stipulation to where we stayed . I think it was an error from skykes but Martin was very helpful in trying to resolve the issue for us. He couldn't have been more helpful.

Hi Trudi. Many thanks for your review. It was lovely to have your extended family stay over the weekend to enjoy several belated birthdays on the farm. I’m glad you enjoyed the property and the all imported eggs!! I’m sorry with regards to to your disappointment reference EV car charging point. Although this property does not advertise itself as having a dedicated charging point, we carry the electric charging supplement across all our properties due to often seeing cables trailing through windows and doors of the properties to peoples cars charging them at our expense. There are a number of properties on the farm with dedicated EV charging points and these are advertised with the relevant symbol and included in the write up. That’s not to say in future we may add further EV points to additional properties in the future, but for now, regardless of how you charge your car, whether that be from an EV point on the wall, or trailing cables from a plug in the house out to the car, if it is at our expense, a supplement is applied. I believe Sykes have clarified this on their write up of the property and as a gesture of good will, even though you did charge your car on site, have refunded the supplement to you. Property Owner

Local information on 'where to go' was minimal with a complete absence of recommendations for places to visit and to eat out. We experienced difficulties in securing some windows and doors and in the twin-bed room a control unit was hanging from the ceiling which glowed significantly in the dark. The quality of some items e.g. cutlery was also poor.

Hello Nigel, many thanks for taking time out to review your stay. I am pleased to read that you found the cottage comfortable and in a pleasant location. The issue experienced with securing the property is alarming and would have been beneficial if you made contact at the time as appose to leaving the property unsecured when you departed. Thankfully the cleaners discovered this when locking the property at the end of cleaning, contacted me and all was fixed. In regard to your other points for possible future guests who may be reading - we leave as standard, including in this case, bin bags in all bins and a spare for each under the sink along with a handful of dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, dishcloth and hand soap at each sink. We like to do it this way as appose to leaving in bulk and perhaps missing opportunities to replenish. We are sorry if you felt on this occasion we didn't leave enough. Cutlery and utensils are mid-range and as is the nature with such things in serviced accommodation gets replaced regularly. We could go more expensive or cheaper however we feel we have the balance right. We always leave the guest book centre on the coffee table which is a great read for guests arriving. It is full of reviews from happy guests who have stayed over the past 5 years - all leaving their tips and recommendations for where to visit and where to eat. Hundreds of reviews are far more beneficial than our opinion which may not be to everyone’s taste. Everything is subjective. That said, we are on the farm every day working and watering the plants etc and love a chit chat if given the opportunity. If you are holidaying in the area again please do look us up again. Pretty & well maintained garden. Lovely view over fields. Courtyard seating area not as photos depicted on website, it’s very neglected. The basics were clean, but generally needs a deep clean & attention to detail. Had an issue with the water pressure in the hot water tank, but fixed promptly. A good base, conveniently situated to explore the local area.

Linda, many thanks for your review. We’re pleased that you found the property spacious, comfortable and well furnished and that you found the garden pretty and well looked after. I agree with you that the courtyard garden in mid April does not depict the photos of the internet that were taken in mid summer. Sadly a few more weeks are needed for the charm to re-emerge. Each year we wait in anticipation for the wisteria to wake for the spectacular cascade of purple flowers and foliage that covers the pergola walkway and the peonies that line the edges. For now at least we are left to enjoy what few daffodils are still flowering, the tulips that are currently taking the staring role and watching the alliums begin to skyrocket before flowering along with the shrubs emerging from winter now that spring has truly arrived. A true gardener can enjoy the garden at all times of year watching the cycle of the plants before the grand finale in the height of summer - At which point throwing the outdoor cushions onto the garden furniture and you’re in an oasis of calm in a secret garden in the heart of the farmyard. We’re also pleased you found the basics clean and tidy. The house is blocked off for a week in mid May for redecoration, general maintenance and a deep clean of areas that aren’t always possible on the short amount of time allocated between guests. Should you be holidaying in the area again please do not hesitate in considering us. Martin Property Owner

Noisy fan in roof space above single bedroom and poor, intermittent water supply to shower and bath. Very damp smell in cloakroom. No bin bags in rubbish bins Owner very pleasant and generous.

Hello John. Thank you for your feedback. I am pleased you enjoyed your holiday and the property however I am disappointed in your comments regarding cleanliness and the garden. We try our upmost to clean the property each time to a high standard so it saddens me to read that you found debris and dust when moving furniture away from walls and moving heavy bed frames to check. Likewise our gardener was saddened to read your comments on the gardens which he takes great pride in. You are right however that the gardens look nothing like the photos as you stayed at the end of autumn when the photos on the website were taken in full bloom in early summer. The garden takes on a charm on its own in autumn with leaves turning and falling, perennials dying back and the tiredness of a full and long summer season of growing coming to an end. Cutting back the garden is done in early spring before the garden comes back to life again and not in late autumn when you can damage or destroy the plants and shrubs. That said the lawns are still being mowed when the weather permits and fallen leaves swept. I am sorry there were no bin bags on arrival however this was rectified within half an hour if you arriving. And lastly the noise you mention is the hot water tank that sits above the bathroom next to the twin bedroom. For any light sleepers this can be placed on a timer. I hope the above goes some way to alleviate your concerns and should you be holidaying in the area again then we’d be more than happy to host you again. Kind regards Martin. Property Owner

We loved watching them from the living room and kitchen. The accommodation itself was beautiful, with three good sized bedrooms, with very comfy beds, and the bathrooms were just great. The living area and kitchen were all spacious and very well equipped with everything you could possibly need for your stay. The décor and furnishings were also lovely. The spacious garden and terrace were an additional bonus, and we enjoyed sitting out in the garden for a few hours each day. The only slight negative comment that I have, is the fact that the ovens on the range cooker could have done with a good clean. They were covered in splashes of something that looked like something had exploded in the oven. It was still perfectly usable though, could just do with a good clean. All in all, it was a home from home and would definitely stay again, we had a lovely time in this beautiful bungalow and its surroundings.

Numerous planted tubs, baskets, flower beds, shrubs and trees. Your own private estate which is a credit to the gardener who has brought it back to life. Highlights of the property has to be the main bathroom which you would expect to be seen in the penthouse of a five star hotel. The eat-in kitchen with its large induction range cooker will please budding chefs. The farm is well maintained. Don't think muddy yard and barns but well maintained free range chicken sheds at a distance (suppliers to Able & Cole) with cattle and goats in the fenced surrounding fields. Great location for visiting somewhere new everyday. Negatives, numerous flies around in June and the TV signal fades away at times due to the valley location. We would visit again.

  • "This property is best described in terms of superlatives."

Every aspect of the property and its management is worthy of high praise. Take the ‘welcome pack’ where it is quite common for owners to provide the basic staples on arrival. Here it is taken to a new level with free range eggs from a local farm – delicious and astonishingly fresh and Florentine luxury dark chocolate biscuits. The property is light and airy, not surprisingly, with a total of four sets of French doors. The house is tastefully decorated in the contemporary style and all of the equipment within is the very latest and of a high specification. The massive kitchen provides an informal hub as well as top level practical equipment in terms of induction hob range cooker, mega American style fridge freezer, dishwasher and a host of quality minor appliances. Cookware is by Raymond Blanc and crockery by Denby. To buttress the kitchen is a utility/boot room with washer and tumbler drier and cloakroom WC and yet more cupboards. The sitting room is comfortable and large but cosy with an inglenook fireplace and wood-burning stove to complement the efficient central heating. Both bathrooms have the walk in step free shower wet-room well executed with digital shower controls and underfloor heating. All three bedrooms are comfortable and spacious doubles and the configuration means that every bedroom either has its own WC and basin or is next to one. The extensive gardens, which almost surround the property, should more properly be termed grounds and even here there are two raised beds with herbs growing in them. There is a sheltered sitting area with suitable furniture in the formal garden area. There is ample parking for three vehicles right outside the bungalow.
