  • "The cottage itself is beautiful and exactly as it looks in the photos."

The garden, whilst on rather steep slope is great and properly secure for our dog. It was all furnished to a high standard & perfect for the 2 of us & our 4 legged friend. If I was being picky, replacing the bog standard dinky wine glasses with something decent would be nice and maybe a full length mirror but neither was a deal breaker. We loved being able to walk the 10 minutes to the Old Court House restaurant & in fact went twice as the food was fab. It was a bit of a pain not having WIFI but Craig did warn us he couldn't get it fixed until the following week, it just meant we lived a little more spontaneously (as we did many years ago) The only thing that let it down slightly was the damp, slightly mouldy aroma that pervaded the cottage & and it did make everywhere feel a bit chilly even on the warm summer day we arrived. It may just be a result of part of it being effectively below ground (the slope of the garden at the top is level with the kitchen ceiling) I think we acclimatised a little but after one rainy day, it felt so chilly & damp that we put the gas heater on for a couple of hours in the evening. Maybe a couple of dehumidifiers would help. All in all, however, we enjoyed our stay very much

  • "We are not picky in any way but this place is the worst we've ever seen."

Everything you touch was sticky, the place was extremely dirty in general, the floor in the dark kitchen was covered in black from the dirt over all the years and the air was almost not breathable. We left after two day because my wife got serious health issues inside the building. Furthermore he claimed at Sykes we damaged the floor by cleaning it with water. By the way...Sykes Cottages was no help to solve the problems in any way.

The accommodation was well equipped and we would definitely consider staying here again. The gardens were dog proof which was a great help when sitting outside with our spaniel. Definitely recommended.

The hosts are very welcoming and considerate. The area is lovely. If you have never been to the Wye valley, it’s well worth a visit.

The owners were very friendly and helpful at all times, and there was plenty of different information around for places to go and see. Lovely walks around in the hills and valleys around the cottage. As the cottage was not to far from a main road it made it easy access to get to other places around the area with a car which were both close and a distance away. Lovely Breakfasts provided if wanted. The nice art and craft gallery within the grounds was also a bonus, fantastic wire and wooden items made and on show. a good place if you like different crafts. Also dog friendly.

We enjoyed our weekend here, the apartment was well equipped. My only suggestion would be that maybe some carpet is needed in the upstairs apartment to muffle the noisy footsteps?

Thank you for your feedback we really appreciate it. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay. We are looking for ways to reduce the noise from the Cider Loft although regrettably carpet is a difficult one for us, but we will investigate our options. Regards Craig & Lynne Property Owner

We particularly appreciated the securely enclosed back garden, which gave our dog a safe place to unwind after our long walks around the local area. We loved the nearby Old Court Hotel for a meal out; very cosy inside, and it has a gorgeous garden to enjoy a drink if you get lucky with the weather.

Thank you for taking the time to write this great review. We're so pleased you enjoyed your stay. We recently renewed some of the fencing for the cottage's back garden so thank you for the feedback. Look forward to seeing you again one day. Property Owner

It meant no hot water to wash up but boiling a kettle was no issue. The shower also fluctuated dramatically from boiling hot to freezing cold but I managed ok. I loved the setting and had a lovely relaxing week which did me the world of good and was what I was looking for. I would definitely visit again.

It was well equipped with everything we needed, the garden was secure for our dog, and the maps and detailed instructions for local walks left by the owners led us to some amazing places that we wouldn't have otherwise found. As mentioned in a previous review for this cottage, you can hear the people in the loft above quite clearly at times (especially if they snore!!), but we didn't feel that this distracted from our overall enjoyment of the holiday, and we will definitely be going back.

The downside and its a big downside is that it also has an apartment up over and when occupied you can hear every noise above day and night which means a quiet and relaxing time away is not going to happen, we didn't realise this until reading reviews on another website after the event we feel that this should have been stated in the description.
