  • "Overall the property was great in a nice remote location."

I feel however the property does need some TLC and after reading reviews online agree with other comments such as; - Tiles in the kitchen and certain bathrooms needs grout repairs and cracks on many of the times (we had a 7 month old which we didn't feel comfortable to leave on the floor and crawl) - Standard utensils etc we would have expected were not there (e.g. sponge/dishwasher tablets/broom). We were told we had a broom when it was a mop - Cot requested was not put out but was sorted straight away, appreciate human errors occur - Cleanliness of towels to be improved, a few had marks on - Lot of cob webs around the property and cleanliness overall we felt was poor. Most of the party spent the first couple of hours cleaning We have used Rural Retreats for 18 years and for the first year used Sykes but can say we will not be using Sykes again based on our first experience.

  • "We had an issue with two of the beds breaking and some of the party had to sleep on the sette."

Overall the property is in need of refreshment broken cracked tiles on the floor upstairs, broken tiles in the round bedroom in the shower, the heated towel rail in the round bedroom all the paint was flaking off. It’s a lovely place but now needs refreshment I was quite disappointed for the money we paid.

Hi Andy - The cottage is a lovely place, as you say, and one that all who stay with us love for its open living spaces, gorgeous views, the luxury feel and how beautifully presented it is. I am so sorry that you were unhappy and just wish you'd brought these things to our attention during your stay so we could have tried to help. You'll see from our reviews that we'll always do pretty much anything to make sure you have a lovely stay and would have done for you too. It's all about the personal touch for us. As you have said, unfortunately your party did manage to break two of the beds, so it seems a little unfair to leave us such a terrible review based on that. When you reported this to us, you told us that two slats (out of 24) seemed loose and that they 'may need attention when we depart'. Nevertheless, I immediately came over to help. Your fellow guests were lovely but didn't really seem to want me to come in and take a look, but when I did it was obvious that slats and holiding clips had been broken on each bed - I immediately tried to provide a temporary repair (it was a Saturday afternoon and I wanted your family to be happy), working with one of your party and I understand that all slept well the next night. I do hope that you'll stay with us again, we'd love to have you back ☺ Property Owner

The window also needed cleaning inside and out. This didn’t spoil our weekend. One other suggestion 5 bathroom for what could hold 16 people. More toilet roll please. One in each is not enough and we found ourselves running out.

  • "We had an amazing time at Lower Tundridge Cottage!"

All of the extra flourishes like the hot tub, steam shower and mezzanine made this place an unforgettable stay. The rooms are all very equally sized which meant no quibbling about who’d be in each room, and they were all clean and comfortable. We had a slight issue with adjusting the heated towel rail temperatures down on a very hot day, but after emailing Mo, he sorted it out remotely. It was then a perfect temperature and very cool in the rooms at night. The cottage is a 30 min walk to a great brewery which does pizza on Saturdays, and there were plenty of footpaths to explore around the area. We think we’ll be back some day!

  • "The property was situated in lovely area with many fantastic walks right on the doorstep."

The cottage was very comfortable, clean and well maintained. It was very well equipped for a large family of 14 to celebrate a birthday with ages from 8 to 73 and 3 dogs. There was plenty of room for all, we particularly liked the large dining table and huge hot tub which we all made good use of. The kids all loved hanging out in the mezzanine above the kitchen. We walked to the next local pub off road which was very hilly and muddy but very picturesque with beautiful unspoilt views the whole way which certainly gave us a thirst. Take wellies/ walking boots. The property is quite remote but we liked that and we enjoyed the peace and quiet. The nearest local shop is 10 minutes drive away so we went prepared and it wasn’t a problem. We also had a lovely Indian takeaway delivered to the property. Property would maybe benefit from a few games etc. We took our own. The owner Mo came to check the hot tub and was friendly and helpful. Everyone of our party thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we would recommend a stay here.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay and the house was very beautiful, There was no bin bags or surface spray left so we could clean, normally we leave the house sparkling but unfortunately we only could clean things to a certain point."

Having no bin bags left the kitchen slightly feeling dirty as we were piling up rubbish before transferring it downstairs. (One person bought one bin bag to put their dirty clothes in and we filled that up and re used it a few times) We needed more loo roll, especially in the communal bathrooms, as we were left short and couldn’t find anywhere open on New Year’s Day to replenish it. A few people complained that the beds might need new mattress’s but all in all, we loved staying there, and would love to come back. The house was very well equipped for cooking and hosting dinner parties. Thank you for the Prosecco and how beautiful and festive the house was decorated

  • "We did have a lovely time as a family at Tundridge cottage."

Having said that the property is quite tired with a fausty smell in the main bedroom - probably from the lower part of the shower which had pink bacteria. Some of the beds were quiet hard but we sorted it with cushions from the sofas. Baking trays/Pans need replacing. Many broken floor tiles. Hot tub was wonderful.

Hi Annette! We're so pleased that you had such a lovely time at the cottage - we've designed it to be perfect for family times and making memories together. Being able to offer that to every family that visits makes it all worthwhile for us too! I wish you'd got in touch during your stay and told us about anything that was bothering you as we'd have wanted to fix it for you... I can't work out which room it is that you're referring to but we'd happily have come over and dealt with it for you straight away had we known. Beds are always such a subjective things and I know we can all be a bit Goldilocks in what we love or don't; all of the beds have good quality memory foam mattresses and so many of our visitors rave about the great night's sleep they've had here - which is probably as much about the country air as it is the beds. I do so hope that we'll see you again☺ Property Owner

General cleanliness poor, under beds/furniture very dusty..months of dust. The showers all had problems with lack of cleanliness.Bed linen and pillows worn. Big yellow stainn on our mattress and lots of human hair. This was only discovered when we stripped the bed on leaving. One sofa in lounge had to be propped up by a piece of wood. Dining chairs:some where unsafe and unstable. 2 TV's did not work. Towels were not provided for the jacuzzi and this was not stated in the brochure. • "Lower Tundridge Cottage is a beautiful building within a lovely countryside setting."

We booked the cottage for our annual reunion as a group of 12 adults. We enjoyed our stay but felt there were a few areas of the house that did not match the quality expected for such a property, including: - The house was not deeply cleaned before we arrived. The bedding had hairs within in it, there were dirty tissues stuffed behind a bedroom TV, forgotten items from previous visitors were left behind bedroom drawers and an ensuite toilet had not been cleaned thoroughly as there were hairs and dirt within bowl. - The beds do not have proper mattresses, instead they have have very thin foam toppers or two foam Toppers placed on top of each other. The beds would benefit from standard mattresses especially if you are renting the property for more than one night. - The sofas are run down and uncomfortable, the legs are bowing outwards and the cushions have become very thin. - The kitchen would benefit from more utensils including wooden spoons, ladles & serving spoons. Especially when catering for 12 adults. We were very grateful that the property did have a great supply of glassware, crockery and cutlery and dishwasher tablets were supplied however a cleaning spray was not provided which made it difficult to thoroughly clean the kitchen after each meal. The hot tub was a fantastic addition to the cottage and we throughly enjoyed using it during our stay. It was lovely to meet Mo (the owner) who very promptly came over when we emailed with a query and it was fascinating to hear about the history of the building and it’s journey to be converted into a holiday cottage. Mo & Edwin were very accommodating in the lead up to our stay and provided us with excellent recommendations within the local area and taxi companies to use. Overall we had a great weekend catching up with friends but felt the cottage would benefit from a few tweaks.

  • "The holiday was nice and quiet."

The house was a great size and layout for the 14 of us...plenty of space. Not as clean as expected on arrival, but I did speak with the owner about it. He apologized and said they had just changed cleaning contracts. Everyone enjoyed themselves. The only thing I would do differently is provide a larger fridge. With 8 adults and 6 kids the fridge is a bit small, even using the downstairs fridge for drinks and overflow. Other than that lovely location. The small country lanes take some getting used to at first. Close to Malvern, Worcester and Upton-upon Severn. Lots to do for all ages in the surrounding areas.

  • "We were a group of 13 and overall had an enjoyable stay."

Many things about the cottage were great: it’s location, large dining area, upstairs space, hot-tub. However its a 3.5 out of 5 as it lets itself down in several areas: totally inadequate fridge in kitchen (far too small, missing all door storage), we unanimously found the beds uncomfortable - many are old and tired memory foam which need replacing, one bed was collapsing in the middle and we had to prop it up), one of the ‘signature’ showers was unsuable as thermostat broken, there was a dangerous step into one bathroom as the floor was poorly finished. It wouldn’t take much investment to make this place a 5/5. Finally the selling material claim there’s a pub within 10 mins walk. There isn’t as its been closed for a long while - that really needs to be explained. We hope the owner does invest in the property as it could be fantastic, but having spoken to him with the concerns above, we aren’t convinced that will happen.

The rooms were great and we loved the garden and the hot tub! We also really loved the disco shower in the round room. It was perfect for a Hen. I don't think the advert makes it clear that its not suitable for 16 adults, the small double sofa beds are only really suitable for 2 children or one adult - which was only made clear when we spoke to the host. Mo was a fantastic host and it was really handy having him next door for local recommendations and refiling the hot tub. I would agree with other comments that the fridge / freezer situation is not enough for a house that size. We really struggled to fit everything in. Overall tho loved the house and would definitely stay again.

Mo left us some prosecco and snacks for our arrival which was incredibly thoughtful. This property has everything you would need and more, and the little details like fairy lights and moving disco lights created a fun atmosphere! Lastly, in terms of the host - he is super responsive and accommodating. We used the Alexa to play some music and there’s even a disco light in the lounge area so with the beautiful Christmas decorations it felt really festive. The nearest pub is the Fox and Hounds around a 10 minute drive away which serves very good food. The house also has a large hot tub which is a great experience with a glass or 2! • "Overall a very nice property in some really peaceful surroundings."

Sadly, the description belies the actuality, or should I say better information would have been very useful. Plenty of photos on your site but none of the stairs, and only a one way view of the garden. The shower in Bathroom 2 would not work correctly, the owner/technician viewed this. No spare loo rolls or rubbish sacks, would they normally be supplied? The large bedroom with the round bed was found to very uncomfortable, it appears to be a large block of foam placed upon a wooden frame with little or no give. Did we enjoy the main dining/sitting area and the hot tub yes. A little picky, perhaps, but for 10 of us on a first rent of a holiday home at some considerable expense were our expectations too high?

We're so delighted that you enjoyed your time at the cottage; it is such a lovely upstairs open-plan living space which is great for sharing happy family times and which all of our guests love. We're so lucky to be located in such idyllic surroundings with the neighbouring Suckley hills and perfect countryside views in every direction, including whilst sitting and relaxing in the luxurious hot tub. We really appreciate all of your helpful feedback and have added even more photos. To answer your question about consumables - as with all self-catering accommodation, yes, you should plan to bring these items or (our top tip) is to order a home shopping delivery for the night of your arrival so that everything you need effortlessly arrives as if by magic just as you are unpacking! All of the major supermarkets deliver to the cottage. We do make sure that there's a good initial supply of everything to welcome you on arrival though, just in case you forget. The amazing round bed has a custom-made memory foam mattress. The other beds also get the luxury memory foam treatment and we regularly get feedback telling us how comfy they are - with some guests telling us that they've enjoyed their best nights sleep ever here; though we understand that mattress preferences can be such a personal thing. We'd love to have you, or your delightful family, visit us again soon and very much look forward to being able to welcome you back, Bill! Property Owner

  • "We we're really excited about going away and from all the pictures we saw online this cottage looked fantastic and would seemingly meet all our requirements."

The cottage is based in a very quiet and idyllic village of Suckley, surrounded by greenery and tranquility so felt like the perfect place to unwind. We got super lucky with the weather and it was mainly 22-24c the whole week we we're there. In terms of the property itself, I would say it's got all the gloss in the pictures but lets itself down pretty quickly. I accept the place is meant to be a fusion of rustic and modern but it felt very rough round the edges in parts, just little bits like finishing/decoration etc. For example there was a massive crack around the induction hob, scuffs and marks in a lot of places etc. Garden furniture, specifically the wooden benchs/table looked like it had weathered for the last decade outside. The real problem was the comfort for all the guests, the mattresses we're not good, felt very soft and worn in and the pillows had no firmness to them. This became a chief complaint amongst most of us that stayed, the same can be said about the couch/sofa as well as it was really worn in and had no support whatsoever. We also found it really odd that two of the rooms just had open bathroom areas right next to the beds so the ensuite's in these areas were seldom used and the guests all struggled over the shared bathroom, something that wasn't completely obvious at booking. The family rooms are upstairs off the main kitchen/living room area, I'd say the rooms are at an ok distance if you have kids sleeping and people are up and about making noise, but something to be mindful of. We did like the big open kitchen/table area where we could all eat and enjoy as a social spot. Overall the property is fine, I had higher expectations for comfort for sure, possibly more suited to adult parties than with younger kids.

The property

This is a spectacular, upside-down detached farmhouse in the village of Suckley in the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is a stylish, contemporary conversion of a traditional farm building that was once used in hop and grain production.

Full of charm and character, the building is full of original features and with exposed oak beams inside.

The beautiful design and finish, high-quality facilities and stunning rural location make the cottage a prime spot for friends and family to come together and enjoy a luxurious holiday.

Step into Lower Tundridge Cottage and into its lovely, spacious entrance which leads towards four of the six immaculate bedrooms, two of which have sumptuous en-suite shower rooms with body jets and rainfall shower heads.

One of the rooms on this floor is a lavish suite made up of two former oast houses; the circular, high ceilinged sections are now combined and feature a huge round bed and mosaic tiled wet-room with an impressive overhead rainfall shower, body jets and multi-colour LED lighting built-in.

There is also a family shower room on the ground floor - with two separate rainfall showers and body jets in one large cubicle - and a cloakroom.

A walk up the oak, glass-panelled staircase takes you towards the fabulous open plan living area with exposed feature roof trusses and a high vaulted ceiling.

An original hoist wheel, once used to raise grain from the ground floor, remains as a reminder of the building’s heritage.

There’s plenty of comfortable seating to relax in, a large slate breakfast bar where everyone can sit together - whether for dinner or just a glass of wine and a chat - and a fantastic woodburning stove all creating a great area to sit and relax with everybody together.

The luxury kitchen area is enough to please the most enthusiastic cooks in the family with three ovens (one of which doubles as a microwave), a dishwasher, induction hob and granite worktops.

A mezzanine area looks out over the living space through glass balustrades and provides a cosy chilling-out space where you can relax with a book or spend a few moments contemplating.

The entrance hall provides another separate space to sit and enjoy the cottage and all it has to offer.

The whole building is kept at the perfect temperature by an underfloor heating system.

The first floor also boasts two family bedrooms, making it the perfect place for families with young children to come and stay.

Each of these can accommodate two adults and up to 2 younger children.

One has an en-suite shower room and the other is served by a chic family bathroom right next door - with a free-standing bath with floor standing taps over.

Just perfect for relaxing in with a glass of wine or some bubbles…and a steam room/shower cabinet for two.

Make the most of the outstanding garden when coming to stay here, there is a lawn area, alfresco dining area and a large hot tub - with lights, waterfalls, a TV, a recliner and even a built in ice-bucket/chiller - to enjoy at your leisure.

Suckley is a delightful scattered village with the essential amenities for a holiday base as it also offers scenery and plenty of walks for you to enjoy, sitting on the Worcestershire Way.

The charming town of Malvern is a short distance away, it has some lovely buildings as well as a good range of shops and restaurants and is famed for its theatres and walks across the stunning scenery of the Malvern Hills, said to have inspired Edward Elgar.

Lower Tundridge Farm is an excellent property in the most scenic of countryside locations.
