Description

Coole Gate Lodge is a historic retreat in Gort, County Galway, and the last remaining gate lodge of the Coole Estate, once home to Lady Augusta Gregory of the Irish literary revival. Dating back to the late 1700s, when Robert Gregory acquired the estate from Oliver Martyn, the lodge offers antique charm, ground-floor living, and ample parking for a lovely countryside escape. Upon entering this single-storey abode, you will be greeted by three inviting bedrooms, two of which are doubles, each boasting their own en-suite facilities with walk-in showers, basins and WCs for added convenience. The third bedroom is a lovely twin, perfect for friends sharing. The family bathroom is well-appointed with a bath, an overhead shower, a basin and a WC, ensuring all guests have ample space to prepare for their day. The heart of the home is undoubtedly the kitchen and dining room, where you can gather to enjoy home-cooked meals, prepared with love in the well-equipped kitchen. A handy utility room houses a washer/dryer, ideal for those longer stays. After a day of exploring, retire to the living and dining room, where a welcoming sofa and armchair await. Here, you can unwind in front of the TV, catch up on your favourite shows or enjoy a movie night with the provided DVD player. If you prefer some quiet time, then choose one of the books available and get lost in a good story. The dining area offers seating for four, perfect for enjoying meals or planning the next day's adventures. Outside, the enclosed rear garden is a haven for relaxation. With a patio, a well-kept lawn, picnic benches and a garden table with chairs, you can enjoy the calmness of your wonderful surroundings as you dine, or simply soak up the sun whilst imagining the Coole Gate Lodge throughout the years with its wonderful history. When you're ready to roam beyond this timeless property, embrace the opportunity to visit the nearby Coole Park and its nature reserve, a sanctuary of serene woodland walks, vibrant migratory bird life, and the former stately home of Lady Gregory, a co-founder of the iconic Irish Literary Revival.Venture a little further to the picturesque Thoor Ballylee, a 14th century tower house, the former home of poet W.B.Yeats. Just 1 km from Coole Lodge, the Kiltartan Gregory Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the literary and cultural heritage of the area. For a unique, subterranean adventure, the Aillwee Burren Experience awaits, offering fascinating cave tours that plunge beneath the Burren's rocky landscape.
