3 Customer Reviews

  • "The property was beautiful and could have been perfect."

The spaces were lovely, the location scenic and the views spectacular. But it was dirty, inadequately maintained and under-resourced. I also feel it was likely to have been inaccurately listed because it has been claiming for months to be 'new - no reviews'. The truth is almost certainly that the reviews are like mine, not positive enough to post. So that is a clear withholding of important information for the next customer.

  • "I want to be completely fair and honest in this review and start off with the positives."

Chapel Hill is a beautiful house in its own grounds with amazing views and great rooms. Especially the bar area and the pool which we used everyday. The welcome pack was lovely and full of treats. And as a family of 7, we had a really great time. However, there are quite a few things that I would say need to be addressed, which unfortunately leads me on to some negatives. The cleanliness of the house is something which needs vast improvement and attention. I’m not sure what the cleaners did before we got there (I can only assume change the bedding and towels and then left) but there were quite literally trails of dust on every window sill, every ornament, shelf, drawers, etc. Indicating that this wasn’t just from the past week. The floor in the kitchen hadn’t been cleaned as it had food on it and stains. The microwave actually had bits of mould in it which we had to clean thoroughly before use. The air fryer was also dirty and extremely smelly. I would say over half of the plates and mugs in the cupboards are chipped and need replacing. The windows are filthy, inside and out, actually spoiling the views. Many of the panes are obviously old and worn. There are 2 bedrooms with nowhere to hang or fold and put clothes away. It’s quite baffling that for a house of this size the owners chose not to put wardrobes or drawers in the 2 of the bedrooms. We had use other peoples bedrooms which wasn’t ideal. As I said at the start, the house is beautiful and we did have a great time but I wanted to be honest because we paid 3k for a week here and when you are paying that much you really would expect it be to clean. Would we come back? Yes! But only if all the highlighted problems were resolved.

  • "While this was a lovely big house that accommodated our large family, our stay was overshadowed by the fact that the house was dirty when we arrived."

We had to empty bins, clean out the fridge and cupboards, clean up masses of dog hair, wipe down cup stains from tables and clean a mouldy ice machine and mouldy coffee machine before we could unpack and relax. After spending an afternoon in the house we noticed that those wearing white socks had filthy bottoms. On return we complained to Sykes and provided photos of what we had been faced with on check in. The home owner offered us a frankly offensive £20 for our inconvenience (after we had paid more than £2700 for our stay and basically had to be our own cleaners in some areas!!) and after our non-acceptance Sykes offered a further £30 then closed the complaint with no other room for discussion or appreciation for the inconvenience we faced. Such a shame as this is a lovely property but we would never return due to the cleanliness issues.
