  • "No oven glove, not all lightbulbs working throughout the cottage, bbq was not emptied, handle broken and drip tray missing so ash falling through, Wood burner not emptied, toilet not flushing in upstairs bathroom and the toilet brush disgusting with faeces ."

. very unpleasant!!, window frame in bedroom 2 broken, dog poo bags left on floor by dustbins, one of recliner chairs broken and held together by string, diffuser sticks mouldy, no kindling or logs for wood burner …. So yes not that happy

  • "Great cottage with lovely features."

The garden was amazing and safe for young children to run around. The games room was an added bonus. The 15 minute walk into Salcombe is ok and is downhill but a steep walk back so might not be ideal for everyone, driving is possible however the lanes are very narrow and reversing is needed at times. The log burner in the lounge is a lovely touch but the sofas are not very comfortable, due to our stay being a summer month this did not really bother us this time. We did have an issue with lights and had to call an electrician out, we had to wait until the following morning so were without lighting for an evening. Parking is sufficient for 2 cars. Signage for the cottage could be improved so is more easily visible. The shed door is hanging off and we had a near miss when opening it. Wifi is good. I would recommend this cottage for a family stay.

  • "Summer cottage is beautiful and quirky period cottage."

It was very clean on arrival and had everything we needed for a self catering holiday. The unusual cooker didn't bother us at all as there are good instuctions provided and we even managed a full roast dinner easily enough. We especially loved the log burning stove in the lounge, the wide variety of books, games and DVDs provided and the beautiful views from the master bedroom. My teenagers spent hours playing table football in the den. It's a lovely 15 minute walk into Salcombe which we did most days but it is steep so might not suit anyone with mobility issues.

  • "We found ‘Summer Cottage’ to be a delightfully well-presented period cottage in a charming (and very quiet) location."

At the top of the tide, boats can be launched from the head of Batson Creek, just 5 minutes walk down the hill. Read the instructions for the Sandyford (Aga) carefully, as it takes quite a while to heat up! ‘The Den’ is cool, but it would benefit from a slight change of layout in order to maximise the space - mount a big TV on one of the side walls, and put big sofas on the opposite side or in a corner. You’ll then have a cool snug for kids, whereas today you have a small TV and a sofa for 2/3.

  • "The cottage is lovely and in a fantastic location, peaceful but close to Salcombe."

The bedrooms and bathrooms were well appointed and comfortable. The chairs in the lounge were ok but not really that comfortable for a longer evening. The kitchen was nice overall but the cooking facilities are completely inappropriate for a holiday stay. The range cooker temperature needs to be manually controlled 30-60 minutes ahead of use, and even then the hot hob does not hold a boiling pan effectively. The induction hob unit to the side of the range is not straightforward to work out, and when in use the temperature cannot be finely adjusted. Coupled with the range issue we had to constantly blow on a simmering pan for 20 minutes to avoid it boiling over otherwise it would not hold a simmer either. This made cooking a meal for our family extremely difficult. The kitchen also needs to be equipped with more dish cleaning products, and we found the coffee machine wasn’t clean and we found old jacket potatoes in the range oven!

  • "Beautiful place, garden is gorgeous."

Beds comfortable. We had a blissful week, ate all our meals outdoors as weather was perfect. Facilities are good especially the showers, the cooker was different but once you got used to it, it was fine. Very handy for Salcombe, a beautiful walk in which we did most days.

  • "The cleanliness of the cottage was far better than our last visit, everything was immaculate."

The only slight moan would be the same as our previous visit-the cooker. Taking half an hour to heat up & only the 2 hot plates makes it tricky to cook a full meal for a family. We appreciated the separate electric hob, but a double one would be great then we wouldn't have to heat up the main oven, therefore saving money on fuel for you too.

  • "Cleanliness has been mentioned by others in their feedback and still hasn't been addressed."

My wife wrote dust on shelves in the lounge, there were also thick cobwebs everywhere. We got there early at 2pm and we were allowed to put things in the fridge, but when we got in at 3pm the kitchen floor was still wet. The banister rail at the top was wobbly, the doors wouldn't shut properly, catches were broken and there were loose tiles in the kitchen. I noticed that there was a leak through the kitchen ceiling, probably from the main bathroom. In the main on suite bedroom there are yellow tail scorpions in the wall, which my son had to block off with tissue paper.

  • "A fantastic place to stay."

One tiny tiny gripe - it felt a bit invasive having the window cleaner arrive during our stay as he was told to clean both inside and out which could have been a little uncomfortable had we not been out of bed!

We loved the fittings so in keeping and the painted decor, it was a great size for 4 adults and 3 children without feeling on top on each other. we didn’t use the Den but can imagine on warmer days it would be used a lot. We loved our stay in our ‘Christmas Cottage’ and we’re sad to leave

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. We were really pleased to read that the property was comfortable and the location was great for what you had planned during your stay. • "The cottage was great although a bit cobwebby!"

I placed a bag on top of the wardrobe to make space and when I took it down it was literally covered in dust and fluff. I realise it is an old cottage and accept cobwebs but a quick dust on top of wardrobes not difficult. The bedding was all very nice and fresh feeling. The downside of the kitchen was the cooker I would say. It was quite annoying that it had to be switched on 30 minutes before you could start to cook anything which is no good if you have young children who want to eat soon after you arrive home. Also, because I have arthritis in my hand, I found the doors almost impossible to open. Something to be aware of I think. Lovely view from the cottage windows, the children enjoyed watching the cows moving from field to field. Finally I would like to say I didn’t need so many emails from C &C giving me instructions on how the cottage was to be left, it was quite irritating, remove all bedding, put towels in black bags, make sure dishwasher is emptied, remove all rubbish etc etc. Personally I would always do that but when you are paying a not inconsiderable amount for a weeks stay you do not expect to be told to do the job of the cleaners for them.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are happy to hear that you loved Summer Cottage. The comments in respect of the accommodation are much appreciated, these have been passed on to the owner who will be looking to address the various points mentioned. We can only apologise that you felt we asked too much of you on your departure, please know these are only suggestions to help the cleaners at this busy time. We are so pleased you enjoyed your holiday and hope to welcome you back to the area soon. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was very well equipped & in particular the beds/ bedding extremely comfortable."

The downstairs shower room wasn’t clean- hairs in the plug hole from a long while ago stopping it from draining which I dealt with. Whilst we are used to an Aga style oven, those who aren’t would struggle to cook a full meal effectively. Perhaps a separate hob could be installed as well, which most people with Aga’s have. It must have made the kitchen very warm in the hot weather as well. A lovely cottage in a great position.
