"Three-night stay at Westering Sun Shepherd's Hut, September 2024 Upon arrival near the postcode, we had difficulty in finding the location."
The details supplied gave the address as Colebrook Lodge. We drove up and down the A39 searching for this address, and the only thing we saw was Colebrook Farm. We decided to investigate. We drove down a long single track and ended at a dead end with a farm with no signage. We turned around and headed back out. We decided to phone the owners, who informed us we were in the correct location; we were told to retrace our tracks until we came to a footpath crossing the lane, having turned around, we found a muddy track, which we turned into and found our property. There was NO signage whatsoever offering directions to the site. It was pouring rain, and we were glad to arrive finally, looking forward to a glass of wine and a hot tub. We opened the door, and several flies flew out, upon entering the hut, there were more flies within, I killed around ten flies and noticed some of them had blood in them, possibly horseflies. This was not the welcome we had expected. I left the door open to get rid of the rest of the flies. I then went to check the hot tub, and it was cold! This was the last straw, I contacted the owner by mobile and initially told her about the flies, which she never commented on or acknowledged during our conversation, she then went on to say they don't guarantee the hot tub on the first night, this is not mentioned anywhere on the website description. From then on, she was very unhelpful, not offering to resolve any of our issues, leading to the conclusion we had no alternative but to leave. It was mentioned I should have given the owner a chance to rectify the problems, but what could she have done about the flies or the hot tub? Nothing! We had also brought food with us in a chiller bag. So we decided to go into Bude to see if we could get a cheap hotel or B&B, unfortunately, all the less expensive places we booked, so we were forced to return home with some of the food ruined, plus the cost of the journey. * I found it strange there were no directional signs for Westering Sun, Colebrook Lodge from the main road up to the property, * If they had cleaned the property, where did all the flies come from several hours later? All the windows and doors were shut when we arrived, we were not happy to sleep in an unhygienic, fly-infested hut overnight, who would? * The owner said she doesn't guarantee the hot tub on the first night, but it does not mention this in the property description. Total misrepresentation! They have, since our return, failed to offer any compensation for our genuine and honest complaints and inconvenience

"Lovely little shepsherds hut tucked away in a field surrounded by a working farm."
We had some horsey neighbours who were lovely. The hut was smaller than anticipated but was sufficient for two persons. Lacked storage and fridge was a counter top fridge so very small and wouldn't be able to hold food for a 4 night stay. Owners Ann and Barry are lovely and any little niggles we're promptly addressed. Great views across the valley with partial sea view. Hot tub great addition. Great spot for sunset, and we were treated to an awesome sunset one night. And don't forget to look up into the night sky when in the hot tub. The stars... WOW. On a clear night the sky comes alive. Would definitely recommend.

"This Shepards hut was exactly what we needed to get away from it all."
We felt completely on our own. The sunsets were delightful. Highly recommended!! The only suggestion we had was maybe have more shelves for our things. We have been talking about coming back next year!

"We absolutely loved our stay at Westering Sun!"
Barry and Ann were such wonderful hosts and made sure we were absolutely settled but managed to somehow do this without being invasive, which is an art. Nothing was too much trouble for Barry, and he quickly answered questions, helped us locate things in the hut etc. The location is sensational, you feel like you are totally alone, which is exactly what we wanted. The fields and wildlife are beautiful, and there is even one friendly cat who came to visit us that absolutely made our stay extra special. The hot tub was such a bonus, we loved staying out in the afternoons and evenings, it was super clean and you can tell that Barry and Ann look after it and keep it in good condition. On the day of our arrival Barry was cleaning it out and it was ready to go shortly after, it kept it's temperature for the whole week we were there, and we had no issues and we truly enjoyed this little luxury. The hut was well equipped with towels for the bathroom, towels for the hot tub, a hot plate, a microwave, a mini fridge, kettle, toaster, cutlery and crockery, plus bedding and a pillow each. Barry had even left us bread, butter and milk plus tea, coffee and salt and some nice biscuits and jams etc. This was such a nice little extra touch. We cooked in the hut most evenings and while you must remember it is compact, we had no trouble making our dinners, breakfasts etc. The showers were always powerful and hot! Again it's quite compact in there but my partner is 6"1' and he managed fine. The location is great, we didn't have a day where there wasn't something to do. Bude is a 5 min drive away with easy parking for the beaches, markets, walks and more! It's a lovely stop, plus areas like Tintagel and Boscastle are in easy reach, no more than 40 mins drive, and have such amazing things to do such as St. Nectan's waterfall and the Museum of Witchcraft etc. Honestly, we wish we could have stayed longer. We want to come back when we next have the chance, if you currently undecided let this review sway opinion as you will have such a lovely and relaxing time. Thank you Barry and Ann for such an unforgettable week!
We are so happy you enjoyed your stay at Westering sun, and hope we will have the pleasure of hosting you again soon Kind regards Barry and Ann Property Owner

"Really enjoyed my stay at the Shepherds hut."
It was very well equipped and prepared for my visit and the location was lovely. Very quiet with great views and a big comfortable bed. The owner Barry was very helpful and obviously keen that everything was spot on with basic provisions such as bread and milk provided for my arrival. The only drawback was an erratic wifi connection which didnt allow internet connection for a lot of the time. My 02 mobile connection worked fine. I didnt avail myself of the hot tub or barbeque but maybe next time if the weather is better.
The time of David stay it coolided with lifeboat fastival Jazz festival Bank holiday weekend Best wishes Barry Property Owner

"If you are wanting to get away from the hussle and bustle of everyday life and looking for some where quiet to get away from it all, then this is the place to do it."
Located in its own private setting overlooking a valley of woodland and a glimpse of the sea, with just birds calls and peace and quiet for company. Going back to basics, ideally suited for a couple of people, this a very clean and well maintained shepherds hut that was a brilliant base for our 10 night stay. Comfy bed, small bathroom with shower, toilet and wash basin, hot and cold water provides for all your personal needs. Small fridge freezer has enough space for stuff for a couple of breakfasts, with an electric hot plate you can put the frying pan on served perfectly for cooking bacon, steak etc. We took a plug in cool box that did the trick keeping the evening drinks cool . A table and two stools along with an electric heater, wood burning stove and WiFi completed the compact interior. Outdoor picnic bench and bbq for alfresco dining, with supermarkets only a 5 minute drive away we were never short of anything we needed. The owners were very friendly and made us feel very welcome, and added touches when we arrived were very much appreciated. They left us to our own devises but we're on hand had we needed them, which we didn't. All in all we had a perfect break away, just what we needed, with lovely sunsets, birds and wildlife in abundance, peace and quiet. Perfect. We would not hesitate to recommend this location to anyone wanting a quiet break away. Using it as a base to travel out each day to the many lovely places to visit or just to enjoy the tranquility of its setting. We will most certainly be returning to here in the future. Thanks again for lovely stay
