"A very comfortable cottage on a quiet (but very steep) road."
Located approx 1 mile from the cliff-top promenade at Babbacombe Downs, above Oddicombe Beach and the lovely coast. Convenient for shops, takeaways etc. Possible to walk to Torquay Marina, but a few miles uphill on return, so best to use the (frequent) buses. Very comfy beds and sofas. Generous welcome pack. Some basic maintenance would have made the stay much better though: front door sticks very badly at the bottom, which I couldn’t budge and my husband had to ‘strong arm’ it open each time; patio doors off the dining room and the (very welcome) french windows onto the upstairs balcony all have very worn keys/locks and are very hard to open/lock. The several sitting out areas in the (almost unoverlooked) garden would have been great with more comfortable chairs - small folding wooden chairs led to sore backs after a few days, making it difficult to relax properly outside. Surely it’s not too expensive to provide more comfortable outdoor seating? Cupboards in dining room (containing crockery etc) smell damp/musty). And lastly - the ‘Smart’ TV was one of the factors that decided us on this cottage, but it isn’t connected to / set up for the internet, so we had to make do with terrestrial TV. Not sure whether that is the Owner’s listing or Sykes’ at fault but it needs attention. I did try to contact the owner to check but they weren’t available for a few hours and I gave up on it.

"Just Perfect!"
We've holidayed with Sykes for many years now and Summer Cottage was our favourite by far. Spotlessly clean, comfortable, tastefully furnished and in the perfect spot. The terraced garden was a welcome sun trap and the view of the church beautiful. An easy walk to the precinct - take the road past the school rather than the steep alley - and Babbacombe Downs were also just a few minutes walk away. The local bus service is second to none. Day trips along the coast from Dawlish to Paignton, we took the ferry to Brixham one day too. I can't recommend this accommodation enough. Very private, tucked out of the way but still central. 5 stars! Thank you, Helen & Family.

"We had a great stay at summer cottage, the location and facilities were fab."
-
"It would be nice if there was a clock in the property so that is quick and easy to glance what time it is."
Some larger pint, glasses would also be nice but besides that an excellent property in a perfect location. We’ve already booked for next year for our third stay!

"This was our second time in the property and we had just as good a time this time as last."
The property was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. It’s well located and I would definitely recommend it.

"We really appreciated the key safe so that we could look after our own arrival and coming and going, knowing that the keys were available if part of the family wanted to come back at any time."
Also, the box of goodies was very much appreciated after a long train journey. The house was terrific, the garden lovely and the location was an unexpected pleasure, especially for a last-minute booking! We would definitely like to return and walk a bit more of the coast path.

We had a wonderful holiday at Summer Cottage, and would like to congratulate the owner on the comfort and facilities an excellently stocked holiday home

"Our group of friends had a great time staying at Summer Cottage."
It is a great base to explore the area and when you are home there's everything you need to cook a meal or make breakfast if you prefer eating in. The position of the property is great. Free parking outside, and it is a short walk (5 minutes) to St Marychurch, a quaint village that we liked much more than Torquay. Babbacombe and Oddicombe can also be reached on foot. At Easter there where supermarkets open til late which made it easy to plan dinners. The house was clean and comfortable.

"Lovely house."
Very clean. The owners had thought of everything and had all the little things you might forget to take. They had hand soap, washing up liquid, tea towels. Kitchen was well stocked. Nice decor also, much to my taste! Only down side was the hill. Whilst unpacking the boot a football and toilet roll went rolling down the hill! It wasn't funny at the time, but we are laughing about it now. It will be a memory from that holiday.

"Very comfortable house and bed."
Private garden, sheltered spot . Also, close to shops. Co-ordination of colours in rooms. We loved the house.

"The hill on which the property is situated is very steep and not easy for parking."

"Great location and property."
The only issue is the water pressure for the shower.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, we are glad you enjoyed your stay at Summer Cottage. Following your feedback, we have installed a mains pressure shower, delivering constant hot water. Property Owner

The only problem there was a damp smell in the kitchen from behind the washer and fridge and you could smell it as soon as you walked in apart from that the cottage was ok

"The accommodation was fine and more than large enough."
Perfecly clean - many thanks to the cleaners! Comfort: nice bedrooms and comfortable lounge. Brought our own wood (none provided) to use the wood burning stove. Facilities: the shower water pressure was as low as advertised but compensated for by a pack of bathing salt to use the bathtub instead; enough crockery and cutlery for 2 people (4 or 5 people will run out after a day and will have to use the dishwasher daily). Some more smaller water and wine glasses that fit into the dishwasher may be nice. Bought a simple can opener and donated it to the kitchen utensils box.

"Summer Cottage in St Mary's Church area of Torquay was very clean and cosy."
It would benefit from a combination boiler as shower pressure wasn't good but we managed. The host left us some freebies but I would recommend you take oil, foil, salt & pepper, toilet and kitchen roll with you especially if cooking breakfast so you don't have to buy. Washing up liquid, T bags, coffee, sugar, milk and biscuits provided. We couldn't find a can opener or pen to complete customer satisfaction form on leaving but found everything else we required. There are plenty of Dvds and games for an evening in or sit in garden for drinks. StMaryChurch precinct is a short walk from the house and all amenities are available butchers, bakers, fishmongers, supermarkets, cafe. Good mobility is required as house on steep hill but Devon generally quite hilly in parts. There is loads to do take funicular railway to Oddicombe beach for South West Coastal walk or relax on the beach and take a dip in sea, lovely once you are in. Along the Coastal path you will come across Cary' Arms were they do a superb Sunday Roast again on a steep hill. Anstey's coast has a cafe were you can relax and have breakfast or take a dip, again down a steep hill but steps help on way up. In StMaryChurch itself you can visit bygones museum, gardens or miniature railway and visit the local pub Molloys for afternoon drinks. You can catch the 22 or 122 to Torquay next to Co-op public transport very good we never used car once. A visit to Totnes to Pie shop to eat is recommended but maybe try to book, some lovely shops. Cockington village worth a visit too very pretty and lovely walk. Take boat from Torquay to Brixham worth a day out . Or visit Newton Abbot to have the best cider in Ye Olde cider bar one of the last remaining original cider bars in the country. Torquay itself looks a bit tired in parts but harbour is nice. Finding somewhere to eat out was a bit of a mission but not sure if this is due to staff shortages with pandemic. We did eat in Thai restaurant in St Mary's Church and food was very nice. My first time visiting Devon and I would say the people we met made it, very happy smiley people and all informative about the area. All in all an enjoyable break to Devon and Summer Cottage.

"We enjoyed the cottage but the shower was unusable due to low pressure."
We bought a new shower head which helped slightly and the owner advised us to keep the immersion on, which was kind. However, the lack of a working shower was very disappointing and inconvenient, The owner explained the only way to fix the problem was a new unit. Unless this is done we wouldn’t recommend booking if potential guests appreciate a shower in the morning. If you’re a bath person go for it!

"The cottage was perfect and cosy."
It was great to be only a short walk in to Babbicombe and it was only a short drive to Torquay and Brixham - all lovely places. At the end of the day, having the cottage's garden for a few drinkies and great weather, was a bonus. Jane and Mark xx

"Authentic and historical building but with carefully designed interiors!"
Easy check-in, easy communication. We loved outdoor terraces where you can have a breakfast and chill. Enjoyed local charming streets in St Marychurch and magnificent seaside of Babbacombe!

"The cottage was very comfortable, in a great area for exploring."
The owner was extremely helpful. It is on a very steep hill, which probably isn't an issue for most, but could be for people with mobility or breathing issues.
-
"This is a charming cottage in a great position near the main street of St Marychurch."
The cottage is beautifully decorated, well equipped and spotlessly clean. It's easy to park nearby which is a bonus. We had a lovely week enhanced by good weather and we wouldn't hesitate to return.
