"We are elderly and we were unable to park our car outside the back gate to unload our luggage etc."
The 'driveway' was too narrow, it was a struggle for us to walk from car parking area to the cottage. This is not a complaint just thought it worth mentioning but maybe worth mentioning This is not a complaint !!

"We had a fantastic stay at Michaelmas Cottage."
Beautiful enclosed garden for our two little fur babies. Such a lovely cottage with that rustic feel. Drewsteignton is a beautiful village with plenty of walks, including Fingle Bridge and also mentioning the re-opening of the Drewe Arms, a lovely welcome and scrumptious food (fish n chips were beautiful). So many things to do in the surrounding areas, we had a lovely walk around Fernworthy Reservoir. Would highly recommend this beautiful cottage in the heart of the Devon countryside ❤️

"Absolutely stunning thatched cottage."
With a private walled garden. Very well stocked kitchen so you can cook whatever you wish. The cottage was very clean and warm. Never had to use the heating. Beds were comfortable. Toys available for children. Comfortable lounge and TV. 2 bathrooms with showers in both and a bath in one. Say it again Stunning! Everything you need to relax after a long day at the beech or a long walk in the mountains.
-
"Our second stay at this gorgeous cottage."
It feels like a much loved home rather than a characterless holiday let and the garden - WOW! The kitchen is so well equipped and the beds are very comfortable. Would be great if there was a tumble dryer as no where to dry clothes when it rained. Drewsteignton is a beautiful village and it's fantastic to have The Drewe Arms open again and only a short walk from the cottage. We will definitely book again for next year - thoroughly recommend.
-
"This was our 6th visit to Michaelmas Cottage so that says how much we love it and have already booked for next year!"
It’s a great cottage, very homely, and well equipped. The location is great for dog walks around Fingle Bridge and many small towns and villages are just a short drive away. So pleased The Drewe Arms is back open and it still has the same charm and quirkiness it had before. Paul, Charlie, Harry, Izzy, and Harvey.

"Delightful property in a quiet location."
Tastefully furnished and well stocked kitchen, useful information, books and games provided if required. Couldn't find fault at all.
-
"Lovely comfortable holiday home, have visited before and will be back again."
Spacious with everything you would need in the kitchen. Perfect enclosed garden and fitted stairgates for dogs. The sleeping accommodation (even post COVID) is perfect for two couples or friends, with separate staircases at either end of the property.
-
"We really enjoyed our stay plenty of room nice big kitchen with lots of utensils pots and pans etc."
Living room was very comfy nice big rug in the middle Separate ends upstairs was good, we used small bedroom as a dressing room, lovely walled garden just right for our dog. Great location, parking for two cars
-
"The cottage was just as we expected."
It was very well equipped - we were even able to make a birthday cake! The showers were hot and powerful. The self contained garden was lovely - full of birdsong and very tranquil. We had 3 cars but there were no problems with using the nearby free village carpark for one of them. It is a shame that the village shop and two pubs have closed although there are efforts to re-open one pub. We enjoyed exploring the local area.

"A simply beautiful cottage in an idyllic location in Devon."
This was the best cottage we have stayed in and have already booked again for next year. The walled garden was a perfect place for us and our dogs to chill after long walks in the gorgeous Dartmoor area. The kitchen is modern and well equipped and both bathrooms were well fitted with excellent showers. The lounge is comfortably furnished and there is a TV in all main rooms as well. A lovely place to stay in a fantastic location.
-
"Lovely comfortable stylish cottage with great views of the countryside from outside."
Well equipped kitchen. Comfortable beds. A restful week spent at the cottage with friends, enjoying the pretty walled garden. The only downside is that both the village pub and store have closed in recent months so nowhere to buy any groceries without getting in the car, which in itself is an adventure as all approaches to the cottage are down single track lanes. Plenty of places to visit within a 20 mile radius. A walk to Fingles’s bridge and pub is worth the time, around 25 minutes away. Also a drive of 15 minutes to The Post Inn is worth it especially for the good Sunday Carvery.
-
"It was a very well equipped, clean, cottage which was very comfortable."
Nearby to some stunning locations to visit too!

The property was really lovely exactly what we needed for a break with 2 families it brought us together thru the day but gave us our own privacy at night

"A very spacious and pretty property."
Very well maintained and equipped. Good for accessing Devon attractions.
-
"This was the 5th time we had stayed at Michaelmas Cottage and will visit again."
The cottage is great and fitted out to a high standard. It's in a great location for walks and a good base for exploring other local areas. It's a shame the Drew Arms is closed and no shop now in the village but not a major issue, The Fingle Bridge Inn is not too far away and is a great spot next to the river. We will return for a 6th visit at some point.

"In listing please state - no dogs upstairs - then it is not a surprise when you arrive and see it on notice in kitchen."
Was a little surprised to see we had to deal with previous persons rubbish and put it out for the binmen. I have stayed in several Sykes cottages before and never have I had to put other peoples rubbish out
Hi there. We do state our dog terms in the booking conditions and we are sorry this was missed. It sounds like the previous guests had not dealt with the waste properly so we apologise you were met with this. - Helpful Holidays. Property Owner

"Probably the best equipped and comfortable cottage we've stayed in."
Thank you!
-
"This was one of the best equipped properties we have stayed in."
It was very clean and comfortable. There was a little shop a few minutes away selling fresh bread, milk etc but it was about 20 minutes drive to a small supermarket. The garden was lovely to sit in to enjoy breakfast on the patio. The approach road was narrow and meeting a tractor and other traffic was quite common. There are some lovely walks nearby and because of the heat when we visited we choose mainly wooded outings.
-
"Beautiful cottage and location."
Can recommend The Post at Whiddon Down for great food. We had great weather so spent lots of time in the lovely garden on the very comfortable garden furniture.
-
"We had a lovely stay in Michaelmas Cottage."
A very clean and well equipped place with everything you could wish for during your stay. It is in a very good position for exploring Dartmoor with a great walk from the cottage to Castle Drogo and round to Fingle Bridge and back. The Drewe Arms in the village did some great local ales and a lovely evening meal. Overall we would highly recommend this cottage.
-
"We found the cottage very relaxing and felt comfortable here."
It was easy for the dogs with the enclosed garden and direct access from the kitchen, installed child gates on the stairs were great too. It was all cleaned to a high standard and I would recommend to non dog owners, families or anyone who needs to relax. Great location for exploring Devon.
-
"A beautiful cottage with plenty of space."
Well maintained we had a wonderful stay, the cottage was lovely and warm too. (April was a bit chilly) would recommend it highly. We took our two dogs with us and the stairs gates were great for keeping them downstairs at all times. and our Old English sheepdog loved the cool stone kitchen floor! this cottage is a credit to its owners and the lovely cleaner who done a first class job.
-
"We had a lovely stay and cottage was great."
Just wanted to say that the single mattress in bedroom above kitchen was very uncomfortable, lots of ridges and may need replacing or at the very least, turning?
-
"Thank you for a lovely stay."
Such a beautiful cottage and location. Was perfect for the occasion.
-
"We very much enjoyed our stay at Michaelmas Cottage."
It really is a home from home with everything you need for a relaxing holiday, from comfortable beds, leather sofas and a kitchen with every gadget and utensil you will need. The location is stunning with its own walled garden and only a short, albeit uphill, walk to the village with a little shop and a quaint little pub that is well worth a visit or two. Stunning walks out to Fingle Bridge Pub and if you like your cycling be prepared for hills a plenty! Highly recommended and we will be back for sure.
-
"Great space full of character and really well kitted out."
Love the big dining/kitchen ideal for our two dogs and the big lounge with Netflix and a big TV - ideal for me. The upstairs was really good with the conversion from two cottages resulting in two independant bedroom suites and bathrooms, The huge walled garden was beautiful, and would have been enjoyed more if the weather was warmer. Friendly local pub with food 5min away welcoming dogs as well!

"One thing which would have been helpful is to be able to switch radiator on in ..."
One thing which would have been helpful is to be able to switch radiator on in bathrooms to dry towels - we had good weather so were able to put them outside, otherwise they’d always be damp
Thank you for your feedback. The switch for the radiator is above the bathroom door, we apologise if this was not clear. Property Owner

"The cottage was beautiful and location was amazing."
Facilities were great though unfortunately the washing machine broke down whilst we were there. The owner tried to get it replaced for us and arranged for us to have a bottle of wine in recompense. The welcome pack was also very generous.
-
"Lovely cottage and great place to stay with local walks."
Shame that the local pub has shut down but plently of good pubs close by.
-
"The house keeper is amazing."
Spotless property as always.
-
"We thought the garden was lovely."
Also, it would be helpful to leave the information folder where it can be seen. We found it rather late on and missed some information on putting rubbish out.
-
"Wonderfully welcoming haven with easy access to some of the best walks on Dartmoor."
Easy access off the moor to reach nearest beaches and City of Exeter together with arterial road and rail networks. Very enjoyable, relaxing Christmas ... thank you.
-
"The cottage was delightful, very comfortable and cosy but still plenty of room for 4 adults and 2 children."
Huge kitchen, lovely large table would seat 8 with no problem. There is almost every possible cooking implement in this kitchen, however we couldn't find a pair of tongs (minor thing). Nice secure garden with ample space for the dogs to wander. The split of the bedrooms is ideal as it allows for an element of privacy if required. The cream tea that was there for us upon arrival was lovely except for the cream, something was not right about it!! Not a complaint but whoever supplies it might be worth double checking. Something that might be worth putting in the information is that there is a large amount of books and magazines available to read, DVDs, games suitable for adults and children and several jigsaws. This information would have been helpful to us as we took a lot of things in order to keep the children entertained in case of bad weather, but we wouldn't have if we had known there were things at the cottage. Again, not a complaint just an observation to help others in the future. Overall a wonderful week at a lovely cottage.
-
"Lovely cosy,very clean,well equipped cottage."
Perfect in these exceptional times of covid as we were two couples from different households and as there were two sets of stairs both leading to a double bedroom and a bathroom (plus a single room) we felt safe. There was a lovely cream tea plus eggs and milk waiting for us. The cottage is well placed for visiting the area with lots of lovely walks from the door, perfect for the dogs as is the lovely enclosed garden. Would definitely stay again.
-
"There was building work going on either side of the cottage so no peace in the day during the week."
Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry to hear that you were disturbed during your stay. The thatching next door has now been completed and the potential for noise disturbance from any construction work nearby has now passed. Property Owner

"Michaelmas Cottage, Drewesteignton."
4th – 11th September 2020 We have no complaint about the cottage itself – it is exactly as described on your website, and it is comfortable and well fitted out. However, as you will be aware, we were warned by telephone around August 21st that some potentially disruptive building work was being undertaken on the cottage next-door-but-one. After an email discussion, we agreed to accept a discount of 10% to reflect the change of circumstances, with the proviso that we could contact Helpful Holidays if the situation was not as described, or became worse. When we arrived at the property, we were surprised to see that the cottage immediately next door was covered in scaffolding in preparation for re-thatching. There was a walk-way all around the cottage overlooking the walled garden of Michaelmas Cottage. The privacy of the garden had disappeared completely. We quickly realised that this was not the building work we had been discussing with your customer care team, but a completely separate project. We therefore had had work going on both sides of Michaelmas Cottage! After several attempts and long waits on the telephone, morning eventually I contacted your company on Monday and told them about the new situation. My call had been transferred to your head office, and the gentleman I spoke to appeared to be unaware of the second lot of building work. He asked what were my expectations. It had previously been established that there was no alternative accommodation in the area, and he asked if I was seeking additional compensation. I asked if someone from Helpful Holidays could simply drive to the property (only 4 miles from your local office in Chagford) to confirm what I had told him. He said that he would speak to the owners and a local representative, and get back to me. This did not happen. The thatchers duly arrived to strip off the old thatch, and on the following day re-thatching started. Meanwhile, the three builders’ vans and the thatcher’s truck were parked about 18 inches from the kitchen and sitting room windows with constant to-ing and fro-ing. I will say that the builders acted considerately and made as little disturbance as possible, but the whole thing was a major disturbance on our privacy and enjoyment. We certainly would not have booked the cottage if we had been aware of what was going on. It is extremely disappointing that Helpful Holidays did not get back to me, or visit the property to assess the situation. I trust you will respond urgently. David Gillett
Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. We’re delighted to hear how much you liked Michaelmas Cottage and that you found it exactly as described. We’ve discussed the situation with the owner and they’ve advised us that had they known about the thatching work taking place (which is now complete), they would have informed you in advance (just as they did with the other neighbours building work). Thatching is an amazing traditional skill to see, but we appreciate you found them being next door disappointing. We are glad to hear the builders were quiet and respectful and do hope that the steps we took to outline possible disturbance were well received. We hope that overall you enjoyed your stay on Dartmoor and we hope we’ll see you again soon. Property Owner

"A really lovely cottage."
Well stocked and clearly loved and cared for by owners and caretaker. We had our dog with us and the property was great for her too. The garden is fully enclosed, although the gate does have a few gaps so if you have a particularly tiny chihuahua then keep an eye for an escape attempt...the cottage is on the edge of the village, and only a short stroll away, albeit up a very steep narrow road, from the lovely Drewe Arms. Worth the walk to pubs and church, and a lovely village shop. A cream tea on arrival was a nice touch and greatly appreciated. The only thing missing was an initial supply of logs for the woodburner, so bring a bag if you are thinking of using it. Overall, a really great place and great for a cosy week exploring Dartmoor.
-
"Absolutely lovely cottage is a great location for walking and exploring Dartmoor and the surrounding area."
Well equipped with everything you could need for a relaxing stay. We were a group of 4 middle aged ladies on a girls weekend and it exceeded our expectations. Would recomment the local pub The Drewe Arms which is literally 400yds away up a slight hill!! Great food and friendly staff. There is a Spar shop in neighbouring Chalford which is 3.5miles away - this stocks most things and stays open late. Exeter and Okehampton are only 30 and 20mins drive away respectively. Great walks from the village to Fingle Bridge and Castle Drogo and many more only a short drive away Welcome basket of cream tea much appreciated after a long drive from West Sussex

"Description & guidance was accurate we found everything as expected."
Mattress in right hand double was not comfortable & too hot
-
"Beautifully appointed in beautiful surroundings."
Great pub and restaurant in the village with good local shop. Everyone very friendly
-
"We had a wonderful week at Michaelmas cottage it was so comfortable and spacious and had everything that we needed and more."
We were also able to enjoy meals sitting outside in the beautiful garden. We had two dogs with us and it was so good to know that they were safe outside as the garden is fully enclosed. It was also so nice to find a welcome pack of eggs and a gorgeous cream tea when we arrived.
-
"Everything you could wish for and then still exceeding the expectation."
Marvelous house, very comfortable, absolutely pictoresque village with a personalised newspaper if you asked for it. Lots of things to do and see in area. The house was well equipped with modern and easy to use equipment, They even organised great wheather for us.
-
"Fantastic accommodation."
Stunning location.
-
"Our 3rd stay at Michaelmas Cottage and once again it didn’t disappoint."
A lovely, well equipped cottage with a great garden in a wonderful little village. Drewsteignton offers a great pub, The Drewe Arms, a traditional English village pub offering great beer and food. The Fingle Bridge Inn is also close by offering outstanding views over the river and has some great walks on the doorstep. We couldn’t recommend this cottage enough and will be visiting again next year.
-
"This was one of the best equipped holiday homes I have rented, very good kitchen facilities, strong water flow shower, easy control of heating and hot water."
Quiet location with a large enclosed garden and various outside seating options. Small windows (presumably due to planning restrictions on a listed building) so relatively low level of natural light. Village shop and pub a five minute walk away albeit up quite a steep hill. Plenty of country walks from the door although again it is a hilly area. Chagford is a small town about 15 minutes away by car with most of the shops one needs.
-
"Absolutely superb cottage, great location, fabulous garden which was totally enclosed (great if you have a dog) furnished lovely, beautiful log burner and just a couple of hundred yards from a super pub the Drewe arms and a great restaurant the Old Inn."
Well stocked little post office in the village which is handy and just 5 minutes from the A30. One of the best cottages I’ve stayed in
-
"This is a beautiful cottage and ideal for two families."
The stair gates are excellent ,good for preventing dogs and toddlers from going upstairs. The garden is also very secure. The walk up to the village is quite steep,so not really possible with a pushchair.Fom the main road it is a narrow road to the cottage, but there are plenty passing places. The cottage is very well equipped ,the cutlery drawer is just below the hob.Lovely walks at fingle bridge and Drogo castle which ar e 5 mins drive away. You do not need to pay at Drogo castle to go far a walk,It’s £2 to park for 2 hours ,walk back out of the car park entrance and access to the walk is about100yds on the right.you used to be able to pay for the gardens only, but now the charge is £12 for the house and gardens. You can take a dog into the gardens if kept on a lead.Lots of places to visit with children within a 40 min drive .
-
"Yet another brilliant HH cottage in a friendly, happy, little village."
The walled garden was totally secure for our Saluki, who had room to run and run. Local pubs are welcoming and the walks from the cottage are numerous and mostly well marked, Thank you for a relaxing peaceful week away.
-
"Michaelmas Cottage was a wonderful place to stay."
The owners had thought of everything that you might need for a great holiday including lots of gadgets in the kitchen; cling film and tin foil; lots of dvds, cds and board games; a lead to connect my laptop to the tv; and a pair of binoculars to borrow! It was a beautiful cottage in a lovely location.
-
"The cottage was beautiful."
Very clean and nice decor throughout. Extremely well equiped kitchen, fabulous enclosed walled garden, which was great for our two dogs. Only a couple of things could have improved our stay, a garden table umbrella to shade from the sun, which we were lucky to have all week, more bathroom towels as there were not enough for 6 adults. The village shop is very good, as is the local pub and you can walk down to Fingle Bridge in 30min through the woods for a meal. We did all enjoy our stay very much, Dartmoor is a special place . Fiona and Jim Avey

"Although the Easter weather was a little disappointing Drewsteignton is a lovely little village surrounded by beautiful countryside."
The cottage was everything we expected and more. It is beautifully decorated and has everything you need for a peaceful relaxing break. The moment we opened the door we felt at home. The hot cross buns and Creme eggs were a nice touch too. From the initial booking right through to the end of the holiday, Helpful Holidays and the host were exceptional.

The property
This pretty, thatched cottage is tucked away on the edge of the picturesque Devon village of Drewsteignton.
One of three lovely cottages hidden from the lane, it is brilliantly peaceful.
From the garden, you step into a big kitchen with dining area, and from there through an arch into a lovely cosy sitting room with electric stove.
In traditional style, two separate staircases lead you upstairs, one to two bedrooms with a bathroom, the other to two more bedrooms with shower room.
The two upstairs spaces don't connect, so are handily private for two families or couples.
The lawn garden is charming, enclosed by high walls and with loungers and table and chairs for relaxing in the sun.
This is a lovely area for walking from the village, with footpaths criss crossing through woodland and beside the River Teign.
Enjoy drinks or a meal at the riverside pub, Fingle Inn (5 mins drive), National Trust Castle Drogo (6 mins drive), Drakes Farm shop (milk, bread, meats etc- 3 mins drive), Drakes Café (fab breakfasts, meals coffee and lots of farm animals to see - 3 mins drive), Cheriton Bishop Convenience shop (mini super - 7 mins drive), village pub the Drewe Arms is re-opening in March 2024.
