  • "The property was perfect for our stay - spotlessly clean and modern and in a great central location to access everything in Stoke Gabriel including the Mill Pond which is just at the end of the lane from the cottage."

James is an exceptional host, providing all the information we needed and answering our few questions quickly. Stoke Gabriel itself is a beautiful village with some good amenities - a superb village store and post office plus some excellent places to eat and get a drink, all within walking distance of the cottage. The other thing to note is how friendly and welcoming everyone was in the village. Everything - the accommodation, the location, the village and not forgetting beautiful Devon itself, made for a really enjoyable and relaxing stay, thank you.

  • "Very comfortable property with all the mod cons."

Couldn't fault anything inside the house but the garden area had been neglected. The outdoor dining table was so rotten it was unusable which was real shame as we had the best weather for outdoor dining this year!

Really well equipped and very clean ! Beds lovely and comfortable . The only small thing- the settee very low and not particularly comfy but overall a great place and well done to the owners!! Would certainly stay again and recommend to friends .

So peaceful and well situation almost in centre of the village. Spotlessly clean and lots of little extras like hand gel torch spices and lovely welcome. Would have stayed longer but already booked out. Lovely planting in the garden and birdsong on morning and evenings

The contact Beth was exceptional in her attentions. The Dart tributary is 5 min walk so is the well stocked store with Post Office and two pubs that are different but equally welcoming.

Requires a bit of maintenance on the windows, the seals have perished (which are replaceable) so woke up to dripping windows every morning, other than that would stay there again.

Good quality furnishings, a high spec kitchen and a lovely secure courtyard for our 2 dogs. We had a wonderful stay. My only very small suggestion would be to provide some bowls for visiting dogs.

  • "This was a wonderful holiday commencing the moment we opened the door to “Dart Retreat”."

The accommodation had everything, well presented, spotless, comfortable, roomy, light with all the latest modern facilities. The garden area was a sun trap with comfortable seating to while away our day eating and drinking alfresco. I must mention the local area and the people in it. Beautiful walk to and along the river finishing with lunch at the local riverside cafe. In the evening a trip to the local Castle Inn where Becky made us really welcome and the locals such as John made us feel at home. Definitely on our list of places to return to. Thank you to Dart Retreat and thank you to Becky and Friends. Bernie, Mandy and Jim

So glad you had a great stay Bernie, hope to welcome you back again soon. James Property Owner

We were there for 2 weeks, I did speak to your office before we went as I wanted to ensure we would have clean bedding for our 2nd week, I was assured we would but this did not happen. If I had booked 2 separate weeks the house would have been cleaned and had fresh bedding.

I would suggest a few things. The back yard is a sun-trap and it would be a good idea to get a parasol. Also, on occasions, it would be nice to have a higher table (and parasol) in that area to allow eating comfortably. We loved it.

  • "Lovely warm, comfortable apartment with a great location."

The holiday was spoilt by a rude neighbour, she referred to us as, ‘You Tourists’, who thought it okay to let her house guest use the allocated parking space for the Dart Retreat. We asked her to let us know when her guest.was leaving, as there were no free spaces left on the car park, so we could move our car. Later in the week we came back to the apartment when again another car was parked in the allocated space and someone had removed the nameplate which identified the Dart Retreat parking space.

  • "The house was very clean and bright and in a great location."

there were however 2 problems that affected our enjoyment of this holiday break. 1. The blinds in the main bedroom, once let down, could not be rolled up again. This meant we had them down all day and we had no view from our window. This had clearly been a problem for the previous tenants as there was a comment on the blackboard in the kitchen for comments. We phoned the contact person who contacted the owner, but we were told the owner had said the blinds needed a replacement part that had to be ordered. This was all very annoying. 2. There were no instructions about how to turn on the central heating, and despite several attempts we were unable to do so. This meant we felt cold in the evenings and were sitting with rugs and blankets round us. These problems need to be addressed by the owner urgently.

The colour scheme was really nice and peaceful it even felt like when you sat in the lounge the garden felt part of it as the colours all flowed through. There is a very nice patio area with comfortable garden furniture and a nice BBQ. The area is very pretty with 2 nice pubs and local store. The store stocks every day bits and piece but not fresh meat. Sainsburys is approx 2 miles away if you needed BBQ foods. Would difinately return

  • "Great holiday home, very well located."

Home from home everything has been thought about, would be outstanding if it had a balcony like a lot of the other properties as the views would be great. One tiny negative , the stairs were a little bit slippy as no carpet on them so just take care.

I rang to ensure that the 'twin' room was made up as a double as per the property description, however on arrival, this instruction had not been actioned even though I had been assured there would be no problem with my request. There was lots of information of how to dispose with rubbish ecologically but no instructions as to where to take/leave it.

  • "The holiday cottage was brilliant."

The owners had thought of lots of little things to make our stay easier. They had supplied little things like handsoap, washing up liquid, toilet roll, coffee, tea and milk. Really made the stay easier. Well equipped kitchen, clean and tidy living room with a great TV. The master bedroom was really luxurious. I was initially concerned upon booking that there would be pet hair as dogs are allowed at this property. This wasn't the case at all! It was fresh and clean. The village of Stoke Gabriel was pretty with great amenities. The house is a two minute walk from the Mill Pond, which is really beautiful. We wore wellies and waded in the water. Lots of children were enjoying crabbing. The village shop was well stocked with friendly staff and the park was brilliant for the kids. We got takeaway pizza from a local pub which was also great. We don't often go to the same house twice but would definitely visit this one again!
