  • "Arrived to extremely cold house - had to sleep fully dressed for first two nights."

Poorly maintained house and dirty bedding. Had out of date medicines in kitchen cupboards that would be accessible to children and toddlers. Great shame - as it’s a beautiful area and we would have returned. Could not recommend - out of 21 stays with Sykes Cottages, this was by far our worst.

The property has central heating and radiators in each room. There is a thermostat at the entrance that guests can use to adjust the temperature. We have a professional cleaning company that cleans before each guest. We look out for any items left that could cause problems and move them out. The property is in Dartmoor National Park and it is a beautiful area. It is good for reaching Dartmoor destinations, West Devon and East Cornwall, as well as Plymouth. Property Owner

The cottage was exactly as stated and ideal with it's 3 bedrooms . The 2 downstairs have a shared shower and toilet, and upstairs a large double bedroom and bathroom with a lovely corner bath and overhead shower and toilet. The kitchen was small but had everything needed and a big lounge, dining room with good WiFi and TV, DVD player etc. The village shop was not far away and it was a short drive from all the facilities of Tavistock. We would recommend this place .

  • "An absolute gem of a property in the beautiful village of Horrabridge."

The property is very accurately listed on the website, a lovely upside down house and perfect for our needs in a pretty cul-de-sac with friendly neighbours. Easy access to the main road, plenty of parking spaces and short walking distance to the village shop, fabulous old bakery and the two local pubs. We ate at both and can highly recommend. If you have children with you there is fantastic Weir Park a stones throw away with climbing frames etc. We loved it and shall return!!!!

The property is a upside down house no mention of it in listing parking is not on site it’s first come first served in parking bays one night we had to park on the main road lucky we didn’t take the dog as the garden wasn’t safe secure as fence was broken lots of cobwebs floor in main bedroom very bouncy when you cross the room unsafe no carbon monoxide or smoke alarm & turning bedside lights on very difficult with switches behind headboard main bed hard & lumpy bad smell of dogs in main living room

There is an allocated parking space in the car park 10 meters from the house. It is not marked but guests have the right to take a space. Very occasionally the car park is full. In that case guests may park on the road at Church Park. There are spaces within 20 meters. One fence panel blew over in strong winds. The fence was replaced within one week. The property is thoroughly cleaned by professional cleaners before each visit. The bedroom floor is standard and safe. There are smoke detectors upstairs and downstairs and a carbon monoxide detector upstairs. There are also torches and fire extinguisher. The beds are comfortable. We accept one small dog and clean and aerate afterwards if there has been a pet. The living room is upstairs and is spacious and light. Property Owner

Holiday property offers good value for money. Great village location with everything you need within walking distance. Communication from owner was quick and friendly. No direct access to garden and ‘upside down’ house layout was not ideal for us as and our dog! Also key code could be put on Sykes property details.

  • "An absolutely lovely house and location."

I would recommend it. There are just a few details to mention. The double bed mattress is solid, I struggled to sleep as the mattress is so hard. The microwave keeps microwaving although the timer has stopped. The toaster worked but I had to hold the handle down as it kept popping up. As for the size and location of the house, fantastic, just a perfect place to get out for a walk on the moors or visit local villages.

  • "The house was very spacious and clean."

The fudge and cookies were a lovely surprise and were soon devoured!! Bed was comfortable and agree with a previous comment, would benefit from some drawers. Two things stopped me from giving it 5 stars... Upon arrival, we found a key in the key safe, which was for the yale lock on front door, had been snapped in half and just left. We could still lock the door by using the mortice lock but, had the yale catch dropped, would have been stuck. Secondly, although there was a small enclosed garden, there was no direct access from the house. You have to leave the house, walk around the side and enter the garden via a gate. This is not made clear in the description and was very inconvenient when our dog wanted to go out, especially thru the night. There is a torch on the lower level but did not work due to flat batteries!! These things are small but did have a negative impact on our holiday. Would definitely recommend the cottage but not to those taking a dog.

Everything provided to make this a comfortable stay. Comfy beds, quality induction hob and useful to have the small freezer inside fridge although it could do with defrosting. Good amount of seating and nice size dining table. Downstairs shower very decent upstairs needs a replacement shower head holder as it’s cracked so the shower attachment doesn’t stay in place. Also needs a lightbulb replaced in the downstairs bathroom. These are just small things and didn’t affect the enjoyment of our stay - just letting you know. It was a nice bonus with the piano, smart tv and DVD player. Also thank you for the fudge and biscuits - would definitely stay again.

Would suit active older mixed group, with toileting up and down. Excellent view in this upside-down house, but rear garden is barely worth using (stairs + car parking to rear). The front garden has more mileage. Excellent village location and facilities - a sheer delight.

  • "Lovely place quiet great for getting into Dartmoor park and south to the coast."

Rather unusual being an upside down house - a first for us. The garden isn't accessible via a backdoor. I read another review about the mortice lock to the front door being difficult. Indeed it is. Once we finally got in we didn't use it again for the duration of the stay. The only facility lacking would be a dishwasher but hey ho you can't have everything. I tried communicating via the mobile number a couple of times but received no answer. I was only able to get hold of the owner via email but again no real problem. There was no information about what to do with the recycling and rubbish and in the event one of the neighbours put me right.

We tend not to go to the same place twice as we like trying new places, but if we did, I would definitely stay at Moorside again. Horrabridge is a great location for exploring Dartmoor, and has very good access to cycling and walking routes in the area. About the location

HORRABRIDGE

Tavistock 4.5 miles; Plymouth 11.5 miles.

Horrabridge is a charming riverside village located within beautiful Dartmoor National Park in Devon. The River Walkham, well known for its salmon fishing, flows vigorously under the village bridge, which is said to be the oldest in West Devon. An excellent base for a holiday in Devon, Horrabridge has a combination of olde-worlde charm and modern facilities, including a good pub near the river and a selection of small shops. There are many excellent walks starting from the village, taking you up onto Dartmoor and providing you with glorious views of the surrounding fields and hills where sheep and Dartmoor ponies gently graze. The market town of Tavistock, the main town of Dartmoor's western moor, is an exceptionally attractive town, owing much to fine Victorian architecture and its picturesque location on the banks of the River Tavy. There is no shortage of shops and cafes in Tavistock, plus the town is home to the purpose built Pannier Market - a must for every visitor.
