  • "We met Amanda and Brook who were both really nice."

The second upstairs double bedroom which was very small was inadequate for two adults, there is no room for bedside tables, it wasn't ideal, an uncomfortable experience. We had a problem with one of the toilets where the seat was loose, a man came in and said he's done his best and it will be sorted out when we leave! We were out everyday for 8 hours so it could have been done then. When you are paying a premium these little things make all the difference. The upstairs bathroom toilet seat is too small for the toilet so your legs touch the toilet rim, it's not very pleasant and unhygienic. We couldn't put any shopping in the cupboards as they were they filled with numerous kitchen implements. The only cupboard that could have been used contained numerous spices which gave a heady and unpleasant aroma in the kitchen and throughout the property. As a result we ate out everyday including breakfast. The river is quite a walk away and entails walking through an area which resembles a scrap yard. I appreciate this is somebody's home which they love, however when you are staying at a holiday home which purports to be set in beautiful countryside perhaps the owners would be better off concealing the scrap in one of the barns or at least fencing it off. This would then be more in keeping with the front of the property which looks lovely, this is on different levels with pretty walls and flower beds. We met Amanda and Brook who were both really nice.

Thank you Kevin for providing valuable feedback following your stay. The small double has never been an issue before, we can appreciate that it is a smaller room but other guests have always found it adequate for their stay. I thought the 9 year old in your part was staying in that room and that the remaining four adults in your party were in the large king rooms? However I will ask Sykes to update the description to highlight that it is a smaller room and perhaps more suited as a children’s room or for one adult. The toilet seat was fixed as best that we could at the time, which was deemed as acceptable by yourselves, it was not flagged up as an issue again nor was the other toilet seat, however we will look at this and replace if necessary. With regards to the kitchen, we keep herbs and spices, condiments etc so that guests do not have to purchase all of the pantry essentials for their holidays. Our guests have always been grateful of this little touch and have loved to cook in the kitchen. I am so sorry that you found the smell that offensive that you felt you had to eat out every day for every meal, I could have easily removed them for your stay had you have mentioned it. I will pop the spices in a container to store them from now on. I am surprised that for a four night stay that you were unable to find enough space for food, our larger groups of 8 staying for 7 nights have been able to move items around to make space. I can however reorganise the kitchen easily to make more obvious room, so l will certainly do this. With regards to the walk to the river, it’s ten minutes from the house, guests generally appreciate the walk. Any large estate or complex has an area in which materials and equipment are stored, we are no different. This area is current being reorganised. This is well away from the property and not visual to the premises. There is another way to the river which takes guests through the courtyard, which runs down a grass track which is the more scenic route. I wish you had mentioned these matters to me during your stay as there were plenty of opportunities whilst the boys were playing together in the gardens. We work extremely hard to ensure our guests have the best experience during their stay. Thank you again for the feedback and really pleased you enjoyed the gardens. Property Owner

  • "Amanda and Anthony, made us feel very welcome and we loved the property and it's secluded, beautiful location."

The valley is stunning, the river walk and fishing hut are set in unspoilt countryside where wildlife seemed to flourish. We saw Kingfishers, Buzzards and heard a few owls too. My daughter thought it was a fantastic place to stay and wants to go back! Thanks to Amanda, Anthony and Sykes for a wonderful holiday.

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide feedback Wayne. It was lovely having you all to stay and hope to welcome you all back again one day. Property Owner

We were a party of 8 including 4 young kids, and we all enjoyed the cleanliness, the field, BBQ!, and the walk to the river and other excursions in North Devon! Our host was lively and wonderful, the house was immaculate. The best cottage we ever stayed and we have been to many nice ones before.
