  • "We arrived late afternoon after 6 hour journey from London."

The house appeared to have not been cleaned, used towels still in bathroom, and bed left as last person got out of it. Communicating this to Sykes was a long laborious process dealing with three separate departments and getting cut off after about 5 minutes holding on. Eventually two ladies came and did a thorough clean and left house clean. It’s a nice house with parking for one car 4 minute walk away.

  • "Having stayed at Northcrest House several times over the years we feel that it deserves some TLC to bring it up to the standard expected."

It is looking extremely shabby from the outside, paintwork in need of attention, front garden full of weeds. It's a lovely house, but is looking a bit neglected. Kitchen well equipped, lounge spacious and comfortable, main bedroom needs fitted sheets that actually fit. On a positive note, the views of the estuary from the kitchen and bedrooms are fantastic and Coast & Country are an excellent company to deal with.

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave comments. I do agree with you. There are a number of things in the process of being updated - but it all seems to take longer than I would like! The sofa covers are new, new mattresses in triple room with new curtains, and new bedding covers and duvet in the main bedroom, new blinds in living room and kitchen. The gas hob is about to be replaced with induction. There were plans to repair the front of the property a few months ago, but for various reasons this had to be delayed, and I am hoping that this will be achieved within the next year. (It has to link with work on the lower flat). I think there was a communication issue with the gardeners this year, as they seem to have forgotten about 2 Northcrest (!) - hopefully this has now been sorted out. Property Owner

  • "Beautiful cottage in a fantastic location."

It is situated at the top of a hill so lots of leg work getting home! The cottage itself was very well equipped, spacious and the most amazing views! The only issue we had was with finding the parking space however, when we found it we couldn’t access it due to works going on in the car park. I would love to return and would happily recommend it to friends and family.

  • "Parking place extremely difficult and very steep to get into very rough lane down ."

Property light and airy with wonderful views at back . Very well equipped in the kitchen with plenty of room . Good location and lovely showers and bathroom which makes it a shame the kitchen surface is unsuitable for rented property as deteriorating wood . The covers for dining chairs and sofas visibly grubby . A great shame for a nice clean propert otherwise . White or cream covers not good choices.

  • "Lovely property and we had a great stay."

There were one or two niggles, as below: 1). The blinds in the living room - on our first evening I let both blinds down and they were fine when we went to bed - in the morning, both sets of canvas had fallen off the rollers and were in a heap on the floor. As the canvas is only stuck to the metal roller with sticky tape, this is bound to keep failing - quality blinds of this type usually have a slot cut along the length of the metal roller so the top of the canvas can be pushed and fixed into it. I would politely suggest that the owners replace what they have with some that are made like this. If they fix what's there, it will fail again. I did make them aware of the problem and I presume it will be rectified promptly. 2). There is a significant draught coming through the double-glazed master bedroom window. It's actually coming in through the part of the window that opens, along the left and bottom edges. That window doesn't look very old - as a double-glazed unit it should be sealed, it's been poorly made. If it is still under warranty the owners would be well advised to contact their supplier so they can fix it. Apart from the draughts, it doesn't keep out the noise of the local seagulls, who like to land on the roof and squawk loudly at dawn! 3). We had trouble locating the parking space - some slightly clearer directions as to its whereabouts would be welcome. As it happens I didn't use it anyway because it is far too small for my Insignia - you would only get a very small car in it. Also, as there was a vehicle was parked alongside it, and another one in front of the adjacent garage, it was impossible to turn round. This meant we would have had to back out right down the long lane every time we wanted to go out. I did this once and that was enough. As the walk from the space to the house is so long, it seemed pointless going through that pain anyway so I parked on the streets. 4). When we arrived the kettle was broken - I only mention this because the owner came straight round and replaced it so I just wanted to say, excellent service! Aside from these niggles, the property is sizeable, has loads of character, was clean and well equipped. The views from the kitchen and master bedroom are truly stunning. I think the price is fair, considering Salcombe is a very upmarket seaside town. I was impressed that someone came around with a new kettle the moment I reported that the one supplied was broken - this was excellent service. Highly recommended.

  • "Didn’t find the parking space the directions were not accurate enough , a washing line or tumble dryer would have been hugely beneficial as the airer wasn’t sufficient for getting beach towels washed and dried for the following day."

Loved the house and views from kitchen and master bedroom

  • "Although we enjoyed our stay - views were wonderful, considering we went at the start of the season, the house really needs a DEEP clean, refresh, clean seats to sit on instead of “white” covers, cushions and dining seats turned grubby from the amount of use over the years."

The house is in a prime spot, therefore top facilities are expected, especially cleanliness. Spent a lot of time trying to clean off mould from washing machine, dishwasher, dirt from everyday use in cupboards, fridge, worktops etc. even mopping kitchen and bathroom floors in order to be able to make use of what was on offer! The “front shared garden, patio area?” does not provide a pleasant seating area due to being full of bins and garden rubbish. Location should also be made clearer via the agents as specifically asked if very uphill walk back and told no. It is, plus lots of stairs in the house!

  • "The property itself, has everything you could actually need from a holiday let with the most incredible view from the kitchen and main bedroom."

However there are a few things that could be improved. 1 - the blinds in the bedrooms are shocking! I was awake at 5am everyday with no chance of getting back to sleep as no light is blocked out. 2 - the sofa and chair covers are in desperate need of being either deep cleaned to remove dirt/stains or replacement. They appeared to be very dirty and it was quite unpleasant. It is a shame this property does not benefit from a proper seating area. We did not use the benches at the front as these were shared, next to the bins and also on the street with no privacy. The Parking spot should be made a little clearer on the confirmation emails as to how to get to. We were looking for a bank! It's a bit awkward to get to but wasnt an issue apart from unloading and loading the car o arrival and departure. We parked on the double yellows which wasn't great!

House very well equipped especially the kitchen. Parking available down the lane but spaces opposite during the duration of our stay. The only downsides were the bed was incredibly uncomfortable and a lack of blackout blinds which made the light spring evenings with children tricky.

  • "Great location & lovely views."

Well stocked kitchen & clean environment. Parking space very difficult to find- perhaps use what3words so it’s a bit more easily locatable as it’s not obvious at all & parking opposite house is very competitive. The stress of trying to find the allocated parking spot on arrival was immense. Single bed mattresses need replacing as had backache after a night’s sleep as mattress was of poor quality.

  • "We had a brilliant stay at 2 North Crest house."

The views were incredible and location was perfect for us. The only negatives were that the carpets had clearly not been vacuumed for a while - there were clumps of long dark hair all over every carpet in every room. It was quite disgusting! As it was August BH weekend, rather than complaining I spent an hour hoovering the house. It was thick with dust around all furniture etc where it had clearly not been moved for a long time - not great for allergies either. If this is a cleaning company then I would definitely have a chat to make sure they are doing what they are getting paid for! The other thing would be to add curtains in the children’s bedroom. The blinds don’t do a lot, so it is very bright early in the morning and hence they woke up super early each day! Some cheap blackout curtains would make a world of difference. Overall we loved our stay and would love to stay again next year.

  • "We love this flat, have booked it for years, and always a year in advance."

Unfortunately 1 of the weeks is already booked for next year so we're looking elsewhere. Its sad as we love it so much. We put up with the lumpy beds, poor pillows and nowhere to dry clothes but now will look elsewhere. Also, being managed by Sykes is problem, calls routed through to Chester, staff who don't know where you are and just repeat what's on the computer screen is poor. Before we had personal contact- now it's like hanging on to British Airways or any other big corporate.

  • "It needs to be made MUCH more clear that the parking is not near the property."

There is no outdoor space for drying washing and although there is a towel rail, for a family of 5, this is not sufficient. The property would really benefit from a dryer. Both bedrooms had curtains that were insufficient and were very tired. However the kitchen was well stocked and the shower room and shower were great.

  • "We had a lovely stay in this spacious accommodation."

It was well equipped - microwave, washing machine, dishwasher, large fridge/freezer towels. The property was clean. Parking was easy to access and clear instructions given - it was a 2-3 minute walk back up the hill but there was plenty of space outside of the property to unload/load the car on arrival/departure. The property is in a great location, only 5-10 minute walk away from the harbour. We would recommend a stay here.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. We were so pleased to read that you enjoyed your visit to Salcombe and that the property was able to meet all of your requirements. • "We found the parking difficult."

On arrival another car was parked over part of our allocated space, so we had to park across the space. We didn’t use our car for several days, but the next time we did we had an unpleasant letter under the windscreen wiper, telling us we should not park there as we were blocking them from turning. We managed to turn so not sure what it was all about. After we saw someone else parking their car in the space and photographing it we decided it was safer to park on the road ! As it was obvious to whoever was cross about the parking where we were staying, they could easily have spoken to us directly, instead of leaving an unpleasant letter. I think you should warn other guests to be very careful when they park in the space provided, as there is obviously someone who is bearing a grudge.

However the ‘shared garden’ was a little disappointing as it was just a gravel patch next to the bins. Also the car parking space was right at the back of the property down a long steep gravel drive, quite a distance from the property but still beneficial. Great week of sunshine and wonderful Salcombe! Would definitely stay here again

However, it would b beneficial to have black out blinds or curtains in the bedrooms. 2 North Crest is a lovely house, very well equipped and welcoming. Unfortunately the cleaners were very behind on our arrival date and I don't think the property was cleaned as thoroughly as it should have been. We had to wait for the key due to the lateness of the cleaners but the bottle of wine from Coast & Country was very much appreciated.
