"If you are looking for a modern, marble, glitzy stay this is not it."
Its a secluded, peaceful "log" cabin - reminded me of a ski lodge - fully equipped, comfortable, spacious and warm with loads of space outside. I suggest you do need a car to stay here but plenty to go & see in any direction. Would stay here again

"This was the best place that I've ever stayed with my family."
We instantly loved the location, the garden was perfect and the river was such a bonus and it was so relaxing, listening to it everyday. The Lodge itself was instantly warm, cosy and very clean.. We had plenty of space and the new sofas were really comfortable. The Lodge was decorated beautifully and well equipped with everything we needed and it had lovely furnishings. Our dog thoroughly enjoyed his stay too and we could tell he didn't want to leave. The surrounding area was lovely. We would love to come back next year, we can't wait to return. Thank you, from each of us, for such a special holiday.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review we are so glad you enjoyed your holiday it makes it all worthwhile. Regards John Property Owner

"A beautiful location with an excellent enclosed garden, luckily our young dog hasn't discovered swimming yet and happily kept away from the river at the bottom."
I'm sure this lovely roomy Lodge was very comfortable back in the day but unfortunately the living area furniture is so tired that sitting in the evenings was rather uncomfortable. There was plenty of kitchen equipment although I didn't manage to find a coffee machine/cafetiere which was disappointing. I think it's worth pointing out (for light sleepers) that the lodge backs onto the A396 so you do get some traffic noise even though the bedrooms face the front.

"As this was our second stay at valley lodge the first being may 2018 it was lovely to return although now painted grey and looking quite modern it was pleasingly very clean and tidy The lodge held a special memory for all of our group so we were all eager to return Sadly comfort has jaded the experience the double bed in the main bedroom I'm assured by my step son is not at all comfortable, he felt that it's probably past it's best and should be replaced all the other beds seem fine though."
But by far the most uncomfortable has to be the sofas in the lounge all of us struggled with them, awful things it felt as though one is constantly sliding off them That gripe aside valley lodge is in a stunning location surrounded with wildlife and the beauty of the exe valley it'll always be one of our favourite places

"What an absolute gem of a holiday accomodation."
Valley lodge is a beautiful lodge in quiet idyllic surroundings but still close by to all the sights to explore in the area. The river at the bottom of the large garden is stunning & we enjoyed sitting by it whilst watching the wildlife such as kingfishers, yellow wagtails & white throated dippers. The lodge is very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The lodge was spotlessly clean on arrival & has comfy beds . We will definitely be looking to return again soon.
thank you so much for your kind words its really appreciated you are welcome back at anytime regards John Farrar Property Owner

"I had to stay in my van every night as the bedroom was full of cobwebs behind the bed and I can't cope with spiders."
I tried to vacuum them but it sent too much dust about the room. There were old cobwebs everywhere. My husband slept in the van for the last 3 nights due to his asthma in the dusty room. The owner came to swap the main tv which wasn't working, which we appreciated. The towels all smelt musty so we tried washing them but there was no drier so we struggled to dry them. The owner did show us where to find more towels some of which were OK. There were only 5 wine glasses which were all different and the place is for 6 so that was odd, also a lot of the crockery was badly chipped and cracked. The place itself was in a lovely setting but we couldn't fully relax due to the lack of cleanliness. There were cobwebs attaching from the back of all the sofas to various things. The toilets etc seemed clean. As we were taking our parents away for a holiday I was very disappointed with these issues. Such a shame as although it's a lovely property in a great setting, I couldn't recommend it.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, we can assure you that Valley Lodge is cleaned on a regular basis, and there are (2) vacuums available for guests to use if needed. As mentioned, we travelled quite a distance to provide a new TV, but found the original TV in good working order - all instructions are provided in the welcome book located under TV. The towels provided were straight out of the laundry and were checked on our visit to you. Apologies for the missing wine glass, these have been checked and replaced along with some of the crockery. "Valley lodge is a fantastic place to stay and is one of the best equipped places that we’ve stayed."
We like to cook and the kitchen has everything you could ask for. The bedrooms were extremely comfortable. One minor improvement suggestion (this is in no way a complaint) would be to alter the living area layout. As a family we enjoy playing games (the games available were a nice touch) or watching a film together in the evenings. The current living area layout makes this a little difficult to have everyone seated together. You could consider moving the corner sofa to where the dining table is to create a “together” living area. Really enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

"I have just spent 4 lovely nights with my family and teenage grandchildren."
The lodge is very well equipped everything is thought of. It is set in a very large garden which is enclosed on three sides with open views across the river. Our 2 Frenchies loved the garden, although we had to watch them by the river which was flowing quickly. There is a gate to a dog walk along side the river which was a really good idea except it was not excisable as overgrown with brambles. Unfortunately previous guests hadn't picked up there dog mess in the garden. There was also a obnoxious smell from the septic tank overflow which wasn't very pleasant .The garden was lovely to sit by the river and just relax to the sound of the water. overall a lovely place to unwind and recharge. Follow directions given and not sat nav as it will not take you to Lodge only general location .

"Lovely well equipped Lodge, both for the humans and lovely dog touches."
Plenty of good quality towels and general kitchen items to make your stay comfortable. Good quality bed linen. Lovely large garden for the dogs, we did a final check and poo pick up before we left. Plenty of games for both adults and kids. I think we were slightly unlucky with the wifi but no drama.

"A lovely lodge, roomy, warm and cosy, well equipped and lovely treats on our arrival."
It is in a beautiful setting with a view and the sound of the lovely babbling river. It should be noted that it is next door to a visible working stable, and it can get quite busy, but hey if you like horses how bad. We were lucky with the weather and it's an ideal location to explore the gorgeous countryside and beaches in north Devon.

"Had 3 amazing weeks at Valley Lodge."
The accommodation had everything you could want. Even down to a jar of dog treats. It was lovely and clean and the outlook was fantastic. Came back really rested.

"We had a lovely stay at valley lodge, the lodge and garden were perfect for a family with children and dogs."
The owners were very helpful when we encountered a couple of minor problems and were rectified immediately.

"Valley Lodge was all we had hoped for."
The situation was so relaxing, the rooms and bathrooms were so well equiped and to a high standard, everything we needed was there. The river is about 50 yards from the door and ideally safe and such fun for a 10 and 7 year old. Handy location for good pub meals nearby and close to the lovely town of Dulverton for essential shopping. First class.

"We stayed here in 2019 and would have returned, but 2020 was cancelled, so we booked for 2021."
The property was the same except that the warm wood exterior is now smart grey-and-slate. It’s clean and spacious, and has everything that a large group (sleeps 6) would need, including a dishwasher and a washing-machine, and except perhaps a small fruit or veg knife. There’s a fridge with freeze-box in the kitchen area, which has electric cooker and microwave, plus a large fridge-freezer in the walk-in larder, and the table seats 6. There’s a large en-suite bathroom in the Master, which has a balcony overlooking the big garden, plus a very large family bathroom with bath and shower, toilet and sink, and another small separate toilet. The garden is huge, bounded by fencing on 3 sides and the River Exe on the 4th, so perhaps not the best place for young children and/or small dogs. Our two Irish Setters, however, absolutely loved it, and this year I was lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a kingfisher, an amazing experience. There’s wifi, DV’s, games and books, but phone reception is only possible standing in the garden. It’s also not far to Dulverton, a delightful little town with several cafes and restaurants, a Co-op for groceries, and other useful shops. Tarr Steps is worth a visit, also Withypool, where there’s a small PO/shop and a cafe selling amazing cream teas, cakes, and main meals. Thoroughly recommend the Lodge and the whole area for sightseeing.

"The location was perfect."
So relaxing and surrounded by nature and wildlife. Ideal for bird spotters. Down sides are No paths for walking to pubs and 45 mins drive from beach. But we didn’t feel the need to go anywhere. Morrison’s was 8 mins drive away. Beds were comfy. I would definitely go back
