"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at 4 The Old Smithy."
The location was good and, being at the end of a cul-de-sac away from the road, it was quiet and peaceful. It was a nice comfortable cottage which I heartily recommend.

"We were very happy with the house itself and the location for bus services and local shops."
Everywhere was clean and comfortable and we appreciated the well equipped kitchen. The BBQ is now a charcoal one. We felt that the dining chairs needed replacing due to chewing of the legs. Ditto, 2 of the garden chairs where the wickerwork on the backs had been also chewed. Access to and from the bath was fine for us but may be tricky for someone less agile. It seems that the bath has been raised up, increasing the height of the rim. A walk in shower would be much safer. The upstairs toilet was very slow to empty.

"We've had a relaxing and enjoyable stay in this house."
It is clean, comfortable and well-presented and set in a quiet cul-de-sac with its own parking space. The local shops, pub and coffee shops are a short walk away. The coastal walks are easily accessed and other attractions are only a short drive.

"This is a nice quiet house in a cul de sac."
lovely neighbours. very close to the village, only a 3-4 minute walk, and 10 minutes to the nearest beach which has beach shops, restaurant and bars. seemed safe for children. Really accessible for Freshwater and Yarmouth and beautiful views can be found from the military road only 10 minutes drive away. The house itself has everything you need, and very comfortable beds and lounge furniture. The only negatives from the whole experience was a strange smell emanating from under the stairs, which could have been from previous leaks or maybe a large wooden chest that is there. We didn't look inside but just bought a plug in air freshener which masked the smell whilst we were there, the garden could have done with a weed, (but a lovely sun trap) and some tv channels were unwatchable as the signal broke up. None of these things bothered us too much ... but would have been a 5* otherwise. Would we book this property again...YES without a doubt

"We had another great stay at The Old Smithy."
Great location for getting to lovely spots and amenities on the doorstep. Thank you. We will book again.

"The main comment I would make that all the mugs in the place were seriously crazed and one actually craccked."
This is a health hazard. The other problem that has been going on for a long time judging by the warped condition of the wooden bath panel. The shower screen on the bath is useless, the water finds its way under it and you end up with a lot of water on the bathroom floor. I dont like baths so I had to use a bucket and a mop every day. This is not what you would expect from a holiday property. If they leave it I hate to think of the damage to the floor/ ceiling below.

Home from home. Close to bus stop for trips to yarmouth .

"Warm and cosy little house, well-equipped and tastefully decorated."
Good location for walking, especially around the cliff paths near Freshwater Bay and The Needles. It's also easy to get to from the Lymington -Yarmouth ferry. Thanks for a great stay.

Lovely place just as discribed only fault was the shower which was difficult to adjust and the water could be scoldingly hot be aware

"The house was clean, well maintained and had a well equipped kitchen - everything required for a wonderful stay."
The location in Freshwater is ideal to get to from the Lymmington/Yarmouth Ferry - literally 5 minutes drive. Easy reach to the Needles (walked it in an hour round the coastal path), and driving north/east to Cowes/Ryde/Osborne - very easy, as was South/east to Ventnor/Sandown/Shanklin/Godshill. Lots of great tea rooms and places to visit - many recommended by the host in their welcome pack. Very well equipped kitchen - oven/microwave/washer/dishwasher and enough cupboard space for a weekly shop. Private and well kept back garden with table and chairs. All in all an excellent property in an excellent holiday location

We had an enjoyable holiday and enjoyed our stay. Shops and a pub being close is an added bonus.

"It was a lovely well equipped house, in a quiet location but close to the very good facilities in Freshwater village so no need to use the car."
The beach was within walking distance for younger people and just a five minute drive for us.

"Fabulous location, beautiful property, quiet residential area and absolutely perfect for us."
-
"Very nice property with lots of extras."
However the mattress in the main bedroom needs replacing as is very saggy and lumpy and we couldn't sleep in there. Apart from that, a very nice place to stay
Thank you for your comments. I am glad you enjoyed your stay. The mattress has now been replaced with a memory foam topped mattress. Property Owner

The property
This is a marvellous semi-detached eco-house in the village of Freshwater on the Isle of Wight.
Partly powered by solar panels, it has refreshing decor and is located right in the heart of Freshwater, making this an ideal spot for a family holiday.
Step through the splendid porch and enter into the rejuvenating, bright kitchen diner, decorated with calming creams, tans and mint greens, creating a soothing environment in this immaculate room, the perfect place for family meals.
The airy hall leads you towards the large family sitting room, with comfortable sofas sat in front of the TV, complete with Freeview and a DVD player if you fancy a cosy, lazy day.
The downstairs is complete with a cloakroom and storage underneath the stairs.
Heading up the stairs finished with exquisite spiraling handrails, they lead you to an upstairs with three dazzling, pristine bedrooms and a large, classy family bathroom.
To the back of the property through the patio doors is a patio area complete with contemporary furniture, a BBQ and lawned area, perfect to relax in after a long day of exploring all that Freshwater has to offer.
Freshwater sits at the most Western point of the Isle of Wight.
Despite being on a small island, it is a village with a whole lot to offer, including independent shops and cafes, along with more extreme activities such as surfing.
Outside of Freshwater, the Isle of Wight has an whole lot else to offer.
Just 5 miles away sits the oldest town on the island, Yarmouth.
Full of narrow streets and passages, it is a place that holds a lot of culture including Henry VIII's castle along with an array of surrounding beaches.
A stunning house set in an extremely interesting area of the Isle of Wight, most certainly a different place to spend a holiday.
About the location
FRESHWATER
Yarmouth 3 miles; Cowes 16 miles; Fishbourne 16 miles; Ryde 18 miles.
Freshwater is situated at the western tip of the Isle of Wight and consists of Freshwater Village and Freshwater Bay. Freshwater village offers a good selection of small independent shops, cafes and the West Wight Sports Centre and Indoor Swimming Pool. The magnificent high chalk cliffs, rolling downs and delightful beaches at Freshwater Bay and nearby Compton Bay attract many visitors and surfers all year round. The renowned Freshwater Bay Golf Club, which overlooks the English Channel has stunning coastal sea views from most tees and offers a superb day out for golfers of all abilities, whilst the area is a haven for birdwatchers, cyclists and walkers with many wonderful walks to be enjoyed not only on West Wight but across the entire Isle of Wight criss-crossing over a much varied island landscape. Locally, Afton Down (the location of the famous 1970 Isle of Wight Music Festival), and Tennyson Down are the most popular walks. At the foot of Tennyson Down is the Dimbola Museum and Photographic Galleries. The Needles Pleasure Park at Alum Bay with its coloured sand cliffs and chairlift to the beach is just south west of Freshwater, plus a little further afield on the north coast of the Isle of Wight is the premier yachting centre of Cowes. Osborne House (the former home of Queen Victoria) is located at East Cowes. The nearby Farringford Hotel on the edge of Freshwater Bay was once the home of the British Poet Laureate, Alfred Lord Tennyson, and many notable poets, authors and painters have been attracted to the area of West Wight over the years. With the seaside town of Yarmouth close by with its busy harbour and pier, shops, inns, eateries and impressive Tudor castle, this is an ideal base for an enjoyable holiday.
