  • "Great location."

Lovely cottage. Had a great stay and would stay again. Kids absolutely loved it. Location was great in the country side with good driving distance to great days out to different tourist destinations

  • "We had a V enjoyable stay."

However the cottage is Extremely remote with rds V narrow & blind bends which made driving difficult especially with the bad weather we had. The sofa by the window is extremely uncomfortable to sit on, both look lovely but are feather filled & basically squash to nothing when you sit on them. The bath is a roll top & high with shower over the top so care needs to be taken. I would suggest owners get a bath mat to put in the bath to avoid any miss haps of slipping. Bed was comfortable with lovely crisp white bedding. Plenty of utensils, hot water & heating. The path to property is gravel & the step up is a bit high with no grab rail for those that may need a little help. The windows could do with a good clean so as to enjoy the lovely scenery. We would not return but only because although it states it is remote we found it far TOO remote for us. Shops & pub take a good 20 mins to drive to down V tight country rds. Would recommend Rose & Crown pub. Excellent food & good price. Sherborne is wonderful with closed off high St for cars. Beautiful Abbey & a water mill just on the edge of town. Castle & gardens also a must see. Don't bother seeing the chalk man as it needs re chalking so nothing to see. Forgot to mention cottage has V nice secure garden with furniture & lovely fields/views to enjoy. We enjoyed our welcome gift & had a lovely stay.

  • "Charming cottage in a peaceful spot but less than friendly treatment from the owner soured our stay."

Having shown the owner broken crocks and glasses, we were made to feel rather uncomfortable. There are only 2 dinner plates for a two bed cottage, 2 broken tumblers, cracked mug, no cereal bowls - we made a polite request for replacements. He responded with a one and a half page letter left on the doorstep telling us to use the antique plates and bowls on the shelves (which whilst decorative are not dishwasher or microwave proof and some are cracked). There is also a fly problem. We have never experienced this sort of treatment before. We left the cottage cleaner than we found it. We will certainly not recommend this property.

Apart from a slight issue with the internet that Elizabeth promptly sorted, the accommodation was perfect for our needs. Being truly dog friendly and the garden being dog proof was great. The bottle and crisps were a nice touch on arrival. We were blessed with good weather and access to a barbecue would have added that something extra to the week.

We were looking for a quiet place in the countryside and that is exactly what we found. The cottage was tastefully furnished with fully equipped kitchen. We enjoyed the outside patio with drinks every night and morning coffee, too. It had a good fence around so our dog was happy to enjoy the lawn on a hot day. We hope to be back and would highly recommend the Maple Cottage.

Animals all around so may need extra vigilance with certain dog breeds but ours - and us humans - loved it! Host very friendly but unobtrusive too. Perfect for us. Will return.

  • "The cottage in essence has the potential to be really great."

On entering we noticed the kitchen worktops looked a bit dirty with marks and toast crumbs or similar. I set to with a cloth and some bleach and by the time I had cleaned the kitchen surfaces, kettle, microwave, handles and high touch areas, the water was dark grey with dirt. The bin cupboard had food waste both on the inside lip and the inside of the cupboard. There was a side board in the living area that was thick was dust underneath. There were lots of dead bugs collected in the light fitting. Ll the mirrors were smeared so i can only assume they we're cleaned with a dirty cloth or not buffed dry and clean. Considering that we had to arrive an hour later and leave an hour earlier to allow for enhanced Covid cleaning I found this to be unacceptable. I have taken photos. The TV was very small and very poor quality which for the price per week, and the remote location, really ought to be bigger and better, as there is little else to do when you are there, which is what we wanted but the TV was then an issue. The bed was really comfortable. The bathroom was well appointed. We would not go back.

Thank yuo for your feedback, I am very sorry you found flies and crumbs in the cottage. The cottage was checked before you arrived and as it was so very hot that day I opened all the windows so the cottage would be cool when you arrived so maybe a fly had entered the cottage but all the surfaces were spotlessly clean. The television is a new 32 inches JVC model and there is a new dvd player and a cupboard full of dvds to watch. We are out in the countryside but in the middle of all the wonderful places, towns, villages and seaside that Dorset has to offer with having the complete peace and quiet with the wonderful night skies. There is a very good selection of books and a chest full of games for adults and children in the cottage so I am sorry you found nothing to do in Dorset. Property Owner

Well greeted by Elizabeth on arrival and always around if needed. It's fairly remote which was just what we wanted - though still with good village shops not too far away. Loads of local footpaths / bridleways to explore - never did the same morning walk twice with the dog - new every time. And quiet country lanes for cycling too.

  • "Beautiful quite location and a completely enclosed safe garden for dogs."

Very comfortable beds. Bedding, sofas and cushions very good quality and clean, towels so hard we could not use them, thankfully we had taken our own, BUT rest of cottage is in need of a deep clean. Kitchen shelves you could write your name in, the skirting boards are thick dirt (not dust) and the walls need painting to cover the many scuffs and splashes. We did not feel clean staying there. We would stay here again but only if we could be assured that everywhere had been thoroughly cleaned.

Many thanks for your valuable feedback, we are very disappointed that one of our properties has seemingly let us down and not provided you with the experienced that we had hoped for. We will be contacting the owner of this property shortly regarding the points you have raised. Thank you again. Property Owner

The standard of the décor and facilities were exceptionally grand. The addition of a very generous 'welcome' pack was totally unexpected and a wonderful gesture. The weather was regrettably wet but there can be no doubt that in a decent spring or in summer this idyllic cottage would be a splendid retreat. That said it is not far from the tourist interests and the wealth of excellent places to eat nearby more than met our needs. I think it is quite likely that we will return.

  • "It was a lovely, beautiful cottage which was beautifully furnished and very well equipped."

The owner met us, showed us around and the left us alone. My only issue was that despite it all being on one level it was not so easily accessed for my wife who has limited mobility, to be fair it was not described as such, the entrance step was very high and no hand rail, the bath was also pretty difficult for her to negotiate but both were manageable with help. Unfortunately I had to do some work whilst there and the internet was not very strong, but again with a hotspot on my phone we managed, EE signal was superb. Overall it was a beautiful out of the way setting, several great places to eat and relax.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback, we are pleased you thought the cottage was well presented, I am sorry to hear you had some difficulties whilst at the cottage, we feel the property is well advertised online. We have never had any complaints regarding the WIFI before, so I am unsure what happened during your stay, we are currently changing WIFI providers and having a dish installed on the house, so this should boost the signal and the property will benefit from stronger WIFI. We loved the personal touches and the care package on arrival. If you like stargazing then the dark skies here are hard to beat, and Elizabeth, our host, offered to loan us a telescope for the duration.
