"A warm and friendly welcome with accompanying treats to a well maintained, cosy and comfortable property which is located in a quiet but beautiful corner of Dorset."
With its central location this property is a good base for exploring all the attractions of Dorset and there's a couple of good pubs a short drive away.

"No. Had a private conversation prior to departure."
-
"The cottage is beautifully furnished."
It is an idyllic rural setting that is hugely relaxing. A real get away from it all. The hosts are lovely and welcoming, and helpful. There are horses in the stables and the children loved seeing them every day.

"The kitchen had dirty plates, cups with brown ring stains on the inside and glasses with fingerprints on them…."
.it was disgusting but we cleaned them up…we had to. This really put the dampers on our week. We will not return here.’

"We had a lovely relaxing week away in a beautiful cottage in amazing surroundings so quiet and peaceful cows mooing in the background."
The cottage had everything we needed and more, rooms clean and tidy, lots of space for our dog to roam around. The owner was there to meet us, very helpful and gave us all the information we needed regarding the cottage and local area. Would highly recommend and i will be returning for another relaxing break next year.

"The cottage is in the middle of a dairy farm, lovely scenery, and stunning sunsets."
There are also stables on site. Mappowder Cottage is a nice size for a family of four, and dog friendly. Has WiFi, which is great as had two teenagers with us! Some board games, books and dvd’s in the cottage. Magnetic darts and bagatelle were the favourites. Elizabeth and Jeremy, the owners, live next door to the cottages and were very friendly and helpful. Thank you for the wine, flowers and crisps! Great base for exploring Dorset. Bowleaze Beach is dog friendly and parking is right next to beach. We also enjoyed the Heavy Horse Centre, which is also dog friendly. The only problem I had was getting in the bath for a shower, the bath is a lovely roll top, but very high for somebody with a dodgy hip. We had a lovely short break.

"Cottage in very poor, dirty marks on walls, dirty windows, dripping tap, Outside bedroom door."
Not very much crockery , electric oven was a night mare to use. Problems with locking door and gate. Furniture in very poor state, uncomfortable lumpy needs replacing. Would not give this accommodation more than a one star. This is the worst property I ever stayed at.
I am very sorry your stay was so unhappy. Windows have been cleaned in the last month. There are over 50 items of crockery items (plates , bowels, mugs etc. The cooker is an ordinary cooker and works the same as most cookers. There are instructions. The door opens perfectly and the gate has a secure latch. The two new sofas, replaced at the beginning of the year are handmade by Balmain and Balmain of Salisbury and are feather filled and of the highest quality. There is a 17thc chest full of games and antique table etc. Please see comments from other guests who seemed very happy. Property Owner

The location is rural and right in the heart of a working farm, we loved this..truely away from it all!

Dog friendly with a lovely enclosed garden to the front.

"Just returned from a wonderful holiday at Mappowder Cottage."
This was our second stay here and it didn't disappoint us. The owner, Elizabeth, is on hand if any issues may crop up (didn't need to ask her anything this time) and nothing is any trouble. The cottage is well equipped, clean and comfortable. The area is extremely quiet and very rural. Would definitely recommend this cottage and hope that you all have a memorable holiday.
Thank you so much for your feedback!xx Property Owner

"Lovely welcoming owner."
Peaceful location. Well equipped cottage with very comfortable beds, and a good size enclosed garden. However, sofas in lounge not comfortable and the outdoor furniture positively uncomfortable. The roll top bath with overhead shower looked lovely, but as it was quite high, with no handrail, or anti slip mat, one had to be exceedingly careful when getting in and out. We were aware of the rural location, but it did tend to get a little tiresome having to drive up to an hour each day to get to some of the places we wished to visit. Overall, a very pleasant property, and we did enjoy our stay.

"Pleasant little cottage, good place to escape and get some piece and quiet."
-
"I stayed there with my two fur babies for 5 days and the property was comfortable, well fitted, extremely well kept."
and I thoroughly enjoyed my relaxing stay. Kudus to the host, there is nothing I could think of that the property is missing. The location being quiet is close to all amenities. The welcoming bottle of wine was a great touch.. Thank you..
Thank you So much for your review, so pleased you enjoyed yourself. Property Owner
-
"We very much enjoyed our time in this cottage which was a cut above the average holiday cottage."
It was spacious and in a very peaceful rural location, the traffic on the long access drive was mainly passing dairy cows. The property is a bit remote in deepest Dorset with long drives down country lanes to get to anywhere of consequence. Ideal for a get-away-from-it-all break.
Thank you for your great feedback and enjoyed the dairy cows! Property Owner

"We stayed at Mappowder Cottage for a week from 29th April to 6th May 2022."
What a wonderful place to stay. The cottage is very well equipped, spacious and beds and sofas very comfy. The cottage is decorated with many pictures that Elizabeth (the owner) as painted. Pretty enclosed garden to sit out in the sunshine. Although off the beaten track, the cottage is in a great situation to reach Sherbourne, Winchester, Weymouth etc. We visited the above place including Blue Pool (beautiful) and Monkey World. Would recommend to anyone with or without dogs.
Thank you very much for your love comments. Elizabeth Property Owner

"Lovely cottage, warm and comfortable."
Quiet and peaceful area - just what we wanted. Experienced a couple of short power cuts, but host was immediately at the door to check we were okay and supplied us with candles. Would recommend to anyone who wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of day to day life.
Thank you so much, most kind of you to leave such possative feedback. Property Owner

"Lovely cottage in a farm setting with the log fire as a highlight."
We did have some issues with cleanliness on arrival which we alerted the owner about and she mentioned she had hired new cleaners this season. Otherwise a pleasant stay all in all and not too far from the main attractions and sights.

"We booked Mappowder cottage, as we were waiting to move into our new house which was taking longer than expected to complete."
The cottage was very comfy, cosy and warm during a very cold spell in late November early December. We had everything we needed to make our stay a very pleasant one. The bedrooms were particularly splendid with beautiful crisp white cotton linen and huge cushions which gave a touch of understated decadence. The bathroom again was beautifully clean and bright with a rather magnificent roll top bath. We found Elizabeth and her husband to be very kind and considerate hosts. As we were staying in the cottage for a month, it was like a home from home, with added the extra of beautiful country views and lovely walks for our dog along the safe and long private driveway to the property. Elizabeth has her own horses stabled a short distance away and has great facilities for horse lovers who want to bring their horse or horses with them on holiday. Even if you are not into horses, it is lovely introduction to meet the two very good-natured horses who make wonderful neighbours. It is a great place for a short on long break, as there is lots to see and do for all ages. It is also a delightful quiet place to spend some time just chilling. We would certainly recommend Mappowder cottage, we would have happily stayed there longer, if we had needed to,
Thank you so much for you your coments! Property Owner

"We have just spent a lovely relaxing weekend in this beautiful cottage."
It's peaceful and quiet location is just what we needed and to be greeted by three friendly dogs on arrival was just perfect :-)
-
"A lovely, cosy cottage in a quiet, rural setting."
Well equipped and with good facilities. The narrow country lanes may be challenging to some.
-
"The listing wasn’t clear to state just how remote the cottage is."
The cleanliness was not up to standard. Owner did ask about it as she has a new cleaner but there were many areas that needed a good clean.: windows, skirting boards, cobwebs, microwave inside, cooker hood, dust on some surfaces. Cottage was comfortable and bedding etc was all clean, everything we needed was there. Garden being totally enclosed was great as we could let dog out on her own safely. Enjoyed our time there but could have been even better.
-
"A wonderful week at the cottage with a fabulous host, beautiful surroundings and perfectly peaceful."
We have loved every minute and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Mappowder Cottage to anyone. Hopefully we will come back soon.
-
"Elizabeth is an accomplished hostess and very welcoming."
She is on hand if you should need to ask any advice on the area or want to see the animals, but doesn't intrude on your relaxation. There is so much to do in the area we couldn't manage to do half of what we wanted in the fortnight we were there!
-
"A lovely well equipped bungalow set in an idyllic quiet rural location."
Friendly welcoming hosts on hand if needed. A relaxing weekend enjoyed by us and our dog.
-
"A cosy cottage surrounded by beautiful countryside."
Loved being so close to a variety of animals. Elizabeth was a great host. She was kind enough to introduce us to her new born lambs and puppies. Would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing break. Very dog friendly. Nice local pubs included The Gaggle of Geese and The Fox at Ansty. Good location for Dorset attractions.
-
"Stunning location and wonderful farm setting."
Our daughters loved seeing all the horses, sheep and cows and the owners of the farm were so hospitable and welcoming. The cottage is perfect for a small family or couple and the bedding/bathroom/furnishings are all excellent! Very clean and everything worked!
-
"After multiple rescheduling due to Covid restrictions we managed a lovely 5 night break with extended family in this cottage and the one adjoining."
A charming pair of cottages, beautifully presented, well equipped, very warm, in a lovely rural setting. These cottages are down a long private drive, safe for walking and children to ride their bikes. The owners were resident in the country house next to the cottages, they were very welcoming and available if needed. There are stables, a dairy and a riding school which was an added attraction for the children in our party, daily visits to the stable doors to see which ones were occupied, and watching the riders in the riding ménage from Maple cottage windows. . The gardens had outdoor furniture for outside dining. Weymouth beach took us about 50 minutes through beautiful rolling countryside with amazing views. We visited the Gaggle of Geese pub in Buckland Newton for dinner one evening. Excellent food, friendly service and lots of outside space to allow for social distancing. Can recommend, as this was a five minute drive from the cottages. All in all can highly recommend both Mappowder and Maple cottages for a relaxed, rural stay but with easy access to nearby towns and beaches.
-
"Had a great week."
Hosts excellent but not intrusive. Everything we needed was there. 2 dogs with us and easy to manage them in cottage.
-
"Comfortable cottage, very friendly, enjoyed the week"

"We have just returned from a lovely week long break at this little gem of a holiday cottage."
It has everything that you need and is a great home from home. Elizabeth, the owner, was on hand at all times but wasn’t unobtrusive and greeted us on arrival, nothing was too much trouble for her. The cottage was really clean and considering the current climate with COVID-19 we felt completely safe. The cottage is out in the sticks with lovely views, walks on the doorstep and a completely secure garden, a must for us as we have a dog. The mobile signal is a bit hit and miss (we were on Vodafone) but that wasn’t an issue for us. We would definitely recommend this place and if we visit that area of Dorset again in the future won’t hesitate in booking again. Thank you for allowing us to spend time in your property.
-
"Having been to stay at Mappowder and Maple Cottage several times over the last few years, we thoroughly recommend the excellent cottages."
Very relaxing stay at the beautiful cottage which has been kitted out and maintained to a high standard. It is very peaceful and remote (but close enough to all local amenities) ; just what we like when in the countryside. Elizabeth the owner of the cottages is very welcoming and always helpful. We can't wait for our next trip back!
-
"We had a lovely stay at this cosy cottage in a very quiet location."
Comfortable with all you could need, and whilst more than amply heated, it was nice to light the open fire on the colder evenings. Loads of dog friendly places to visit within easy driving distance (we especially liked Bere Regis). There are also footpaths and very quiet roads all around the cottage itself (wellies are recommended for some paths if its been wet). All in all we had a lovely time - thank you
-
"We found the property to be first class far more than the average rented properties very spacious with quality furnishings."
The owners were very welcoming and laying on a very generous welcoming pack which we greatly appreciated. The property is situated a mile down a farm road easy to access. The roads in this area are mostly country lanes so a satnav is a must. The property has an open fire but we found it to be warm enough with the central heating and this was November we attended. Centrally located for the whole of Dorset just 30 to 40 minutes from Weymouth & Dorchester les than an hour to Lyme Regis & Bournemouth. If you are reasonably agile I would highly recommend the property for a really lovely country break " 5 Star plus".
-
"We have stayed at many cottages and this is our favourite!"
Wonderful location to access Dorset’s many gems particularly Lulworth Cove & Durdle Door . Sherborne is a must .. The cottage is so beautifully furnished and we were made to feel very welcome . The welcome pack is the most generous we have had The dogs loved it too !!!
-
"What a fabulous few days we had at Mappowder Cottage."
A really peaceful, tranquil retreat in rural Dorset. Very dog friendly cottage with a safe, flat walk straight outside and a secure garden. The perfect cottage for star gazing and waking up to birdsong. The welcome pack was generous and very much enjoyed - thank you! We’ll no doubt be back!
-
"Mappowder Cottage was very comfortable, clean, homely and inviting."
Everything you could possibly want was provided. The surroundings were beautiful and the owner, Elizabeth, was warm and welcoming. The welcome pack was good and the fresh flowers placed in the cottage was a lovely touch. The secure garden is secure for dogs and is very well maintained; a lovely place to sit and listen to the sounds of the countryside. The sunsets were a wonderful sight. We would certainly book this cottage again.
-
"The cottage is decorated in vintage style which was nice, there was a lovely welcome pack, but unfortunately the standers of cleanliness was very disappointing the dust was so thick in certain places that I could write my name in it, there was dirt between the toilet and the wall, black dust in the airing cupboard, dusty windowsills, the cottage really does need a deep clean it was not acceptable, I did speak to the owner who did rectify some of the obvious dust."
-
"The cottage was in an idyllic spot."
The views and the surrounding villages were exceptional. I’ve never seen so many chocolate box thatched cottages! The cottage was ideally placed for visiting both the coast and places of interest. Sherborne is an easy drive away, where a large Sainsbury’s was very handy! Sherborne itself is a real gem! The week went far too quickly and look forward to a return visit.
-
"A lovely cottage in the heart of the countryside, ideal for a getaway break."
Very comfortable and cosy with quality furnishings and fittings. The owner was friendly and provided some much appreciated goodies on arrival. There are plenty of attractions nearby - Dorset is a gorgeous place to spend time in.
-
"The Cottage was in beautiful remote location, very peaceful (sat nav advised)."
Cottage is comfortable and cosy. Well equipped with everything you would need. Owners were welcoming but didn't impose. The welcome pack was best we have had and we have been on a lot of cottage holidays. Really enjoyed are week in Mappowder Cottage and hope to return in the future.
-
"We had a lovely stay despite the snow!"
The cottage was extremely warm and comfortable and the owner Elizabeth went out of her way to make us comfortable. We will definitely stay again.
-
"An attractive and recently converted cottage with modern kitchen and bathroom, antique furniture and nice open fire."
Lovely linen and towels. Great location for walks and dog friendly. I believe you can also bring a horse! Welcome hosts live in the adjoining farmhouse. Some of the woodwork needs finishing and we found the bed a little soft, but otherwise a great stay.
-
"The cottage is a hidden gem in deepest rural Dorset."
We had our 2 dogs with us and it was ideal as there is an enclosed garden and wonderful walks in the area. The cottage was warm and spacious, and beautifully equipped, and the delightful owner had left us some welcome goodies which were much appreciated. It is an ideal base for walking and cycling. There are no nearby shops and the excellent pub is 4 miles away, so a perfect choice for a complete rural escape!
-
"Really lovely cottage in a wonderful setting - on a dairy farm in the middle of stunning Dorset countryside."
Easy access to A roads, which will take you to larger towns and interesting tourism spots. The landlord and lady are very welcoming, more than happy to assist with anything you might need, but otherwise very respective of your privacy. Great for dogs, our year old Springer absolutely loved it. Highly recommend the nearby Brace of Pheasants pub as well, delicious food. This was our first Sykes holiday, but based on this we’d definitely book again and certainly would book this particular cottage again. Thanks very much for your hospitality.
-
"We enjoyed the cottage, facilities and location."
The welcome pack was a nice touch and the owners were welcoming. Would definitely return.
-
"Comfortable and spacious cottage with generous welcome pack and friendly owners."
Situated about 1/2 mile up a farm road, ideal for dog walkers. Good location for visiting surrounding villages, towns and attractions. Lots of dog friendly pubs and cafés in the area. We would certainly visit again.
