  • "Lovely cottage in a beautiful setting overlooking a small duck pond and the Springhead Pub."

We were unable to gain access to the property until 16.30pm due to the cleaners running behind. No big deal and it gave us an opportunity to walk the dog around the village. The property was pleasant and there was a nice welcome pack for us our dog. We didn’t spend too much time at the cottage, and it was centrally located for the things that we wanted to do and see. We visited the Springhead pub a few times and found one of the elder female members of the team to be consistently grumpy throughout our stay. We understand the cottage is owned by the same owners and you receive a 10% discount on food and drink. Despite spending c £400 in the pub throughout the week, we were occasionally challenged on the usage of the discount if we were ordering drinks without food. This made us venture into Weymouth and try the delightful Rockfish restaurant and Dorchester where we enjoyed eating at Drgnfly. We would certainly have eaten more in the Springhead had we felt more welcomed by this one member of staff. We noted a brick BBQ in the garden which was a nice touch and although we didn’t use it, it was great to have that option. We have already recommended this cottage to friends as it was overall a delightful stay.

  • "We had such a lovely stay in Duck Cottage."

A beautiful holiday home in an outstanding area. We were initially concerned about staying opposite to a pub, but it was very quiet. The cottage was very clean upon arrival and a perfect size for a family of four (plus dog). The kids loved playing on the stepping stones across the river and our dog loved the walks around the fields, 5 mins from the front door. The welcoming basket was very much appreciated - especially the book of Dorset walks, which we used quite a lot. We did have a few minor niggles - we simply could not figure out the TV (even our tech-savy 14 year old struggled) and we spent most of our evenings up in the main bedroom watching the TV up there - this was a shame, as the living room hardly got used in the end. Our black bin was half full when we arrived, leaving us very little room to put our own rubbish in and we missed the bin collection day, not knowing when it was. There was quite a knack to locking the back door, but we figured it out in the end. The duvets were all VERY Heavy (tog 15) for a summer stay! That said, we would certainly stay again and very much enjoyed our time there, so thank you Duck Cottage!

Cottage was in an ideal setting (opposite a great Pub and alongside a flowing stream with Ducks on it sometimes!!). Dorset is a beautiful county and this cottage spoke volumes for the county. We felt completely at home in Duck Cottage (and so did our Pug) and would gladly go back for another week (when we win the lottery!!).

And in such a beautiful setting to complement it too. We had a great time there. Our only problem was getting the TV to work with the satellite box but, being elderly, that might have been down to us. The cottage was really well equipped, and we loved the decor too. • "Beautiful cottage in a idyllic village."

Well furnished, however, property could benefit from a deep clean. The shower in the bathroom seemed rusty (although we did not use it) and the dishwasher door did not open properly. The property was quite well equipped the only thing I saw was missing was a bath mat for when you got out of the shower. Probably too many saucepans! Which was good as we did not have to use the ones with metal handles. The welcome pack made me smile, duck food and dog biscuits, shame we didn't have a dog.

Nice pub and quiet village but with plenty of places to visit in the area. The cottage was fine- good sized bedrooms and bathrooms, well-equipped kitchen, secure garden for our dog; but there were some small niggles that would improve the experience E.g. back door had a knack to be able to lock it, no recycling bin. It was fine for our family of 4 but I think it would have felt a squeeze for 6 people. Overall it was a pleasant stay.

Grandaughters loved stream, and feeding ducks and welcome pack lovely gesture. Also handy having pub opposite which we made use of. Would return despite small issues.

Hi Pamela, Thank you so much for your lovely review, I am so pleased you enjoyed the cottage & your granddaughter enjoyed the Duck pond :) I am so sorry you experienced issues with the en-suite shower, as soon as we were made aware of the issue we rectified the problem. The stream outside the front door is beautiful and a treat for the children (so shallow it’s safe to play in). The village is idyllic and the locals friendly and welcoming. Ideally positioned for exploring Dorset, close to amenities yet quiet and rural. Homely touches in the cottage add to its charm. The addition of a parasol for the garden would be useful, but it’s otherwise well equipped.

The village is stunning and the pub on the other side of the duck pond was welcoming, had an impressive range of gin and a lovely menu. The cottage was lovely and the welcome basket was a nice touch. It was freezing when we arrived, and it took us some time to get the heating working (the boiler had been turned off!), and we were a little disappointed with the cleanliness (dirty shower screens and tiles, lots of cobwebs, needing to wash up oven trays and glasses before using them) and quite upset by finding a tablet (looked like prescription medicine) on the floor in the lounge, which could have been a big issue for a family with young children or a dog. A few more mugs and glasses would have been nice too, to save on the continual washing up. Beware also, the stairs are quite steep if you have someone who is less mobile (and there is no downstairs loo). That said it was a lovely cottage, well positioned and we loved watching the ducks out the window.

The best was the bottle of wine (waddling duck) to match the theme of the cottage and the Port and Baileys which we all enjoyed. It was lovely to watch the ducks, birds, dogs and children paddle in the stream right outside our cottage (including a few adults). The Cider, Dog and Sausage Festival was lovely on the sunday over "The Springhead", which was great, live music and lovely food and drink, and dog friendly. The rooms in the cottage were clean and comfortable, the mini toiletries were also a great touch. Plenty of utensils in the kitchen and hairdryers in Double rooms and showers were great. Plenty of storage in kitchen and bedrroms. We also enjoyed chilling in the garden and having a couple of bbqs. The footpaths and fields were great to take the dog for walks every day and Prston is only a mile up the road to walk to 2 chip shops, papershop/co-op and 2 other pubs. The Bridge pub did great food too. The only thing that would have made it better is if there was a downstairs toilet, there was a locked room outside to the left of the back door, maybe that could be turned into a toilet as one of our group was disabled.
