Just a charming simple cottage in a lovely setting, magically slows life down, a beautiful place to share with loved ones

  • "St Gabriel's Cottage is the perfect getaway to feel away from the hustle and bustle of our modern and busy lives."

It's location feels remote with excellent walking around Golden Cap and the SW Coast path, but in reality the house is only 5 minutes drive from the best Dorset farm shop (Felicity's) and 10 minutes from Charmouth and Bridport. We've stayed here for three years in a row and have loved it every time.

Wish we could stay longer. Only 2 days away from London + Now completely relaxed. The cottage has everything we needed. Next time we will book for a week.

  • "Such a beautiful "Away-from-it-all" Cottage."

We've had a wonderful week and return to the realities of the "real" world with lots of happy memories and a strong feeling of loss.

  • "What a hidden gem St Gabriels is!"

We all thoroughly enjoyed our ''off grid'' stay here in Dorset. The walks were beautiful and we lucked out with full sunny days. Our first time in this part of the world - we will definitely be back. The quiet evenings were just what we needed.

  • "Rang several times about a wasps nest and it wasn't dealt with or were we moved to another property."

I removed two dozen wasps and we were able to stay the night but more got in the following day (with all windows closed). I was promised a callback three times but never got one. I got a refund for one of the two nights eventually, but that appeared in my account. It was never explained that was the outcome. Not my style to complain but this warrants it. I have a three year old that couldn't sleep for fear of the wasps, and the whole thing was handled badly. Shame because the property and location are idyllic. Lovely old cottage. Bathroom is nice and modern, but the rest of the cottage is true to it's age. I should also note that there was no hot water in the kitchen.

We do apologise the the out of hours service did not respond to all of your communications. We did contact a local pest control specialist but as it was Bank Holiday they were not able to attend until after your departure. They did advise us that the insects were bees not wasps, and they have now moved on from the property. We apologise if this impacted on your short stay. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "What a magical place!"

We loved it so much - thank you. Delighted also by the absence of WiFi and mobile reception. We hope to be back.

Thank you for your kind comments. As well as being within the National Trust area the cottage is a haven if you are looking for a true escape from it all! The owner has now provided and t.v. with built in DVD player so that guests can enjoy the vast library of DVDs in the cottage. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

It is very peaceful with lovely walks and views along the cliffs. We have come every year for many years and it feels like a second home to us.

  • "Location is very remote."

No vehicle access unless you have a off road 4x4. The scenery is out of this world. But you need either tv or internet access.

  • "A gorgeous setting in a superb location."

Not having Wi-Fi/signal was a godsend and three young boys (2/4/6) had great fun playing tag/rugby/football passing in the garden. Unfortunately the holiday was let down by a few major points: a ridiculously small downstairs bed; a kettle that didn't work 95% of the time, the remaining 5% requiring you to hold the button down; a shower head blocked with limescale and pinched hose held together with electrical tape; electrical tape used to hold the bulb holder of a bedside lamp together; and an very strong smell of damp. We own an 18th century cottage and appreciate that whilst a certain level of dampness is to be expected within a property of this age the level within St Gabriel’s was excessive. The bedding felt constantly 'damp' and clammy, clothes felt damp when left out overnight and a leather handbag strap went mouldy inside of a week. Not to mention the effect on bread and other perishable food. I’m not sure whether there was an extended duration between the previous guests and ourselves but the smell was very strong and the walls visibly damp. Crumbs in the breadbin, a half-finished bottle of open ketchup, hair in the shower and general grit/grass on the floor on arrival suggested a lacklustre approach to cleaning. There should be mention of the smaller-than-standard-double sized bed which even without a pregnant wife was completely unsuitable in this day and age; it felt like the desire to cram two bedside tables in had led to that decision yet in reality all that happened when you decided to try not sleeping on your side was that you ended up headbutting one of the very sharp corners. That said, it was a nice week and the cottage is in a wonderful setting.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are sorry you experienced trouble with the kettle, we were unaware there was an issue, if you had let us know here at Lyme Bay Holidays, we would have replaced it immediately. This has now of course been actioned, alongside the cleaning issues. This wonderful, quaint cottage is 100’s of years old and part of it is constructed in stone rubble with no damp course on some walls and because of this it is affected by humidity levels. We find if it is aired daily this isn’t an issue. We do try to describe our properties honestly as wea can as we respect that everyone’s needs are different, and we try to note characteristics that may make the property unsuitable for some. This property is advertised as having a small double bed (4 foot) so our potential guests are aware that this is how the room is furnished. Whilst the majority of guests will have an enjoyable holiday in the properties we let, this isn’t always the case, so we welcome and appreciate your feedback as it enables us to improve the service, we offer guests and the standard of properties we let. The feedback we get on this property is usually very positive. Team LBH Property Owner
