  • "Dog friendly, perfect for our short break."

The lodge is situated in a peaceful and quiet area of the park, 10 minutes walk to the beach and 5 mins from a woodland walk. Was clean and tidy with plenty of space to relax. A few niggles, no welcome pack left which we normally expect eg details about the park, emergency contact numbers etc. The oven didn’t turn on and no booklet found. Besides that we enjoyed our time and would return.

Leave the cabin as you found it and what to do with the key would have been quite sufficient Otherwise enjoyed the holiday and will probably be back

Kitchen well appointed, comfy bed, no problems. The problem was the cost of using the facilities - £12 a day per person to use the pool. We wanted to swim but the price is too high. When we looked in the pool area, it was deserted. No real surprise there. A real shame as it looked fun.

  • "We read so very bad reviews just before our arrival but found them very unfair."

Apart from a slight doggy smell, expected if you hire to people with dogs, we found it comfortable, peaceful and clean. The site is very big and we wanted to use the facilities on site but were informed we could not use the restaurant. Not overly bothered by this we walked 20 minutes to the nearest pub which was excellent and then a taxi into the town for a small charge to other extremely good restaurants and pubs so perhaps much better than what was on offer in the complex. Overall, a lovely setting with nice walks within a nature park and the beach.

  • "The beds are like concrete absolutely no give in the mattress at all dreaded going to bed but since it was a toss up between there and the sofas which are equally uncomfortable and so low they were nigh impossible to get off without help."

Moving onto the lavatory seats that remained broken despite reporting them. There was no welcome note to let you know important information during your stay. Cleanliness.....we didn't go barefoot as the floor was sticky and gritty. Once we tracked down whereabouts of the hoover, we found it full with what can only be described as brown silt and dirt. So emptied and used it .....in the lounge we emptied 3 times to get the same brown dirt and twice more for the hall and the bedrooms. Window ledges were equally dirty. Our dog is a white dog and had recently been washed and groomed. On returning home she had to be washed again as she was yellow/brown. Towels provided are hard and tired.Cooking utensils and pans etc. really need to be replaced as well used and tired All in all this was a huge disappointment. As we are at the beginning of the season I would expect this to be in A1 condition where cleanliness is concerned and it was certainly not that. It is such a shame as the roof had been recently refelted and the lodge is in a very quiet cul de sac in such a lovely setting.

Thanks for your feedback, we have had a very busy season since February including Easter and apologies if on any previous occasion dogs have potentially come in from the rain and created any lingering odour. We have now had the carpet deep cleaned. We have repaired the toilet and will check the bed. We will replace the mattress topper on the king bed and will look at adding one to the single beds in the future. The sofas are 2 years old and we have not had any concerns re their height before but will monitor that. Property instructions are usually available but can occasionally go astray so we will look to replace them. The hoover is only a month old and moving forward we make sure that it is emptied every changeover. We will also check the utensils and replace if required. We are glad that you found the property quiet and in a lovely setting. Property Owner

We even tried to cancel it but this proved impossible. I had also been assured that the property was going to be closed for a month before our visit to clean it thoroughly etc which obviously wasn’t done. Pros: lovely park, great facilities, so much so we’ve booked another holiday there BUT THROUGH THEM NOT THIS ONE. Cons: shame I can’t add pictures. It was very dirty, there were soap marks still in the soap tray (old marks at that), there was masses of black hair in the plug hole, the cobwebs you could swing from, the beds were dreadfully uncomfortable and the bedding looked like had been used for decades and was a dull grey. The place stunk of wet dog on entering and so did the hoover. A couple of chairs were broken and dangerous the list goes on. Would never use that lodge again

  • "On arrival was amazed at the beautiful location of the lodge in a lovely cul de sac and spaced well from other lodges."

However at first sight you could see the lodge was very tied and in desperate need of TLC, cheap plastic chairs and a paste table on what could be a great veranda area (glad we did not have the weather to want and sit out there). On entering met with a stale smell of dogs. The lodge was very dated and again TLC was needed, but it was clean and we were left tea, coffee and milk which was a lovely surprise. The first thing I noticed was no welcome folder, with information on the lodge, information about the site and local areas, departure procedure which was a shame. Small tv in the lodge, the towels although plentiful was ok if you were a small child. The bed linen and towels could do with renewing as thin and bobbly, the mattress in the master room so bad that my husband had to go to another room, definitely needs renewing. The lodge despite the above comment was spacious, but would not stay again because so dated and tired, shame all can be rectified quite cheaply to bring it back to life.

The chalet is situated in a nice location on the holiday park. It has a nice end pitch great parking and space around it. It is a short walk to the beach, and there is a lot to explore in the area. But the property isnt clean, it feels like the property hasnt seen much care and attention in at least 10 or 20 years, someone is just milking it for the most profits. The gutter leaks right above the front door giving you a shower as you leave the property. Perhaps because the property is shut up for so long it smells and is hard to shift. The sofas on arrival had biscuit crumbs on them and underneath them is yucky (had to retrieve bits of lego). The bed linen is old and worn. The carpets are sticky to walk on, and when brushing up crumbs from our 5 year off the carpet the mess and dog hair that came up with it was incredible. At the price and rating of the property on the Sykes website, expected better.

No welcome pack, no information pack and cleanliness is clearly not a priority. The lodge was adequate but we don't expect to have to clean things before use when coming on holiday. There was mouldy food lodged in the back of the fridge, the sink underneath the bowl was dirty and generally attention to detail is missed, thick dust in candle holders and on lights, it just feels like it's had a quick wipe over surfaces leaving thick dust in nooks and crannies. We do not like to leave poor reviews but feel people should know what to expect. The photos and description needs updating as there is not a gas bbq or fire as shown. The outside table has a sharp edge where it has been broken. There is an ubundance of cleaning products available but I guess they're not used much! There were cobwebs everywhere, a couple of pillow cases were dirty (looked as though they hadn’t been washed) and table surfaces were grimy. Luckily, we had anti bacterial wipes with us. Then there was the wonky frying pan which didn’t sit safely on the hob and a lack of lighting due to missing light bulbs. The outside light was also broken and didn’t work. The lounge furniture was grubby and uncomfortable. On a positive note, the park is clean and tidy and very well kept and the lodge is situated just about as far from the main entrance as you can get so it was very peaceful. The door to the small twin room which has been mentioned in previous reviews has been replaced. After phoning the owner the morning after we arrived to say about the lighting issues, she arranged for maintenance to come and replace the missing bulbs and the broken outside light. I moved the microwave & toaster & was disgusted by what I found, stains, food debris & even a dog biscuit, no wonder we have an ant problem!! Also, the grill on the cooker isn't working. Although it ignites it won't stay lit. I resorted to the frying pan which has a very uneven base making it dangerously unstable. The corkscrew also has the top snapped off making it unusable! There is a whole panel missing out of the door of the smaller twin room & also in this room the battery in the smoke alarm needs replacing as it beeps continually. • "I've given 1 star as Shorefields is lovely and the chalet was in a good position however the property itself was filthy."

Not just a skimped clean but neglect over a period of time. The oven was too filthy to use, the grill pan was full of grease, the washing machine drawer was mouldy, no cupboards to put any food in so food was constantly covered in ants, dust and cobwebs everywhere, shower screens dirty, curtains frayed, piece of the door missing on a bedroom, cupboards too full of stuff for our things to go in but the worse was the beds, the sheets were stained and covered in bits and hairs. We had to root, around in one completely full cupboards, to find bedding to change them. The towels and bath mats were extremely thin and small, not sure if the mats were clean either. This would be bad enough in normal times but at present everything is supposed to be extra clean and sanitised. You send out intructions about extra cleaning, no cushions or books around, and then we arrive to this, stuff everywhere and no sign of any cleaning products being used at all. On emailing your company the initial response was that the owner would come and clean the oven. We declined, this should have been done already and was only part of the problem. We were then offered £50! The reviews and the 4 ticks for this property is misleading, apparently you never inspect properties so where do the 4 ticks come from, how can you know if they're fit for occupancy, as this clearly wasn't? I spoke to a different person each time and was just told it's between you and the owner although my contract is with yourselves, the only contact with the owner was a mobile number that no longer worked, as I'd already reported. I have photographic evidence to back up all the above.

Otherwise it was ok and we enjoyed our holiday.

  • "The country park where the cabin was is extremely well thought out and in a great setting."

When we went there was extreme rain and the shorefield staff were so intent on keeping exits etc open for the residents. The cabin was beautiful and very comfortable with excellent facilities. We had a slight problem and had to call the owner who was immediately down to help us. The only problems we had which did not spoil our time there was that the tea towels were clean however they smelled stale so we could not use them. The cleaning was a bit to be desired, corners in the bathroom and under the sink were very grubby. The bed linen was excellent and towels for everyone supplied were good. There was basics supplied (tea, coffee & sugar) and the nice touch was a pint of milk left for us in the fridge. The shop was very well stocked and the staff were very welcoming and friendly.

  • "The park and accommodation is very pleasant and our particular lodge was very well equipped for us and our young children."

However on our arrival within 5 minutes the power went off and we were without electric for a good 45 minutes, the maintenance man was extremely polite, helpful and very efficient in getting electric switched back on from outside the property (we had obviously tried the trip switch etc inside the property) The owner also came after electricity was back on and was nice enough. I went for a bath and needed to clean it first as although no scum lines it had an abundance of hair in it and on the tiles, not something you want to find. The property is brilliantly equipped for a family holiday and we enjoyed ourselves enormously at the property, maybe though the housekeeper needs to spend a little time organising the cupboards and tidying. Our only other complaint is in the description of the lodge and park it very much leads you to believe you have open access to the swimming pool and all facilities, one of the main reasons for booking the lodge was the use of the swimming pool so we were very disappointed to discover we had to pay to use the pool. All in all an excellent base for a family holiday and would return and recommend.
