Castle Cottage

I've had a wonderful holiday staying in Castle Cottage.

The cottage is ideally situated for exploring the Island by public transport and a lovely base to relax in at the end of the day. I appreciated the owners thoughtfulness in putting a fan in the bedroom especially with our current weather and their kindness in making checking into the property so easy when I arrived. Hopefully I'll be able to return again!

It was a comfortable stay and clean.

Easy access to all parts of the island. It is ideal for a relaxing holiday with outside space to sit in the garden.

We were disappointed with the accommodation, as the website description is somewhat inaccurate.

As a listed building, modifications are obviously limited, but a number of items should be made clearer. While the kitchen is well equipped, it is cramped; and the bedroom is comfortable. The narrow steep stairs are awkward to negotiate (and would not be suitable for anyone with mobility problems). In our opinion, the step between bedroom and bathroom is a serious fall/trip hazard. There was a great deal of noise from passing traffic almost constantly (so not what we would call a 'retreat'); and, given that most people would probably arrive by car, convenient parking is a problem. Wifi is available, but seemed rather slow, and the TV signal pretty unstable.

I stayed here with my daughter, its small but comfortable with a lovely garden where you can spot the castle if you go to the end.

It is on the road but honestly I didn't even notice any traffic noise. Stairs are a bit awkward but it adds to the charm. Perfect location for days out, we packed a lot in is 3 days, visiting zoos and the chine and the model village. We really enjoyed our stay and the only slight issue was parking, I resorted to using the pub carpark opposite on a couple of occasions (they didn't seem to mind) or there is a carpark a couple of minutes walk away opposite the local shop which was also pretty handy. I would definitely recommend.

This cottage is so lovely we return again & again.

Perfectly situated in Carisbrooke, access to the entire island is easy. We cannot recommend it highly enough. The pub opposite (Waverley) is both human & dog friendly with delicious meals.

This cosy little cottage is such a delight, we keep coming back.

Excellent facilities, very high standard of cleanliness, and excellent communication with the owner. A comfortable home from home in a listed building. The stairs could be a bit tricky if you’re disabled, but I manage fine & I’m a pensioner with arthritis and a walking stick. Its location in Carisbrooke makes easy access around the island due to its central location. Convenient for shops & pubs - within easy walking distance. In fact, The Waverley is just opposite, and we recommend booking on Saturday for their Sunday dinner! We’re returning in March.

The little cottage is cosy, comfortable and compact .

Good garden space with seating. Well equipped , heating excellent and simple to operate . The location is ideal for Newport with a pleasant 20min walk partly on a footpath or the bus from door takes 5mins . We also took buses to the Needles , Yarmouth etc from the door . There is a Co op less than 5mins walk away which was very convenient . We intend to use this property again in the future .

Lovely little place to stay.

Close to bus routes so we could get to any destination easily. Would definitely recommend for a relaxing break

We enjoyed our stay and the location is good for visits across the Isle of Wight.

No parking is a problem. It’s pot luck if you get parking nearby. We both used the downstairs loo during the daytime to avoid climbing the tight staircase. This loo needs a good clear out and not be used to store garden tools, etc. Other than that it’s fine.

The description if the property did not include that parking your vehicle came at a cost and a hike.

The staircase was very hard to use even for someone without issues. The kitchen was clean and had everything needed but could only be used if you walked sidewards and the washing machine door and the oven door could not be opened together as they were so close. It was handy having an outside toilet but was so full of gardening equipment it was inaccessible. The property would benefit from double glazing as the traffic noise was very loud.

A lovely little cottage which was very clean, well stocked, a comfortable bed, and its central location made it an ideal base to explore the Island which is beautiful, Bembridge and Cowes were our favourite places x Just a few niggles:- Would have liked a blind on the back door, noticeable at night without one, the TV aerial needs looking at, television kept pixelating and the hot water etc instructions sign in the kitchen could do with some TLC!

Off site parking as advertised is not guaranteed but we managed to park 6 out of 7 nights where we were advised to do so. Overall a great holiday.

We found the property to be well-appointed, and close to all amenities.

It was comfortable and had everything we needed inside, and more. Getting there and checking in/out, with the key was good, no problems there. We did find the parking a problem, as there were few places to park nearby. In the end, we used the pub car park opposite, with permission. Traffic was busy every day, with some noise from the road. We found some of the ceilings/door frames to be too low, and the stairs were not easy to navigate due to the angle of them, and a little steeper than usual. This would create problems for people with mobility issues, or tall ( we are both of average height and found it too small in some places). Otherwise, it was a good stay, and we enjoyed it a lot

This was perfect for the two of us, having cycled over from the New Forest.

It has a good pub literally opposite, a 10 minute walk to Carisbrooke Castle, a 20 minute walk along footpaths to the centre of Newport (where you can catch buses to many parts of the Island) and close to many good, traffic free, cycle routes. Cycles can be stored securely in the back garden, where there is also a lovely sunny patio with table and chairs. The stairs to the upper floor are quite steep so you need decent balance and a bit of fitness.

Our stay at Castle Cottage suited our needs, however, it was difficult to find a parking space very close by.

The cottage was very clean, bed was comfy, good WiFi & nice size garden for our dog.

A delightful, very clean, and very cosy little house.

This is our second time there and we will hopefully be staying for a third time later this year. Highly recommended.

Had an excellent week at Castle Cottage.

The cottage is small but cosy and an ideal base to explore the island. Would highly recommend.

Castle Cottage is a delightful, comfortable, and exceptionally clean little home from home.

Its central location in Carisbrooke makes all other areas easily accessible. Communication with the owner was friendly and charming. As we will make twice-yearly research trips and loved our stay at the cottage so much, we have booked again for February. That should tell you everything. Highest recommendation.

The cottage was 10 out of 10.

Only thing i would say, that we would have been happier if there was a warning about the stairs. we both have problems with back and leg pains. The narrowness of the stairs caused us a problem, especially the top of the stairs between the bedroom and the bathroom. Parking is a problem, there is a car park by the Co-op shop. cost me about £40 to park for a few hours the day, and £2 over night from 18.00 -08.00 for the week.

A bijou little cottage which suited our needs whilst on holiday.

The cottage was spotlessly clean and had a comfortable bed. The kitchen was well equipped but could have done with a casserole and oven dish to cook the likes of shepherds pie etc. we got used to the low ceiling after a couple of collisions! The traffic was noisy during the day but quiet at night and didn’t disturb our sleep. We liked the local restaurant Valentino’s.

This is a lovely old property for a couple holiday.

It was perfect for our stay seeing our family a short drive away. It has all you need in the kitchen, WiFi was good, a very good mattress and the property was spotless. The property has character, low ceiling near the stairs and back door which require navigation for taller people and original sash windows on the front. You are on a main road so you will hear the traffic especially commuting times am and pm, but it didn't bother us . There are two pubs, one across the road, a restaurant and co-op just down the hill with all you need. The garden is on two levels with a big astro turf lawn so no muddy paws to deal with! Our dog is large breed and there was plenty of floor space in the small sitting room for his bed. Despite being dog friendly there was no evidence of this, no odours, a very good standard throughout! We would certainly use this property again.

egg cups & caffitiere would be good, although Nespresso machine in place.

The lounge was comfy, but maybe the seats could do with re-upholster or cover to match the decor. Also the hot water to the kitchen didn't appear to materialise and would people younger than us know what an'immersion heater' is!?! We didn't mind, but some people might. It was very good value for money.

This is a lovely little cottage, very convenient for local amenities - pub right opposite & another a little further down the road ( this was great for food !

) , a Co-Op , and a couple of restaurants- not to mention the castle. Newport easily reached, only about 2 miles away. The cottage, is right on the high street, so can be a bit noisy with traffic during the day - but we got used to that ( we would rather be close to local businesses than in the middle of a field ) It was just the right size for the two of us to use as a base , kitchen had all the facilities we needed. Always great to have bath as well as shower. Good size double bedroom, and although mattress perhaps a little hard- I found it suited me. Clean throughout, and not the sort of musty smell you’d get from some properties . Lovely little garden & patio area to the rear. The few details I would change, however- I would have preferred a comfortable sofa , rather than the two bolt upright armchairs in the living room. Thicker curtains may have cut down the traffic noise particularly in the bedroom. The house was warm enough, and hot running water, bit slow - but plenty . Had trouble with TV , but having contacted the landlord ( Nick ) soon replied, spoke pleasantly regarding the issue ( which was down to us being impatient with the remote !) We would love to stay again, regardless

Castle Cottage advertised WiFi which was incorrect, there was no WiFi which was very inconvenient.

The bed was cripplingly hard and in desperate need of a soft topper, or a new mattress. Lounge, kitchen and bathroom were all good, and the back yard a bonus. Rick and Jenny

Noisy location, well presented but not having wi-fi was a problem.

The listing said it had wi-fi which was not true. If we had known ths we would not have booked.
