"We had a brilliant 4 night stay at 2 Hope Cottages over the October half-term."
The cottage is lovely and homely with comfortable seating in the living room; a well-equipped kitchen; a spacious shower; and two bedrooms that had all the storage we needed. The garden and summer room is a real bonus. The location is excellent with a playground directly opposite the cottage; the village pub a couple of doors down; and the village shop 100 yards away. The beautiful Duver Beach is walking distance. Ryde and Bembridge are short drives. Esther was a great host providing all the information we needed to make our arrival, stay and departure enjoyable.

"A lovely stay for our family."
A good location with easy parking - the perfect base to explore the island. Great bathroom and kitchen area, and the whole property feels airy and cool, even on the hotter days. Proximity to the pub was never bothersome - indeed the food there was excellent. Lots of downstairs space to relax and the garden is a bonus too. Bedrooms are fine for a family of four, and we slept very well. We will hopefully be back again next year.

"This was a very quaint and comfortable little cottage in a great location, very handy for the local shop and bus routes and close to many attractions."
Although not the most modern in terms of amenities, it has a everything we needed. My daughter especially appreciated the toys, games and DVDs on offer.
-
"2 Hope Cottages was a comfortable stay in a pretty village, walking distance to the beach, views over the green to the cliffs and downs and with a bus stop on the doorstep it was easy to have a relaxing and enjoyable holiday at St Helens."
2 Hope had everything I needed provided plus a sunny outdoor space and a nice pub next door. It's a lovely place for a quiet break.

"A lovely little cottage, in a great position for access to ferries."
My Mum and I really enjoyed 3 nights here, thou at 87 I think she was on the upper age limit for negotiating the little stairs at night. The bathroom and well equipped kitchen were beautifully modernised. The garden was great thou we didn't have time to use it as we were so busy. One small suggested alteration would be to have a thicker blind in the front bedroom to keep the early morning light out.

"We enjoyed our stay at 2 Hope Cottages."
The location is very good, overlooking the village green and in walking distance of The Duver. We hope to visit again soon.
-
"The cottage is equipped with everything you need and more."
The shower and bathroom are superb but cold sometimes. Cooking is easy and the central heating very effective. The furniture is OK but a proper vacuum cleaner would be an improvement. The outside door is old and damaged and diminishes the first impression - I did not realise that the key safe was on another door inside? The location is superb ( so close to the pub and a bus stop) and St Helens is a good place to stay. I hope to return out of season when the price will be a similar bargain.

"Hope cottage offers the perfect base with all needs met, we have thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and our stay in Hope cottage."
Lovely quirky place situated on a great bus route and two doors down from the pub. Highly recommend a visit to the Isle of Wight and a stay in this cottage. Just one little criticism...please leave a drying mop in the bathroom has it seemed to take ages to dry even with the fan on and window open.

"We have had a lovely holiday again at 2 Hope Cottages."
The owner was responsive when we had problems and was quick to help.

"No. I have already sent an email direct to them"

"Our second stay in this lovely cosy cottage."
Well equipped kitchen. Great location with lots of walks from the cottage. Excellent pub further along the road and a good corner shop just a few minutes walk. We will certainly come back next year.

"The cottage is lovely."
However first impressions on arrival is not good when the front gate is off its hinges and the external front door is in a very bad state. It does not lock and if it rained or was windy the weather would come through. I do not think it is good security. The internal front door is literally just an internal door that has a lock. The toilet seat was loose. Outside the back door could do with a jet wash. The back bedroom curtains were awful and need replacing asap. On a positive note ideal location for parking, local pub, the beach, a shop and not far from tesco superstore. Beautiful summer house. Fully equipped kitchen with all amenities. Lovely shower. Beds were clean and comfy. Complimentary bottle of wine on arrival was lovely. We had a lovely stay but just needs a bit of maintenance.
Thanks for your comments. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

"Had a lovely time."
property was a quaint terraced cottage with bags of character, yet clean and tidy.

Great location in a friendly village.

Pub next door very good
-
"Fantastic stay, very comfortable and clean."
The itinerary says there's a bath but there isn't, but fantastic shower
-
"Cosy, cottage, fully furnished with everything you need."
Loved the use of the summer house. Owners instructions were easy to follow. Lovely situation with free parking, pub and superb cafe/restaurant on the green. Good walks to Bembridge Harbour and Duver beach. Had a fantastic time.
-
"Lovely little place on the green and near the pub as well."
Everything needed for a base to explore the Isle of Wight.
-
"More description needed for stairs for aged or mobility issues."
New bathroom has ventilation issues, towels remain damp for over 3 days.kitchen tap dripping permanently.
-
"Nice little property, full of character."
Very good shower room. Kitchen area clean and all you need. Second bedroom a twin room and good for younger children; bit of a squeeze for teenagers. Summer house seems large enough for storing a couple of bikes. Two doors from pub and a kids play park across the road, but noise not a problem. Parking in free car park nearby or in street for short periods. Close to bus stop. St Helens is generally quiet. Corner shop/off license is about 3 mins by foot. Nice walks and bike rides from the house. Suited our purposes.

"Lovely cottage."
Situated in good area for amenities, only downside is music from pub garden on Friday Saturday evening and as pub is only 2 doors away general noise most evenings. But not a problem if you would like to join in but if you have children would disturb them sleeping as music to 1130pm Love the garden room at back of garden. Would visit again.
It's lovely to hear you enjoyed your stay. The pub usually has music only on a Friday until 11. It's at the heart of the village community and has good food and a friendly welcome. We look forward to seeing you back in St Helens! Thank you. Property Owner

Excellent pub and village shop close by. Lots of lovely walks. We will definitely come back.
We look forward to seeing you back in St Helens! Thank you Property Owner
-
"A lovely comfortable cottage, providing everything we needed,in a beautiful position overlooking an open green area ,with a lovely village atmosphere."
The Duver and beach are just a short walk away, with other beautiful walks in close proximity. We would not hesitate to rebook in the future
Thank you! I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed St Helens. And you were the first guests to enjoy our newly refurbished kitchen and bathroom, too! We look forward to welcoming you back. Property Owner

"Lovey little cottage and very comfortable, beds expecially but if i was to be a party pooper I'd say the whole place is a little rough around the edges."
-
"The settee in the lounge is a sofa bed and is not very comfortable for sitting on."
It is too low which makes it difficult to get up from. The bathroom could do with a makeover but the shower was a good one. Also in the lounge the coffee table lovely as it is, is too big for the room and too heavy to move. We did have a good holiday and the cottage was as detailed.
-
"We have stayed in this cottage a couple of times and it suits our needs well."
The kitchen has everything we need and the beds are comfortable.
-
"Nice little cottage, good location and nice pub next door"
-
"A cosy quaint cottage superbly located in a lovely village."
Great walks and a pub and restaurants close by.
-
"You need to make it clear that the stairs are very narrow and could cause access issues for an elderly person or someone with a disability."
My wife is both, but we managed The cottage was very clean with a good level of facilities but. could do with the decoration sprucing up
-
"Had a fantastic stay, everything we needed, close to the beautiful beach, & a comfortable & good night sleep had by us all."
Would definitely return to hope cottage.
-
"The neighbours are noisy."
The front door needs replacing as the wind came right through it! Other than that we had a good time
-
"The cottage was all we could wish for, the weather exceeded expectations."
Felt very safe when we ate out and every one very helpful and friendly. You can expect to see us again! Kate and Lorraine
-
"Cottage true to photographs."
Double bed and twin room upstairs. Open plan lounge/dining/kitchen and downstairs bathroom. Heating and internet both worked well. Clean. Lovely summer house in the back garden, unfortunately just needed the sun! Easy check-in with a lock box. Two doors from a pub, two other restaurants in the village. Free parking across the road (have to move the car every 24 hours).

"2 Hope Cottages was just what I was wanting."
I immediately felt at home when I walked through the front door. Even though it was November, when the mornings were sunny we would have our morning tea and coffee in the shed at the end of the garden. Conveniently located to both buses for exploring and the pub for meals and an evening drink. I loved the village of St Helen's, everyone was so friendly and helpful. We didn't want to leave and hopefully will visit St. Helens and the Isle of Wight again.
-
"Comfortable cosy well equipped cottage."
Very good location for bus service pub and a couple of good restaurants and good walks.
-
"The cottage was lovely - small but reasonably well equipped (although no tea towel in the kitchen and no toilet roll)."
The main issue was the double bed - extremely uncomfortable - my husband and I both had back ache for most of the week because of it. The sofa was more comfortable to sleep on. Also the heating seemed to come on randomly and make the cottage very hot which contributed to the poor sleep. Such a shame but won’t be staying there again.
-
"The cottage was as described and was comfortable."
It was a great base for our holiday
-
"There are many positives about the property."
It has a lovely garden with excellent seating , etc for outdoors dining. The situation is superb, bus stop outside, pub next door, and lovely views across green to downs beyond. The property, however, is in need of refurbishment, The front door and entrance is in poor condition,as is the back door and and garden entrance which needs a good clean up. There is rotting woodwork in the bathroom which needs attention. The kitchen is cramped but well equipped. Linen in bedrooms is excellent, There is an abundance of hot water. Overall this is a pleasant property but it needs freshening up.
-
"This cottage is unsuitable for septuagenarians."
The difficulty with the stairs needs additional clarification. Getting cases upstairs proved somewhat difficult. There is no storage facility for clothes in the second bedroom. There are no instructions as to the location of the central heating thermostat. It does not fire at 15c setting. The bathroom air mover is deafening. We found it somewhat disappointing given the write up.
-
"The cottage is well located although the nearest beach is really a short car journey rather than a walk for a mature couple!"
The accommodation is rather dated and tired but comfortable enough. The garden is excellent with a lovely summer house. The pub next door is quiet and provides excellent food.
-
"Fantastic cottage, everything you needed."
Ideal base for exploring the IOW. Lovely garden with a summer house. The cottage was cosy and clean,it also had the added bonus of WiFi which my teenagers loved . Would definitely recommend this cottage and Sykes cottages.
-
"Ideal cottage in perfect location."
Very quiet and relaxing. Cottage has all the facilities you need even a washing machine. Note stairs are steep to bedrooms and bathroom is down stairs. Brilliant garden in sunny spot . Next door to pub - bit tired in decor but very good food. Highly recommend it and hopefully stay again soon
-
"St Helens is a great village."
The cottage was very well equipped right down to things you wouldn't expect like baking equipment, tea towel and cleaning liquids for washing machine and dishwasher. Even a bottle of wine to welcome us!
-

About the location
ST HELENS
Bembridge 2 miles; Ryde 5 miles.
The village of St Helens lies in a coastal position on high ground, on the eastern side of the Isle of Wight, between Bembridge and Seaview. St Helens is a traditional English village, with the village green at the centre of village life, providing cricket and football pitches, a children’s playground and superb views right across Bembridge Harbour and Culver Down. The village also offers superb restaurants, pub, newsagent, Post Office and grocery store. A short walk takes you to The Duver, an NT area of shingle and sand, and once the site of a Royal links golf course. The beach here is very family friendly, with sand and shingle, perfect for making sandcastles and collecting seashells as well as crabbing off the Bembridge Harbour Causeway. There is the popular Baywatch Café, with all the amenities you need for the perfect day at the beach, and stunning views of the Solent and St Helens Fort. The fort was built to protect Portsmouth from a French invasion between 1867 and 1880, and at the lowest tide of the summer, there is a mass walk of up to 2000 people from the beach out to the fort and back again, with driftwood fires and barbecues.
