  • "Just returned from a week long holiday at The Piggery, what a lovely place!"

Great, peaceful location. The accommodation is very spacious and well equipped and Jenni kept us well stocked with fresh strawberries. We would not hesitate to recommend this property to friends and family.

Thank you so much for your review! Look forward to seeing you both again before too long. Best wishes Jennifer Property Owner

The owner was friendly but not intrusive. Thoughtful generous welcome hamper. Great location

  • "The property was in a lovely location and was very peaceful, was also very secure."

Liked the fact that you could use the tennis courts if you wanted to. Found the owner very friendly and thought the welcome pack was a nice idea, plenty of goodies. Ideal location to explore quite a few places, Sissinghurst, Chartwell and Knole House to name a few places. If visiting the area again would definitely stay there again.

Thank you so much for your lovely review. It was lovely to meet you both and I look forward to welcoming you back to The Piggery in the not too distant future. Best wishes Jennifer Property Owner

  • "The Piggery was perfect for a short family break after the hectic Christmas period."

Wi-Fi was available but we enjoyed the opportunity to take time out from the internet - playing games and reading books in front of the fire. The kitchen facilities were complete and allowed us to cook meals instead of eating out. The local pub looked lovely to walk to but was closed on the night we would have done so while we didn’t use the tennis courts due to it being December - reasons to return in a warmer month! Many thanks to the great hosts J & S

Thank you so much. It was a pleasure to have you to stay and we look forward to welcoming you back anytime. Happy New Year. Best regards Jennifer Property Owner

The property

Kings Hill 2.9 miles, Tonbridge 7.3 miles.

The Piggery is a beautifully finished cottage in the grounds of one of Kent’s most historic private homes, a Grade I listed ancient monument built in 1396 for the knights returning from the crusades.

As its name suggests, the Piggery was converted from 19th-century farm buildings and is surrounded by formal gardens designed by Chelsea Flower Show Gold medal winner, Roger Platt.

The location on the edge of the charming hamlet of West Peckham (where the last TV Darling Buds of May ‘The Larkins’ TV series was filmed), set in the heart of the Weald of Kent, provides a tranquil and beautiful setting.

Although quiet West Peckham has a thriving community-owned pub, the Swan on the Green, which is a short walk from the Piggery and the village is perfectly placed for exploring the wonderful countryside and local towns – or even taking the train from Tonbridge straight into central London.

Nearby attractions include the wineries of Mereworth and Yotes Court, whose vines are just across the road from the property.

The Greensand Way passes directly behind Dukes Place, with ramblers using the ancient route as it heads up onto the North Downs, or south into the Weald.

In the vicinity are Knole House, Penshurst Place, Ightham Mote, Leeds Castle, Hever Castle and the amazing gardens at Sissinghurst, the work of Vita Sackville-West.

The Piggery has access to the Dukes Place tennis court, which is just metres away, and can be used in daylight hours, and there are numerous local golf courses and miles of country lanes to tempt cyclists.

With ample car parking accessed through electric gates, the property is surrounded by its large and secure hedges with further secure storage of bikes if needed.

The path to the front door is accessed down a short path lined with espalier apple trees and lavender, with a front hall giving access to the two bedrooms, one with a double sleigh-bed and the other with two bunk-beds.

The kitchen and living area have all the necessary amenities, including excellent WiFi, which allows both content streaming and conferencing if required, along with a woodburning stove and a small terrace.

The Piggery provides comfortable contemporary convenience in a truly historic location for you to relax, explore or make it your base for discovering Kent and Sussex or maybe taking a trip into London.

Knight's Base

Set within the grounds of one of Kent’s most historic private estates, Knight's Base form an exceptional pair of properties ideal for families and friends seeking a truly atmospheric countryside escape. Resting in West Peckham, at the heart of the Weald of Kent, these remarkable retreats are surrounded by rolling landscapes, ancient routes, and layers of English history that unfold at every turn. Dating back to the 14th-Century, the estate was originally built for knights returning from the Crusades, and today retains its powerful sense of place through preserved architecture, formal gardens, and commanding views towards the Kent Downs. Dukes Place, a vast former manor cottage set behind electric gates, offers a grand setting for larger groups, with a series of impressive living spaces including the vaulted Grand Hall, a formal dining room with an inglenook fireplace, multiple lounges warmed by woodburning stoves, and five double bedrooms arranged across the upper floor. Outside, its wraparound gardens, swimming pool, and tennis court create a setting that feels lifted from a period drama, ideal for celebrations, reunions, and extended stays. Just moments away, The Piggery provides a beautifully finished companion cottage, converted from 19th?Century farm buildings and surrounded by formal gardens designed by Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medal winner Roger Platt. Smaller in scale yet rich in character, it offers contemporary convenience within historic walls, along with access to the Dukes Place tennis court during daylight hours. The surrounding area is rich with days out and discovery. The Greensand Way passes directly behind the estate, leading walkers across the North Downs and into the Weald, while nearby vineyards at Mereworth and Yotes Court stretch just beyond the hedgerows. Historic houses and gardens including Knole House, Penshurst Place, Ightham Mote, Leeds Castle, Hever Castle, and Sissinghurst are all within easy reach, alongside country lanes that appeal to cyclists and golfers alike. With Tonbridge station offering direct routes into central London, this unique pairing delivers seclusion, heritage, and connection in equal measure. Discover Kent from an unforgettable base at Knight's Base.
