  • "Lovely, well appointed cottage which was ideal for our holiday."

Several points we would like to mention: :-Large patch of mould on bedroom wall - the spoors may affect peoples breathing. :- Bedrooms far too hot at night and unable to adjust heating setting. :- Settee is very uncomfortable and not up to the standard of the rest of the cottage. :- Both large clocks have stopped and presumably need batteries.

After a terrible journey due to road closures, the cottage (& Prosecco kindly left by the owner) really lifted our spirits. The cottage is beautiful, so comfortable, clean and well equipped with the added bonus of being in a wonderful setting. I would recommend a stay at Camerton Hall Cottage to anyone who wants to relax in comfort in a tranquil setting. Truly outstanding ⭐️⭐️. Thank you!

Great kitchen, great towels! Only three snags. 1 the sofa was in a poor condition and uncomfortable. 2 there were a lot of cobwebs. 3. The outside space needed a tidy up and weeding. Otherwise we had a very relaxing stay. Thank you.

Spacious, warm cottage with very comfortable beds and everything you need including a welcome pack. Very easy to get to the lakes from here- Buttermere, crummock water, ennerdale, derwent water, etc. Unlike Windermere and Ambleside there is no traffic so it’s easy to drive anywhere.

  • "A beautifully well presented cottage in a peaceful, tranquil location."

For those who enjoy cooking, and we do, it was so nice to have such a well equipped kitchen. Despite the chilly and damp weather, the under floor heating kept the cottage warm and cosy. We lit the log burner just the once and that was during a planned power cut. Which we were notified of well in advance. A very comfy bed too. Recommended places to visit: The Pencil Museum in Keswick, Senhouse Roman Museum in Maryport with a walk along the cliffs, Silloth with its lovely promenade and walk out to Grune Point. Overall, a delightful and relaxing break.

Thank you for a lovely review. We really appreciated your patience and we’d love to welcome you back. X Property Owner

  • "The heating was not working in the living room and bedrooms."

They were really cold. The bath plug was stuck and when we finally got it free the drainage hole was full of sludge. When the shower was used it didn't drain away so I was standing ankle deep in in dirty water with black bits floating in it. One bench does not classify as garden furniture. We were so disappointed we decided to come home on two days early. On sweeping the floor before we left I found two dog toys and a slipper under the sofa and the furniture was very uncomfortable to sit on. We would definitely not be staying there again.

Thank you so much for bringing these problems to our attention. . It’s a shame you didn’t contact housekeeping to resolve these issues.im sorry it impacted your visit. As you can see from the other reviews, this isn’t a common occurrence. Property Owner

  • "Stylish decor, comfy beds, the underfloor heating was a nice feature but not having a thermostat in the lounge area meant the temperature wasn’t controllable so the room was either too hot or too cold."

Several cleaning issues and a few maintenance issues encountered were reported to the housekeeping company. There was an overpowering smell of bleach in the lounge area on arrival - not at all pleasant! We found that the stove in the lounge had not been cleaned out prior to our arrival. There doesn’t appear to be a carbon monoxide detector in the lounge area so we didn’t use the stove. The rocks lining the edge of the parking area were difficult to see and can cause damage to car wheels and bodywork, so care must be taken when parking - the rocks really need to be made more visible.

Thank you for the helpful feedback. It’s a shame you didn’t get to use the log burner. I can assure you that there is a carbon monoxide detector along with all other health and safety requirements. We look forward to welcoming you back. Property Owner

  • "We really enjoyed our stay in your cottage."

It is beautiful and the beds were so comfy. Unfortunately there were multiple cobwebs all over the property, flies in the kitchen and dust on some surfaces. Cleaning supplies were extremely low or empty i.e hand wash was nearly empty and disinfectant too. I would suggest a larger sofa that would seat 4 people to make it just that little comfier. On the other hand, you did really have everything to help us and it felt like a home away from home. The welcome pack informing us of some great places and the book recommendations for restaurants was a must. We also enjoyed reading through the guest book for suggestions which were great!

Thankyou so much for the positive feedback. There seems to have been some oversights by our management company. I have passed in your observations to the head of team and she will be reiterating the matter. Reminding staff to refill soap etc with every clean. We employ a high level maintenance team to take care of the cottage and as you probably have notice, we normally score very high for cleanliness. We apologise for the flies buzzing about but at this time of year there are many. Especially in the country side. So pleased all of this didn’t spoil your trip and we very much look forward to welcoming you back. Property Owner

  • "I would indeed like to give some feed back and speak to someone when this is read."

As we lost our last day and following morning as we had no hot water or heating we had to wait for someone to arrive and the cleaning team came to fix the boiler. They were very helpful but I'm pretty sure there not qualified to do boiler repairs which didnt fix the issue. It was absolutely freezing in the cottage I sent email's and made calls and got no response. We left at 5 in the morning as it was cold and the smell of burining from the boiler was to much to take and we had no idea if we were safe. I would like a response urgently please.

Dear Joanne, Thankyou so much for your feedback. I’m so sorry to hear your last evening of your holiday was spoiled by this incident. I do believe Sykes have already promptly dealt with your complaint before this was published. Indeed, the maintenance team are not qualified heating engineers and I understand the earliest this could be arranged was first thing, the following morning. Thankfully they arrived on time and the problem was quickly resolved. I’m guessing, you must have run low on logs as I know the burner can heat the whole cottage toasty warm. We’re extremely sorry this happened during your visit and can assure you, it isn’t a common occurrence. Kindest regards Melanie Property Owner

One observation would be that after a day out with 3 hungry adults and a teenager there wasn't a large saucepan or casserole in which we could cook enough pasta or potatoes in one go to feed everyone so we used all the small pans but otherwise the kitchen was well equipped. We and our little dog loved our stay and would recommend the cottage as a perfect base for the Lakes and the Cumbrian coast.

About the location

COCKERMOUTH

Bassenthwaite Lake 7 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
