  • "Great location to the North Lakes."

A home from home for the week.

  • "Absolutely marvellous!"

! This was our second year at Beckside, initially for six then reduced to four adults and a two year old. Spacious, clean and with every convenience you could wish for it made for another wonderful stay in the Lake District. Plenty of grounds to explore within it and a good launch pad for the Lakes themselves. We would thoroughly recommend Beckside for a party of adults or a family with children.

What a lovely place, our Malamute loved the place. Clean, great standard and very comfortable!

  • "We had a very comfortable 4 nights in Beckside, with everything we needed provided."

It was a shame the weather was so poor, because its setting is gorgeous. We did enjoy one evening stroll in the grounds, with some stunning views and plentiful wildflowers and wildlife. We particularly appreciated the eco focus and guidelines given to be as eco conscious as possible while staying there. We realised as we stripped the beds at the end that the duvets are stuffed with wool - they were really comfortable! Communication with the owner was quick and easy, both before and during our stay. When we reported a problem with a leaking shower, the plumber came and sorted it the next day. So all in all, a success and we'd happily come back, maybe looking at booking some of the other properties on the site at the same time to come with wider family.

  • "Truly belter!"

!! A wonderful place in a marvellous setting. Everything was as advertised and more. Six adults and a one year old thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Lake District and all was enhanced by this beautiful accommodation. No hesitation in giving it top grades and will recommend it without reservation. Thank you for making our visit to the Lakes a one to treasure.

  • "The whole family enjoyed their stay in Southwaite Green."

Everything was as described on the website. Our first experience of underfloor heating which we really liked! Having grounds of 10 acres to explore was also an advantage, especially as we had a dog with us. The location is ideally placed in the Northern Lakes, plenty of walks, towns and lakes within easy reach, even the supermarket is only 15 minutes away. And yet the situation feels like you're miles away from anywhere. A great pub is a 7 minute drive away if you don't want to do much cooking, but obviously a more expensive option! Marna, the lady on site was always around to answer queries(how to use the EV charging system). Yes, there is a charging point for electric vehicles at each of the 3 cottages! Not the fastest charging system to be fair, but good enough to keep you going. A very enjoyable stay all round. Iain Gaydon

  • "A quiet and spacious cottage in a great location for the Western Lakes It was clean and well equipped and perfect for our two dogs with large well maintained grounds."

The underfloor heating also worked a treat The owner had put up a real Christmas tree and decorated it for us, which was a really nice touch. When the battery on the smoke alarm ran low resulted in intermittent bleeping, the owner arranged for someone to come out and fix it really quickly, despite it being Christmas. Keswick is a 15 to 20 mins drive away over the Whinlatter pass (or A66) and Cockermouth is 2 miles down the road with a Sainsbury. You can also find good food and a friendly welcome at the Wheatsheaf Inn in Lorton, which is 2.7 miles away. I cannot recommend this place enough and would most definitely come back, perhaps when the weather is better, as it rained constantly all week.

Southwaite’s grounds are great for wildlife, we saw deer, buzzard, sparrow hawk, loads of different songbirds, and pond life , the grounds are full of plants with berries, which encourages the wild life and birds, and if you need the shops,Cockermouth is only a short drive away.

The house was really well laid out and the grounds were beautiful. Our 2 little dogs had a great time too! We have already booked to come back next year! The organic vegetables were a superb touch, as was the plum loaf of bread! The garden, pond and swing were a real plus for the children - and dog too. The eco regard to all aspects of the cottage were excellent. A very special place!!

About the location

COCKERMOUTH

Bassenthwaite Lake 7 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
