So comfortable, away from the Keswick crowds. The apartment is spacious and clean with everything you could need supplied. Views amazing. Lots of walks from the door or a short car ride away. Local buses pass by the main road though you cannot hear any traffic; the road is out of sight down the hill. We've already booked to stay again in 2025.

The property is very large, comfortable and with all the amenities needed for a vacation in The Lakes. It is well positioned with Keswick only a short drive away and there is good access to the coast and fell walks.

"We loved our stay at South View, and particularly loved the glorious view."
The rooms were spacious and elegant, and had lovely big windows - 12 ft high on the upper floor, I am guessing - so it was full of light. We enjoyed walking in the beautiful grounds. The kitchen was particularly well-equipped. Our bed was very comfortable - excellent mattress. A couple of minor "picky" points: We would have liked to have been able to drive the car round the house nearer to the back door for unloading and loading the car, instead of having to make a a lot of trips round the house. Parking in slot 2 afterwards would have been fine. Similarly, it would have been nice to have the dustbin with the others just outside the back door, and not to have to carry it all the way round the house. And a soap dish or little shelf for soap/shampoo would have been the icing on the cake in the very nice shower.

We do understand your views about loading and unloading the car, but sadly we, and the other Oakfield owners, do not want to risk any damage to the Victorian drains which are below the gravel terrace. Quite the best we’ve stayed in in the Lake District. Exceptionally well appointed. Just to mention the large frying pan didn’t seem to work on the induction hob.

We had such a fantastic week stay there and the gardens are so beautiful. The house is very well equipped, in fact it is one of the best ones. And we have stayed in quite a few Sykes cottages. Would highly recommend this place 10/10. Will definitely be coming back.

"In almost all respects this is a perfect property."
The accommodation is faultless and by and large everything we needed was provided. Just two minor points: the waste bin was not lined with a bag and there was very little washing up liquid. We bought our own bin liners. I know this is not the fault of the owners but we were disappointed that there was no opportunity to segregate our refuse as we did at home.

"This is a beautifully maintained, spacious and exceptionally well located apartment."
The views are outstanding and the rooms spacious and comfortably furnished to a high standard. The gardens are lovely (and peaceful outside of school holidays!). The kitchen is very well appointed and with every gadget a keen amateur cook could wish for. It is also well stocked with toys, games and books and tourist info. Highly recommended!

"A truly wonderful property in a beautiful location, quiet and peaceful, yet just minutes from Keswick and convenient for getting around the Lake District."
The apartment is extremely spacious, elegant, and tastefully furnished with the most wonderful views from its large living room, terrace and grounds. It offers period charm with all mod cons, especially in the kitchen which is comprehensively stocked. Everything was immaculately clean, providing a comfortable and welcoming base for a Lakeland holiday. We loved everything about it.

"Fabulous property."
Very well appointed kitchen. Comfy beds, beautiful bathrooms, warm throughout the property, fantastic large lounge with space to relax and enjoy the wonderful views. Plenty of books, games, puzzles and DVDs and a chess set. Nothing was wanting. Would highly recommend this property and hope to return again one day.

"This was a return visit and we really like this apartment."
However, as with last year, we felt that the cleaning left something to be desired. It seems as though the cleaner cleans the bits he/ she can see but does not go the extra mile. This year the sofa in the sitting room was covered in toast crumbs ( you wouldn’t notice unless inspected properly as it is patterned). We also had to hoover the rug ourselves before being able to start a jigsaw, as the rug was dirty! Neither bedroom had been dusted properly, only a cursory dust along edges etc. In the bathrooms it seemed as though they had been mopped without first being swept, as behind the doors there were patches of wet scum/dust. It is such a shame because it’s such a cosy place to stay with amazing views. These comments would not stop us returning again but it takes the edge off a lovely stay.

We do endeavor to make South View as comfortable as possible for our visitors and are naturally very disappointed by your findings. I have spoken to our housekeeper and she will address these matters with our cleaner. On her advice, we have arranged to replace the vacuum cleaner with one which is more flexible and easier to handle. We will also reinstate our periodic inspection visits which we regret have been curtailed this year, due to our personal circumstances, and the pandemic. If you should return to South View and do not find everything as you (and we) expect, do please contact our housekeeper as soon as possible so that any issues can be promptly address so as not to detract from your stay. KESWICK
Bassenthwaite 7 miles, Ullswater 16.6 miles; Cockermouth 13 miles.
The popular town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the North of the Lake District and has plenty to offer the visitor at any time of year. The town boasts numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering miniature golf, excellent parks, the famous Theatre by the Lake, a charming cinema, the Pencil Museum, a climbing wall, fishing and great mountain biking opportunities, whilst the beautiful lake of Derwentwater at the head of the stunning Borrowdale Valley is only a few minutes walk from the town centre. Nearby, between Braithwaite and Buttermere is the beautiful Newlands Valley, while picturesque Bassenthwaite Lake is well worth a visit. From a gentle countryside ramble to a challenging hike up Skiddaw or the famous Catbells, there really is something for everyone.
