"We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived the property was easy to find and well equipped, the enclosed small courtyard was a blessing for our Patterdale but the wire mesh on the gates needs to be raised to make it completely secure bearing in mind it borders a road, the tub style seats are not comfortable at all and despite being mentioned in the visitor book as far back as 2022 it has not been acted on, I took a wine glass out of the cupboard that clearly had not been cleaned in sometime, the toilet/ shower room is a tight fit but adequate for a short stay, there is no view other than that of a stone wall which is a shame in such a pretty place, the walk through the woods to the dog enclosure is pleasant, and I can imagine on a hot summer's day ideal."
We have stayed in many self catering cottages over the years but this is the very first place we did not meet the owners or one of their staff ( we stayed 4 nights ) it seemed a bit automated, pick the key up from the key safe and return it there on leaving the property, the property is a short drive from most places of interest and its nice and peaceful once settling down on a evening. Overall we were happy but would not stay again mainly due to our ages and the complete lack of any type of view.

"I found this a great location for the southern Lakes."
It had everything I needed. It is in a beautiful quiet location, with lots of nature surrounding it, perfect for walking. I would definitely recommend a stay here. I will be back too. Thank you Mark and Louise.
-
"Beautiful little cottage, perfect place for visiting other areas."
So peaceful. Enjoyed walking round the woodland, so did the dog. Room for parking. Would highly recommend a visit, will definitely be booking again.
-
"Beautiful setting surrounded by nature."
Loved the neighbouring farm animals and birds song. The views are amazing as you drive down Lanes End and the cottage is situated ideally for Windermere. Mark is very friendly and helpful and the cottage is spotless and peaceful with everything you need. We would definitely return.

"We had a great long weekend stay here."
The owner was very helpful and friendly. The cottage is in a very quiet spot but still close enough to everything you need. We would agree with other reviews that the chairs in the lounge area are very uncomfortable and the cottage was very small - some of the photos were taken from a very generous angle. This means that we probably wouldn't book a longer stay in this particular cottage but we would definitely try one of the others on the same site. It was very dog friendly with an enclosed yard and a dog exercise area nearby. We also definitely recommend the Anglers Arms in Haverthwaite which was also very dog friendly and served excellent food. If like us you just need a small place to stay for a weekend this is perfect.
Dear Kathryn, thanks very much for your feedback & I'm so glad you had a great weekend back in October. I noted your comments at the time regarding the lounge area chairs being very uncomfortable which I fully appreciated. The Suite is the smallest of our 4 properties at Abbots Reading Holiday Cottages & finding the optimal furniture for the space available has been tricky hence the 2 tub chairs. To address this I have sought the help of a local specialist upholsterer & have today replaced both the foam cushions with a mixed grade, medium with a soft dome. I think this offers much more support & comfort. Thanks again for pointing this out & hopefully see you again soon. Best regards Mark Property Owner

"Very well thought out little suite."
Very clean and good use of the limited space. As the description says this is a small cottage, just a kitchen/diner, bedroom and shower room, but it all works, nothing is missing, well decorated with modern, well maintained appliances. Great for the dog. Good location for visiting this corner of the Lakes. My only small suggestion…it would nice to have a soft lighting option in the kitchen/diner, a small lamp perhaps.

"The cottage was just right for a lovely relaxing stay."
The only fault we had was we would of preferred a 2 sester couch instead of the chairs. The dog enjoyed the little woodland walk and garden. We would certainly stay again
-
"Lovely cosy cottage, had everything we needed, really enjoyed our stay here."
Was great it was out in the countryside but still only a short car journey away from the shops.
-
"Great compact holiday home/base for 2 a 1 dog to explore South lakes"
-
"We loved our stay at Abbotts Reading suite, it was very well equipped for all your needs for your stay away, lovely and clean and was ideal for dogs, the outside space was very secure and we will definitely visit again."
The area was very quiet and very relaxing but wasn’t far from shops and dining out.
-
"Excellent stay lovely cottage and a really good base for exploring"
-
"The location of this cottage is fantastic, check in and out instructions were spot on and very clear."
We found that it wasnt the comfiest place to relax in the evening as there are only 2 small arm chairs but was absolutly brilliant for a shorter weekend stay
-
"Very well appointed small cottage with grounds and facilities perfect for holidaying with a dog."
-
"We had amazing time, overall fab property."
The owner was lovely and polite, also quickly fixed the broken light for us. Only down side was the bed for me, but maybe I'm fussy aha.

"Great cosy stay in the suite, not far from great walks and drives to other towns, suite has its own enclosed area so great for Skye to have a roam around, if you do have a four legged friend with you excellent mini wood walk on site for toileting and even better if your dog is anything like ours a mud monster they have a doggy shower outside with hot water :) very clean and modern suite with just what you need for a short stay, mark was great with communication prior to arriving and great info emailed with local places to go and eat definatley stay here again thanks for a wonderful stay."
-
"Lovely modern, albeit Bijou accommodation ideal for couples looking for peace and quiet in a lovely part of the lakes away from the crowds."
Special thanks to the hosts for providing extensive “what to do” details which we used for walks and places to see.
-
"Lovely setting."
Compact but well designed cottage. Met our needs as a couple with a small dog. Ideal as a base for exploring and walking in the Southern Lakes. Basic kitchen equipment provided- a bit limiting if you want to cook from scratch. More comfortable seating would be welcomed.
-
"What a lovely cottage this is, compact but clean and modern in a beautiful setting."
We thoroughly enjoyed our week spent here and having our own little courtyard was a bonus. Straight out of the door and onto some amazing walks is definitely a selling point when you have a dog. Will certainly be back again, loved it.
-
"We really enjoyed our stay."
It is a cosy compact cottage..excellent for dog owners with its own little courtyard and a wooded area at the back, with a walk also from the farm on to Haverthwaite heights. The only downside are the 2 uncomfortable chairs which were not suitable After a day out in the lakes
-
"Perfect break in great setting"
-
"We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful cozy cottage, realised due to size 2 days stay was enough due to no lounge."
Had 2 lovely walks to Newby Bridge and Bouth, weather was perfect for walking Would definitely return for a short stay
-
"We absolutely loved our stay at the Suite."
It is small so probably best for shorter breaks - for us it was perfect for a few days away. The facilities are good and everything was perfectly clean. The setting is really idyllic - in a quiet part of the southern lakes but still beautiful and only a 20 minute drive from some big walks and busier towns. The private woodland area and dog pen were an added bonus!
-

-
"Beautiful cottage & lovely location."
Had a good few days & we were sorry to have to cut our visit short.
-
"Cottage is in a lovely peaceful location ideal for walking and was well equipped - however as per a previous review, the chairs in the lounge were extremely uncomfortable for sitting for more than 10 mins and not ideal if you have been out all day walking."
-

The suite is perfect-the absolute biggest selling point is that it has its own courtyard where your dog can roam without escape

"It was slightly smaller than I expected, and probably more suited to one person than two."
It served my purpose very well, but I was sleeping and eating then out all day. If I had spent more time at the place, I suspect the lack of space could have become more of an issue. If what you need is a good bed, a kitchen and a shower, in a decent location away from the crowds with good access to the southern lakes, then this is a great place.
-
"Lovely cottage, quiet and just what we required."
Would definitely return. Thank you.

"The property is tiny with very limited space in the dining kitchen, ..."
The property is tiny with very limited space in the dining kitchen, uncomfortable chairs and a bathroom that you can barely turn round in to dry yourself
-
"Absolutely brilliant facilities, everything we needed and more."
The location was excellent and shops were only 10 mins away! The private courtyard for our dogs was a massive plus, it was completely secure for our two small dogs and made our stay care free! Thankyou very much, Lily and Chloe
-

Courtyard great for the dog. Had a lovely stay. We will be back
-
"Lovely cottage, very high spec."
Perfect for two and two dogs - enclosed courtyard is a selling point!
-
"A second room for our party of six we found the suite just as good as mews 1."
We have used Mews 1, Mews 2 and the suite now in the last 2 years and would recommend all 3 to anyone for a dog walking holiday.
-

About the location
LAKESIDE
Newby Bridge 1.2 miles; Bowness-on-Windermere 8.7 miles.
Set on the southern shores of Lake Windermere, the small, sleepy hamlet of Lakeside offers a peaceful getaway location, hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the Lake District’s popular attractions, but still within easy reach of them. Whether you decide to discover the area in the car, by foot, bike, boat or steam, there’s plenty to see nearby to keep the whole family content. The ferry dock offers the chance to travel by boat to Waterhead or Bowness, or take a shorter trip to the National Trust’s Fell Foot Park, across the water, which offers pretty grounds set alongside the very tip of the lake, providing plenty of places for picnics, paddling, games and gentle strolls on sunny afternoons. Situated alongside the Lakeside Station is the long-standing Lakeside and Haverwaithe Railway, home to Britain’s oldest standard gauge steam engine, on which you can travel back in time along this well-loved Heritage line, and where little ones will delight in meeting Thomas and his friends. Visit the Lakes Aquarium to uncover the often-secretive world of life below water, where you’ll chance upon hundreds of captivating creatures that feature in the surrounding rivers, lakes and sea. There are wonderful, well-signed walks to be enjoyed in the immediate area, including the 5-mile route to Finsthwaite’s High Dam, which trails from Lakeside through pleasant woodlands and meadows. Lakeside offers an exclusive holiday location with all of the Lake District’s delights at your fingertips.
