Description
This well-presented bungalow is positioned in a peaceful part of Ambleside, just five minutes from the village amenities, in a desirable location from which to explore the Lake District National Park.
Offering guests a homely interior to enjoy when you’re not out exploring the wonders of the park and beyond, this property makes for a superb base for families and friends looking for a fun-filled escape to Cumbria, with the attractions of Lake Windermere just a scenic walk away.
Spend evenings unwinding beside the electric fire while you wait for your dinner to cook in the amply equipped kitchen, home to an electric oven and gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and even a washer/dryer, it has everything you could need for a short break.
Gather around the dining table for an evening of family board games before heading off to one of the two bedrooms to catch some sleep; there is a master double bedroom with plenty of storage and a twin bedroom which is ideal for children, serviced by a fully tiled bathroom with bath and shower over.
Enjoy some fresh air at the rear patio, where table and chairs offer a spot for admiring views of Wansfell, whilst enjoying a spot of alfresco dining.
Get to know your surroundings by taking a walk into Ambleside where you will find yourself spoilt with an array of boutique shops, bars, pubs, restaurants and an independent cinema, perfect for a rainy day.
Venture a little further on to reach Waterhead where you can hire a boat, enjoy a selection of lake cruises or just sit and admire the scenery with a picnic.
The National Park Visitor Centre at Brockhole is not far is ideal for a day out, offering well-maintained grounds and footpaths that you can explore before stopping off for something to eat at the seasonal teashop.
For the more active members of the group, climb the mountain peaks of Claife Heights, go mountain biking at Grizedale Forest or test yourself at flyboarding or paddleboarding on Lake Windermere.

My partner and I had a lovely week at Greenways.
The weather was a bit mixed so it was nice when out in the rain to think that we had such a cosy and warm cottage to go back too.Everything in the cottage was well thought out even down to the small hand torches for using on the lane outside.The cottage is situated just a short walk into Ambleside.Everything well maintained inside and out.Plenty of parking space and very quiet.Will be booking again. It’s a lovely bungalow in a great position. The property is well equipped and comfortable and there are many walks directly from the front door.

This was our second stay at Greenways.
The property is perfect, extremely clean and well equipped. We wouldn't stay anywhere else when visiting the lake district now. As well as being such a lovely property, it's location in Ambleside is ideal as you can walk to the shops, restaurants etc in five minutes. You can also leave your car parked at the property and do walks. We're already looking at dates for a return visit next year!

We have stayed at Greenways several times and it is a lovely bungalow and is in a fantastic location.
The property is very clean and the owner has provided everything you need. However, for us, this time we felt the sofas were not comfortable. They offer no support and are very soft. The same also applies to the mattress in the main bedroom, very soft and no support. We were also disappointed that the TV has been replaced and is not a Smart TV, like a lot of people we prefer to catch up later on TV programmes.
It was good to meet up with you on your arrival - it's always good to put faces to names. We are naturally concerned that Greenways did not come up to your expectations but are a bit puzzled that, after all your previous stays, the mattress AND the sofas are suddenly not comfortable - nothing has changed. We will turn the mattress this weekend and we have ordered some backing boards to fit under the sofa cushions so hopefully that will alleviate the problem. Apologies for the TV but we were left in the lurch by previous guests who left it not working when they left without informing us. We only noticed on Saturday afternoon when we were cleaning and had to resort to deploying our backup which, as you say, is not smart. We have now sourced a replacement (smart) TV which will be installed this Saturday. On a more positive note, thank you again for leaving Greenways so clean and tidy - much appreciated! We had a great week at Greenways.
The accommodation was perfect and the owner very helpful. Spotlessly clean and in a great location. We didn't use our car all week as there were so many beautiful walks to do and places to visit around Ambleside. The town is only a couple of minutes walk. We would definitely stay at Greenways again.

We had a wonderful week’s stay in Greenways with our dog.
It’s a lovely cottage set on a slight incline and only five minutes’ walk to the centre of Ambleside, so the location is excellent for pubs and shops. A bonus too is the private parking space. It’s spacious, well-equipped, clean and comfy. The ample outside space was enclosed and private so we could enjoy sitting out in the sunshine. We didn’t use the car all week as we walked with our dog to Grasmere, Bowness on Windermere and Elterwater, then taking a bus back to Ambleside. We loved it and would like to stay here again.

We were very happy with the accommodation our wee dog also secure garden and plenty seating areas round the garden the cottage was very comfortable everything was thought of to make you feel welcome would be very happy to recommend Greenways to anybody only a short walk to town centre and everything the lakes have to offer

A well equipped bungalow in an ideal location.
Extremely clean and tidy. Perfect for the two of us and our little pooch who especially enjoyed the complimentary treat. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Arriving at the Greenways was straightforward.
The property is situated up a slight incline. However the location is ideal and just a five minute walk into the centre of Ambleside. The Greenways is very well equipped. The owners have thought of all eventualties. Self catering you need a well equipped kitchen and The Greenways certainly delivers. The outside area is a lovely sun trap and quite sheltered. We took our small dog and with the enclosed garden it was safe to have a wander around. It is so quiet and peaceful so was ideal for a relaxing getaway.

Lovely cottage, great location, all facilities were of an excellent standard.
Front and back patios were very nice especially as the weather was good. Would highly recommend if you were wanting to stay in Ambleside. We never used the cars all week as did walks from Ambleside.

This was our third stay at Greenways, and it is a fantastic property.
It is fully equipped with everything you will need for a comfortable and relaxing break. It is perfectly located and has ample off road parking. The seated garden spaces provide a real sun trap if you’re lucky enough to get some sunshine, as we did over the last week. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Greenways.

We had such a wonderful stay.
The cottage was so cosy, warm, and exceptionally well equipped with everything we needed. It felt like one of the best kitted-out places we’ve stayed in! One of the highlights was the location. It’s really close to town, but so lovely and quiet, and just a short walk to the many pubs and restaurants. We also really appreciated how dog-friendly everything is in Ambleside. We’d absolutely love to stay again.

Have stay in many cottages over the years in Ambleside, Grrenways is definitely the best, absolutely spotless, we had everything we needed.
It felt like home from home. It was very peaceful, and we had some lovely warm weather for March. We love Greenways so much we have already booked to come again in September with Eddie the pug who didn't want to leave. Gill March 26

We have stayed at various properties in Ambleside but have always been disappointed - not this time.
As soon as we entered the property we were impressed by the cleanliness and quality of the furnishings etc. The kitchen was so well equipped, even with lots of cleaning products that I didn't need to use any of mine (most properties don't have any, so I always take some). Unfortunately it wasn't sunny enough to sit in the garden, but sitting in the living room, you can watch all the birds flying around the trees and bushes just outside. The property is in a peaceful location but only a few minutes walk down to the shops etc. There are walks to do from the property so you can have car free days out. We definitely recommend Greenways and next time we return to the lake district, we'll be booking this property. Thank you for providing such a comfortable, cosy holiday property.

Bungalow was home from home.
Furnished with good quality furniture and soft furnishings. Very well equipped kitchen and spacious. Very clean and perfect location. Many walks can be done from the door. Garden front and back so if lucky to get the sun, like we did, you can catch it in the garden all day. Will definitely be booking again.

We had a lovely stay at Greenways, was a delight to come back to after a long day walking.
Not having to drive all week was great, everything from your doorstep. We would recommend a walk or bus to Grassmere, buses every 15 mins absolutely beautiful, the lake has lots of private areas with benches, great for people who love openwater swimming. Rydal Lake and caves a good day out, Ambleside has a large lovely park Rothay, 15 min walk for our fur babies to have a run and great for families, play, picnics and ice cream

Our stay at Greenways was brilliant.
The property itself was amazingly clean and well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. With 2 different areas to sit out (front and rear) you could sit in the sun all day if you wanted to, It was like home from home to us and would definitely stay here again

Lovely cottage in a great location, clean and well maintained.
It suited us perfectly. The hill on Gale Rigg is steep but not a problem for any of our party. The location is quiet, yet very close to Ambleside shops and attractions. There is something for everyone in Ambleside and so do hope to book again next year.

A very clean and well equipped property.
Very convenient for Ambleside and good parking. Lovely garden, I had my eye on a lovely hosta and managed to buy one! One of the reasons we booked this property was it has a bath but the bathroom and bath are very small. You can't lie down properly in the bath, it's too short and shallow. The overhead shower is good but I am a bath person! We had amazing weather for the Lakes and the duvets were much too hot unfortunately. A very quiet neighbourhood. One observation, think this is the only property we have stayed in in the Lakes, and we've stayed in a few, that didn't have a welcome pack, ie biscuits, bottle of wine or the like.

We're sorry that the bath wasn't to your liking - it is a pretty much standard sized bath and nobody else has complained about it in our 8 years of operating. We lived in Greenways for a year and I never found the size of the bath to be an issue and I'm 6' 1" ! Apologies for the duvets, we've now replaced them with lower TOG ones. We will investigate welcome packs but we provide most of the items in the standard Lakelovers pack anyway. Regards Phil and Judy

The property is perfect for a break in Ambleside. It is spotless and has everything and more that you need to enjoy your stay. We had a full week of constant sunshine and we made great use of the garden patio areas, which are real sun traps. Parking is excellent with plenty of room for two cars. We visited Greenways many years ago so it was nice to return, lots of happy memories!
! The property is immaculate, very clean , cosy and comfortable with lovely views of Wansfell and Todd Crag. With the added bonus of the lovely weather this week we managed many high level walks but it was so nice to return to Greenways later to relax and enjoy the warm sunshine on both the sheltered patios. It was so peaceful and quiet and lovely just to hear the birdsong. Just a few minutes in to the centre of the village it is ideally situated. We would love to return. Thank you.

Only a five minute walk into Ambleside yet Greenways is so peaceful. We couldn’t fault the cottage at all. It was very well equipped ,spotlessly clean and very comfortable.So much attention to detail. Unfortunately we lost our dog in June so he didn’t get to enjoy it but I am sure he would have. It’s one of the best we’ve stayed in. We can’t wait to come back.

The bungalow is very comfortable and clean and has everything you need.
It is in a lovely quiet location, has great parking and is only a very short walk from the shops in Ambleside. We had a wonderful holiday and are looking forward to returning in May 2025.

Greenways is a lovely cottage in a beautiful location.
It has everything that you need to enjoy a fantastic break in Ambleside. The cottage was perfect. It is fully stocked and extremely comfortable. It has two outdoor seating areas, and both are real sun traps (if you’re lucky enough to get some sun). Easy parking on the drive in front of the cottage and a short stroll into town. We hope to book again next year.

We had another lovely stay at Greenways.
It is definitely home from home. It is very clean and well equipped. Location is very good and central. The garden is lovely with 2 seating areas but the garden isn't fully secure for our little dog as she jumped over the wall into the next garden. This would not put us off as we kept her on a long lead after that. We will definitely be back. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Greenaway was a lovely place to stay.
Everything was very clean and we loved the views from the kitchen and lounge . The garden was great for our dog and there are lots of good walks from the cottage so no need to use the car everyday. It was also very handy for the shops and cafe's just down the road. Would love to stay here again sometime.

Lovely cosy bungalow in a great location.
A 5 minute down hill walk to the village. The house is very clean and comfortable. The kitchen has everything that you would need. We had taken my 97 year old mother with us who enjoyed her break. Due to the steep hill up to the bungalow we had to use the car to get her up and down to the village which was a bit of a pain. I would not recommnend this location to elderly or infirm due to the incline getting back up to cottage. For us it was great.

The cottage was immaculately clean, and very well equipped.
We really appreciated the comprehensive information about the bins and heating system, something we've struggled with in other cottages. The bed was very comfortable with the mattress topper on, and the towels were really good quality. The location was also very good, quiet but very close to the town centre. We noticed that BBC1 did not come up on the tv so we had to access it via iPlayer - possibly the channel needs retuning?

We enjoyed a wonderful stay at Greenways.
The location was superb with just a 5-10 minute walk into Ambleside and a 15 minute walk to Waterhead, making it very easy to explore the local area by foot. The house itself was immaculate, very well equipped and comfortable, with plenty of storage space and two lovely patio areas outside. Highly recommended for an active but relaxing family break.

We found a Greenways the bungalow very good excellent facilities would not hesitate to recommend only five minutes to the village however due to the a couple of very steep roads it is not ideal for people of a certain age or any medical issues is actually cost ourselves 70 pound in taxis to get back from the town I am so much surprised this hasn't been mentioned before however the bungalow was beautiful and the scenery from all windows was beautiful
We are so sorry to hear of your problems with Gale Rigg. Nobody has mentioned this as a problem before but we take on board what you say. Although we wouldn’t describe Gale Rigg as “very steep”, we accept that the slope upwards to Greenways could be an issue to someone with health problems. We will liaise with Heart of the Lakes to mention the slope in their property description for Greenways - thank you for bringing this to our attention and thank you for the positive content of the rest of your feedback, much appreciated. Our stay at Greenway's was a very enjoyable experience.
As well as the delightful weather and breath-taking views the cottage was comfortable and immaculate. We highly recommend Greenways to anyone seeking a holiday in the beautiful Ambleside and look forward to returning.
Lovely property only 5 mins walk from Ambleside.
Comfortable property, kitchen well equipped. Clean and uncluttered. Seating area front and back. Only one minor maintenance issue, the shrubs / bramble running along side the path from the front to the back garden needs trimming back.

One of the best properties we have stayed in.
Comfortable, very well equipped. Lovely secure garden. Only very slight negative, water a little cool for our liking and a mop would be good to clean up on wet days etc.

Lovely place to stay.
Very peaceful area and lovely views. The shower was a bit cool for us it really could do with a temperature increase especially after a cold walk! Otherwise a great place to stay and we would like to stay there again
Hi, sorry you weren't pleased with the shower. The more you push the lever over, the faster the flow and so the temperature decreases. Turn the lever back a smidge and the water will be hotter! We hope to see you back at Greenways in future.

This house is in a very quiet and beautiful situation with lovely views of Wansfell from the lounge and kitchen windows, and only 5 or so minutes walk into the high street.
The property was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. All kitchen appliances good. Plenty storage space in bedrooms. Ample parking at front of property. Also useful information on activities and eating establishments locally.
Property was very clean, comfortable and provided an excellent location for easy access to Ambleside town centre.

The property is in a really quiet location yet minutes from the centre of Ambleside.
The views from the sitting room of the fells are beautiful. The cottage is very well presented and equipped; the owners have thought of everything to make our stay comfortable.
Second time we stayed at this cottage.

Very clean and bed comfortable. Great location, short walk into town and nice views of Wansfell. Useful folder of guest information provided by the owners complete with short restaurant reviews and takeaway menus
Excellent Cottage and in a ideal location, only 2/3 minutes from town centre, very clean and cosy and the back yard is a sun trap to sun worshippers, found only 1 minor fault, the toaster will only take 2 pieces of bread, would definitely stay again.

It was very well equipped and so convenient for waking in to Ambleside. The set of yellow walks were great we did three of them. Would definitely return.
A lovely bungalow in a peaceful location, yet close enough to the town to be accessible on foot.
Good views of Wansfell from the kitchen. The interior layout is excellent, especially the lounge and kitchen area. Overall a very good base for walking or sightseeing. Plenty of parking space for 2 cars if required.

Greenways is situated in a lovely quiet part of Ambleside very close to the centre .
It was well equipped with everything you need for your stay. The view from the living room is beautiful. The front and back gardens are well maintained. We had glorious weather so sat out a few times. We will definitely be back.

There were lots of thoughtful touches included and we were very comfortable there. It was a good base for Ambleside and for exploring other areas.

The cottage (Greenways) was immaculate and very well equipped/furnished.
Its location was lovely and quiet, but very close to the amenities of Ambleside and within walking distance of Waterhead on lake Windermere.
