In terms of maintenance a striped line might be a good idea from the lift to the apartments on the step down. Step notice is very small on the door. Parking was a bit of a nightmare especially as space for No 20 is next door to flower bed and with work going on opposite nearly impossible to park.

However, the mould was a problem. The first thing we had to do was clean a large amount of black mould in the bedroom. From the staining we can see there's a mould problem in the living room and bedroom so in winter fresh mould should be cleaned prior to guests' arrival.

Thank you for letting us know you thought the apartment was lovely and for scoring us so highly. We are very sorry to hear about the mould issue. • "The property was a brilliant base for our holiday."

We were impressed with how much was provided, we've stayed in self catering accommodation before that isn't set up for anyone to actually cook in it but the range of kitchen utensils and crockery were impressive. The apartment was comfortable and clean and a great location for our stay. We did wonder about the swimming pool which is on site in the building but not mentioned in any of the information? We had no issues with the parking space and were grateful for this as it meant we could leave the car and wander into Ambleside for the day. It would have been helpful to know the rules about no bikes in the building before we arrived as we did have bikes with us and ended up having to leave them in the car as we hadn't brought a bike lock to use the storage.

Many thanks you for your kind comments. We'll ask Lakelovers to notify guests prior to arrival re bike storage arrangements. The swimming pool is privately owned and belongs to the next door complex so it is not available for guests. Property Owner Property Owner

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would look to book again in the future. The only issue, which has been mentioned by others, was a faint smell of damp/mould in the bedroom and hall. Despite keeping the en-suite door closed and using the fan booster, the carpet also felt slightly moist. This may have been exacerbated by the rainy weather during our visit

  • "The apartment was really conveniently situated for Ambleside and the local area."

It is beautifully furnished and a comfortable place to stay. Having two bathrooms was real luxury. However, the parking space is pretty tight, aggravated by the building work currently taking place opposite it. Vans and lorries are constantly in the way during the week and they made it even harder to park in a small space. The apartment could do with a fresh lick of paint in the bedroom where there are two distinct shades of white. It looks like damp patches might have been painted over at some point in the past. Whilst the apartment was fine, there was a very odd smell in the corridor outside and evidence of some sort of leak as a wall had been newly plastered over, but not painted, and the carpet was stained. These are minor points and overall we enjoyed our stay. The small patio outside was lovely in the sunshine, and we thoroughly enjoyed the ability to just stroll into Ambleside or Waterhead.

We are pleased you enjoyed your stay and found the apartment well situated and comfortable. The Managing Agents are responsible for the communal areas of the building such as the corridor and the points raised by you have either been attended to or are in hand. Property Owner Property Owner

Pros: The kitchen has everything you could need, nothing seems to be missing. The bedroom and the living room have large windows with lots of light and nice view of the hills. This is main reason I chose this place, it would be delightful to sit in the garden in the nice summer days. No noise from the street. It is 5 minutes of walk to the city of Ambleside (a very short steep path on the way back). There is a large Tesco, bakery, Mexican food take away place in the walking distance. You can walk in 15 minutes to the lake, there is a park with Roman ruins. The mattress is high quality and comfortable. It was completely clean when we arrived (maybe some minor dust). Cons: The parking is only appropriate for a small car and there was one day a large SUV had parked behind our car and it was difficult to get out of the parking lot.

Thank you very much for your positive comments. Ambleside is notoriously short of parking and many properties cannot offer it at all. We are sorry you experienced difficulty on this occasion. Property Owner

  • "Lovely apartment, very spacious and an excellent view extending towards high peak and Loughrigg."

The view is slightly diminished by the overgrown hedgerow opposite the living room windows. The finish of the apartment is excellent with two newly refurbished bathrooms, a large and comfortable bed and smart living area. The pillows were too soft, but this is more our preference. The apartment has a spacious terrace which was a welcome addition on a sunny afternoon, post a long walk! The patio furniture has seen slightly better days and could benefit from replacement. The kitchen is spacious but lacks some essentials that we would expect to find in a holiday let, particularly one pitching at the upper end. For example, there is no washing machine, despite there being a clothes airer! This would be very helpful to those who are on longer stays in order to wash walking attire. There was also no cafetière and a lack of usable oven trays. The position is superb and a short walk down a very steep hill takes you to the centre of Ambleside and many restaurants and shops. Whilst there is an allocated parking space, it is incredibly tight and if others don’t park in their space, you can be left without anywhere to park. This happened to us and another owner was less than helpful in trying to resolve the issue. This was disappointing. Overall, a lovely place to stay in a brilliant location to enable good exploration of all the lakes have to offer.

  • "Sykes - Our experience with Sykes wasn't great."

We tried to call them before our holiday to ask about the property and COVID arrangement and was unable to get through to them and no ability to leave a message. I did receive a voicemail, but on ringing back was again not to connect or leave a message. On arrival, the towels in the property had a bad smell. We were again unable to reach anyone at Sykes, or on the number for the caretaker (appeared to divert to the same number for Sykes). After trying multiple ways, we were only able to contact them via the app. The towels were replaced the next day. The Property - First to good things, this property is in a great location. A short walk down a very steep hill and you are right in the centre of Ambleside. Great views over the hills, in a quiet part of the town. Can't fault the location. However, a number of areas with the property itself could make it much better. Firstly the parking. The car park is in a busy cul-de-sac and the car park spaces are very narrow. We don't have a large car and are used to tight parking, but on more than one occasion we could not park without blocking ourselves or other cars. Parking a large car would be problematic and challenging for those uncomfortable with parking. The other main problem was the kitchen equipment, it is very basic and limited. For example, only 2 bowls, one water glass, few pans, very blunt knives & equipment. Photos show a cafetière, which was not there. Given most options for food are still closed due to COVID restrictions, we ate in most nights - the facilities really did not help this. Additionally, we were accessing the property via the patio doors due to the main access closed due to COVID. It would have been nice to provide some additional mats for muddy boots, wet umbrellas etc. Also there is no washing machine, unusual for a self-catering property. This was not on the listing we discovered, but unusual not to have one. Overall, we expected better. Great we were able to go, but more effort could have been made to accommodate for the COVID situation we are still in and better communication from Sykes.

Thank you for your feedback, we are thrilled that you were pleased with the location and surroundings. We are very sorry to hear your comments regarding the lack of cutlery and crockery at the property, these have been reduced due to Covid but we apologise that you did not find the amount left sufficient. With regards to the property not having a washing machine, this is stated on the website as you mention but we are taking this feedback on board and will look into adding this to the property. We really appreciate your comments and we hope that these issues do not deter you from staying with us again. Best wishes. Property Owner

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
